This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

My quick analysis of the possible 4-way...

T-Wolves get Eddie Jones and Donyell Marshall- T-Wolves end up looking best of all 3 and have the surest things. Jones needs to find his stroke though and Marshall will have trouble finding minutes behind KG, Eddie Griffin, and Wally.

Heat gets Latrell Sprewell-this COULD be the best pick up, but who knows what kind of mind frame Spree is in. If he gets his shit back together and quits sulking, this is good for Miami. If the Heat get Spree in his current mood, this jeopardizes a deep playoff run IMO.

Knicks get Jalen Rose-Washout. Rose will bring more scoring than Penny, but he provides zero defense. The guy can't keep a closed door in front of him. Knicks will still be the same sub .500 team.

Raptors get Penny Hardaway- only thing I figure is this is a cap move that will eventually end up with Bosh getting a huge extention in a year or two. If he works on his game, Bosh can become a serious superstar in this league IMO.

Well the Knicks make out, rock n' roll!

but seriously, it looks like a pretty good deal for everyone, especially Minnesota since Marshall should be a great fit with KG, and Eddie Jones will play harder than Spree has.

I've got a feeling it won't happen though, none of these rumoured NBA deals ever go down.

Odom's average stats playing with Kobe are quite sub-par considering how talented he is. 14-10-2.7 going into tonights game, which is a major disapointment considering how talented he is. He should be averaging at least 4 assists a game, but because of Kobe's over-dominance of the ball Odom's dynamic game has been reduced to a one dimensional one. Kobe has done nothing for Lamar Odom.

EDIT* it should be a Jordan/Pippen dynamic, but Kobe manages to stifle Odom's all-around game and makes him basically an offense rebounder, as much as Odom praises Kobe when the cameras are on.

It could also be argued that Odom doesn't take shots quickly enough at times, and he's needed near the basket more often than not which leads to his 49% shooting percentage, since the Lakers lack a solid big man in the middle (Mihm is still in development and Vlade is a broken down Yugo) to crash the boards when needed. When Kobe goes down, Butler steps up in his place, and while he doesn't make the shots Kobe can make, he distributes the ball a bit more so it really comes out evenly in the end. Lakers still haven't won 3 games in a row all season, only team with a winning record to not have done that yet, but like I've been saying, they need to let the team gel together, people still haven't figured out the chemistry takes a bit of time to develop, it seems.

Odom hasn't ALWAYS been hot, either. And for some reason, starting with the Heat game, they've become 3 point happy which can lead to great nights (like against the T-Wolves) and horrible nights (like against the Nuggets)

Pretty bad, it seems.

"It hurts a lot," Bryant said. "It is the worst (injury) I have ever had. I am in a lot of pain right now. When I went down, I felt crunching and instant throbbing. I'm just trying to stay off it right now."

LA Lakers:

@ DEN

vs CLE

@ GS

vs UTA

vs MIN

vs GS

vs SEA

@ LAC

vs NJ

vs CHA

From my post earlier in the thread. They split the first two games 1-1, but the rest look easy minus Seattle and a resurging Utah team and Minny can play hard if they want to.

This has blessing in disguise written all over it, as long as Kobe isn't out for a couple months or something. Lamar Odom hasn't looked comfortable at all playing with Kobe, the way he balled last night is the way he did every game for Miami last year, and now he gets to step up and assert himself, hopefully drilling into Kobe's head the fact that, hey, Lamar's a damn good player and there's no shame in taking a backseat to him at times. That's why I keep mentioning Jordan/Pippen, because Jordan understood that in order for Pippen to play to his potential he had to let him take control at times, and Kobe doesn't seem to understand that, and if he does he doesn't show it.

David Aldridge reported on TNT that a possible 4 way trade is in the works...

T-Wolves get Eddie Jones and Donyell Marshall

Heat gets Latrell Sprewell

Knicks get Jalen Rose

Raptors get Penny Hardaway

Supposedly, it will happen. We'll see...

The Raps trading Marshall and Rose for Penny Hardaway? Thats a friggin horrible idea. If this goes through, Rob Babcock better have something bigger in the works.

