I'll be disappointed if schemin' Arab-Americans turn out to be the center of all evil.  It's awfully passe and an easy stereotype.  Of course, we'll be at surly Canadian fascists for villains by the time we get through all 24 hours.

Not for p.c. Hollywood. They usually rely on the right-wing militia groups.

...

24 is HARDLY PC. I'm recalling the first season's opener that featured an airline disaster just weeks after 9/11. And even when they could have easily used that stereotype in Season 1 (trying to kill a Black Presidential character) they didn't. they went with something far more interesting and satisfying.

One thing that kind of annoys me is that the writer's don't plan ahead that much. They write on the fly and don't really know where the season is going ahead of time.

One of the reasons why season 3 was so damn jumpy.

P.C. in the sense the bad guys never turn out to be who they are in real life.

For the record, the airplane explosion had already been filmed, the episode already put together before 9-11 happened...as it is, the show was delayed as a result and there were no more comments about the explosion in the rest of the season (save for a few quick lines about it).

And I fail to see the issue here with Muslims being involved with a fictional television show's attempt to be a touch more realistic. There's only so many times that they could turn to Europe to find their main villain (Drazen, Man on Boat, Amador/Saunders).

No, but that's not PC so much as good writing. If it was the Arabic dude with the perfect hair and mean eyes everyone would see it a mile away. I also don't think portraying an outwardly normal Arabic family as members of a terrorist cell is a very "PC" move.

I think we'll have less of a problem with that this season (even though I, for the most part, enjoyed season three's hell-on-wheels pace) thanks to the late start date. From what I understand the show is significantly further along in production at this point than usual.

I had a little problem with some of Chloe's dialogue. She's talking with Jack on the phone, trying to stay inconspicuous, but she'll say his name once or twice during most conversations.

Otherwise, I really like the season so far. Raw's in the way, and I actually watch it every week, but I've got a satellite and a bunch of Canadian channels, so I should be able to tape every episode, as I've done so far for the series.

I think it would be a problem if it were anyone besides Chloe. She lacks tact and has lapses of common sense, so her using Jack's name does sound like something Chloe would do.

Heller's daughter will be working with the terrorists. Sell out your father and frame up your brother, she's eviiiil.

Jack hasn't suffered enough, so now one of the women he loves will be killed by his own hand.

It's not really an "issue" so much as it's lame and predictable and boring. Especially for a show so ripe with unpredictable twists like 24... and the villians are arab terrorists? Talk about a serious lack of imagination.

The stuff with Jack and his kooky attempts to keep tabs on the guy is about fifty times more interesting than the immediate plot.

I said this about ten minutes into the premiere.

She and Old Man Heller will be about to escape, when BAM, she shoots him in the back of the head.

It has to happen that way because there's no way Jack can have the hots for a THIRD weak woman. They've already had Teri and Kate, two of the least liked characters in the show's history (and least liked for the wrong reason).

You should see the other three seasons. You won't need to watch them to understand this season, but you should watch them nonetheless just because it's a great show.

...what kind of library has full seasons of 24 in stock? Shouldn't they have, you know, books?

My local library system carries a very well stocked DVD selection, including full season tv box sets.

That's what mine has...they have a shite load of TV box sets (Sopranos, 24, Buffy, Angel, Simpsons, South Park, much more). You get a 7 day loan for the TV stuff (the sets are loaned by disc, not set). :headbang:

RE: Evildoers not represented as they are in real life

Aren't 90% of the world's problems caused by rich white men anyway?

Wow, this is actually my favorite episode of the season for some reason.

Ahh, I can't think of the guy's name, Chris or whatever. Well it's the black guy who is second in the command. Yeah, he sucks. Bad actor. Boo.
