starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Well the Pop Idol winners have done pretty well over in the British Isles, so in a sense they are looked up at. Over here, well, it's more a format than anything, I suppose.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 btw, if you're keeping track, Paula does seem more subdued...
starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Oh man, I think "Baby V" chose the wrong song... or at least the wrong way to tackle it. I thought she was too subdued to start off, but that's just me.
smh810 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Youre not the only one, Simon agrees with you, but on the other hand this needs to be said, Simon should only say positive things about Carrie, Bo and Vonzell from now on unless they bomb beyond belief. The show cant have the other three sneaking into the top 2.
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Something I was thinking about the other day; how is this "American's Idol?" I don't idol any of these singers and they don't even sell that many CDs. So how are they an American Idol? But it's not 'America's Idol'. A person doesn't have to be idolized by everyone to be an idol. So they are American Idols...for at least someone. And considering millions of people actually vote every week, 'someone' is a pretty big number. Anyways, one definition of Idol is "One that is adored, often blindly or excessively." (I'm sure people who hate the show would love to point out the second part) and most..most that is, of the people who make it to the top are 'adored'. None of them sell "zero" CDs, so they're adored by someone.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 ...and a poor choice for Constantine I think. It wasn't bad, just kinda bland.
Mole 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Well the Pop Idol winners have done pretty well over in the British Isles, so in a sense they are looked up at. Yeah, well, British Isles isn't "America" meaning the USA. So that doesn't count. Something I was thinking about the other day; how is this "American's Idol?" I don't idol any of these singers and they don't even sell that many CDs. So how are they an American Idol? But it's not 'America's Idol'. Besides, does anyone actually idolize this people? No, they just want to watch them on TV every week. Then when it comes time for their CD release, they don't come out in the bunches like every week on TV. AMERICA doesn't adore these singers, only a select few do. They aren't American Idols. OK, I'm thinking about what you're saying, and it does make sense - the winner is not an Idol to everyone in America. But I think it's more like a title, kind of like Miss America. You've won Idol, and you're the American version of it for this year.

Once again, I don't consider millions 'few'. It's not as if only a hundred people watch the show. And I can say yes, some people do idolize these people, as I know some personally. Teen/young girls are VERY impressionable.

Teen/young girls are VERY impressionable. You're the one who said a few: "None of them sell "zero" CDs, so they're adored by someone." A lot of people watch the show, but only a few idol them. So it isn't AMERICAN'S Idol, just a few peoples. My point is that the title of the show is misleading because it isn't an American Idol, just 1,000 American's Idols. Mik 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Talk about the dumbest arguement. It's just the title of the show. Do all of the other contestants on Survivor get KILLED? It's just the name, Mole. Give it a rest.
Mole 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Talk about the dumbest arguement. It's just the title of the show. Do all of the other contestants on Survivor get KILLED? It's just the name, Mole. Give it a rest. Hmm, how's this a dumb argument? Because they aren't really American's Idol? If everyone who watched the show bought their CD, then they would be American's Idol. But that isn't the case, so they aren't. And no, they don't get killed on Survivor. However, they do have to SURVIVE on the show and not get voted off. They are surving the game show. So it does fit. Sorry if I don't like a crap show which takes away good TV time. Sorry about expressing my opinion about a show which sucks and the title doesn't fit what it's really about. MooreMark 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 American Idol's as a whole aren't doing AMAZING but I don't think they'll ever reach super-fame because they'll always have the AI tag on them. Kelly is doing pretty well for herself, she's distancing herself from the show and going her own way. Ruben and Fantasia I know nothing about, which is very bad. Australian Idol's are doing awesome. I think contestants on the show hold the one and two spot of most records sold in the country. (or something like that)

Take a second to look it up and then you'll realize exactly what I said to you. Who cares if you like the show or not? Whether you do or don't, the fact that you are arguing over the title of the show is one of the most pathetic things I have ever heard in my life. And don't respond by saying, "Oh, you're just upset that I don't like your show." If you were arguing something that was actually relevant, it wouldn't matter. This is just an exercise in stupidity.