The word is that the trade is dead and Miami are saying there never was a deal in the first place.

He doesn't make the impact that he should, he basically plays like a poor man's Rik Smits

That's the EXACT topic someone made at another sporting board.. man, that's ironic.

What board? I want to read it :P

Here

You have to register first, though.

Stoudamire and Van Exel combine for 77 points, while the starting front court combines for 10. Figures, when they had Randolph, Abdur-Rahim and Miles their guards were awful, and as soon as they get good Portland are stuck starting Ruben Patterson, James Thomas (who?) and Joel Przybilla.

I guess the Blazers banning Popcorn was a good move if Stoudamire and Van Exel are going to play like that.

And all of a sudden the Hornets have won 3 out of 4, playoffs here they come!

Early reports on Kobe is that he'll be out at least 5 games. Kobe REALLY needs to learn to just stay away from the media:

When asked Friday if it could be on the short end -- like two weeks -- he replied: "I hope so. But I've got to tell you, this is the worst ankle sprain I've had, pain-wise. I can't even move my foot. I have a high threshold for pain. I kind of enjoy it sometimes. It lets you know you're still living, but this one right here I don't like too much.

For some reason that made me crack up. Kobe's a fuckin' freak, man. I'm looking forward to see how Butler will step up, since he's been the odd man out with Kobe and Odom getting all the minutes. Odom has shown he can get it done, but the way the Lakers run their offense, it goes primarily through Kobe, and now it'll go through Odom instead. I'm not sure how well conditioned Odom is compared to Kobe though.

Damon Stoudamire with 54 points, and they still lost.

:P

And I had him on the bench in my fantasy squad. Fuck.

Pacers beat the Suns 101-83. Probably our biggest win of the year, though Nash left early from what I understand.

Shaq said his matchup against Amare was "the old me vs the young me."

Incredible shot by Maggette and a Great Win for the Clips. Maggette hit a turn around 20 footer with .5 seconds left in Double OT to give the Clippers a 114-112 win over the Heat. Nice to finally see the Clips hit a buzzer beater this season.

Clippers improve to 18-17 and hopefully the good play continues against the Kings in the next two games

Here is another proposed 3-way trade by Peter Vescey of NBA TV:

LA Lakers would get Kwame Brown, Jarvis Hayes, and Carlos Arroyo

Washington would get Caron Butler, Chucky Atkins, and Jarron Collins

Utah would get Devean George, and Brian Cook

I wouldn't mind Arroyo, but no way I'd want to give up Butler and Cook. Jarvis Hayes? What the fuck?

Knock it off with the trading!!

The Wolves-Nuggets rivalry continues as Olowokandi takes a cheap shot at Nene while Martin is between them, then does the "back off while aimlessly flailing your fists to appear that you're putting up a fight" bit when Nene comes back at him. Nene landed a couple haymakers on him right in the face, too.

K-Mart tripped and fell on his ass while doing his gloat job after an alley-oop, which I thought was pretty funny.

The Bulls win a GREAT game for their sixth straight. It was the Bulls' defense that won the game for them in the final two possessions. Nocioni's block and then Chandler saving the ball, which all led to Curry's lay-in is now my favourite play of the year. All in all, it was a great win for the Bulls... I know the Czech Republic must be pumped too.

Let's repeat the feat on MLK Day and we'll be in business.

It would be so cool to raid the Celtics for Paul Pierce or something. I thought that might mean giving up someone good, but then I breathed a sign of relief as I remembered that their GM is Danny Ainge.

Why would you want Paul Pierce? I could see maybe two years ago nut now?

Isn't his contract up soon? I don't see much upside to signing him. I can see him having a great season in his contract year and then becoming completely irrelevant after he gets his money. When was the last time you heard Pierce's name anyway? He used to be an All-Star, now he's just decent.

He used to be an All-Star, then the front office traded Antoine Walker and gutted the team, seemingly causing him to sulk and put up subpar numbers.

A superstar is a superstar, regardless of who's on his team. You don't just give up for a couple of years because you don't like your teammates.
