Guest TonyJaymzV1 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Okay so with the latest influx of comic book movies, i started getting more and more interested in comics again. So I goto my local comic shop, and just ask for a good tpb. I got Watchmen. So now I'm addicted again. I've just gone through and put all my comic in baggys, got a filing cabinet, bought 3 tpb(Batman:Dark Victory, Batman:The Long Halloween and Marvel 1602). I've become a regular at the comic book shop, and the manager told me that if I ever decicide to subscribe,, that I should go through the stopre because the more i subscribe,. the more i save. I've done the math and worked out i can easily do 15 comic subscriptions, and it'd be no blow to my budget and I'd be getting a hell of a deal. So here s where you guys come in:Recomend me some comis. What I Know I'm Getting: -Bullseye:Greatest Hits -Ex Machina -Daredevil -Batman(If's its still as good as the tpobs I got) What I'm thinking of getting: -Green Arrow -Flash -Ultimate Spiderman -The Walking Dead After that, I'm really at a loss of what to get. I never really liked the fantastic four, so count that out, same goes with X-Men though I do like Joss Whedon. I heard a comic called Y is good too, so may get that Thanks for anyhelp

pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Supreme Power, although I recommend you catch up first with the previous two TPBs that collect the first 12 issues. Awesome series. The Ultimates vol.1 the whole 12 issue run you can also get on two TPBs or a single Hardcover. The new Iron Man series is off to a pretty good start. Issue #2 came out recently, you should be able to find #1, too. Terrific art, also.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 You're lucky in that Marvel puts out a lot of TPBs, so you can catch up on titles pretty easily. You can also go to a big box bookstore to get them, but chances are the comic shop will match the 10% discount you'd get at the big box, so you can probably guess who I'd recommend giving your business to. Marvel: Astonishing X-Men #1-6 should be out in TPB very soon, so keep a look out for that. Also high marks for Supreme Power, grab those trades. If you're into stuff like Sliders, you should look into Exiles. If you like police procedural dramas, Madrox and District X are good choices. I've also heard good things about She-Hulk, but it's not really my thing, so I can't really say whether you should pick it up or not. DC: Geoff Johns has two books on opposite ends of the spectrum for me. GL: Rebirth is a must read, it's a very good story and even gives a brief recap of the Hal Jordan saga if you need to catch up. I tried Teen Titans when it relaunched and didn't like it. I tried it again when the did the Legion crossover and for those couple of issues, it was very good, but it's again slipped with the now-cliche "dark future" story. I don't read Flash, so I can't judge that title. Speaking of Legion, DC has gotten (once again) Mark Waid to reboot the Legion, and again it's been pretty decent. I kinda liked the post-Zero Hour names, but that's a minor gripe for me. On the TPB front, Identity Crisis should be out in a month or two, so definitely pick that up. And I think that Formerly Known As The Justice League is out in TPB form - that's a definite pickup as far as I'm concerned.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 My faves: Jinx (Earlier Bendis, one TPB) and Goldfish Noirish, not superhero. Batman: Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke and Year One. Preacher: If you are offended by ANYTHING though, you may want to steer clear. Kingdom Come Marvels ^Tremendous art, good stories. The Marvel Essentials are great if you want some older stuff. Guest SpiderFan Report post Posted January 11, 2005 For older issues: If you don't mind reading comics on your computer, there's an 11 CD collection out now that has Amazing Spider-man 1 - 500 in it, for about $40. Also, if you can find a copy, grab the TPB, Across the Universe: The DC Universe Stories of Alan Moore.

pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2005 I thought he was asking for somewhat recent comics that he could get subscriptions, or I would have recommended a ton of TPBs like Sass did. I have quite a decent collection of them, including my latest one: Jack Kirby Visionaries Hardcover, truly a magnificent collection if you're a fan of The King. Highly recommended. That's another book worth tracking down too. Marvel Knights Spiderman is somewhat readable, only because Mark Millar is alleged to have submitted a good portion of the scripts for his twelve issue run to to people running "Spiderfan.org" (one of the largest and most respected Spiderman fansites on the web) to correct any errors they might have seen in his scripts with Millar actually correcting his scritps according to their comments the people from Spiderfan.org made on them.... JasonX 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 It appears that I'm wrong about this. DC is reprinting the ENTIRE series around April, with a HC around September... To be more precise: They are reprinting all seven issues of the mini with all of them having new covers and subtitling them as "Identity Crisis: Final Printing". Renegade 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 MK spider-man is good if you ignore the fact that it heavily involves Osborne. So far it feels alot like Hush, the ride there is good until you find out who's pulling the strings. Plus Venomous was weak, I don't think anyone can deny that.
