Sass 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 It's payback time for the silver and black. That's going to be a good game to watch. I hope the Raiders can field a defense that can stop other teams this season because otherwise I could see the Pats torching the Raiders there. And the Pats still have a defense that's nothing to sneeze at. Good, it's time the Raiders get a chance for a little payback against the title thiefs. KingPK 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I thought you got that payback when the Raiders beat the Pats in Oakland in 2002?
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted March 22, 2005 HA!!! Joe Gibbs paid a visit to Courtney Brown a few days ago. Enjoy another shitty free agent pickup Washington fans.
Sass 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I'm talking *primetime* baybeee. Kick the Pats when they look like they're down. Their LB corps look sketchy as fuck for this season compared to past seasons. They still can field a tough defense though.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Wasn't it a Monday night game when they did it?
Sass 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Gibbs at least sees the biggest problem on his team, besides the QB situation, is the subpar O-line, which needs to be rebuilt or else he's going to collect another 8-8 or worse season under his belt. The Skins still have like a top 10 defense but if they can't put any points up on the board then they're screwed. Maybe Gibbs sees something in Brown this season. The guy isn't a total fool, although he did come out of a nice retirement.
Sass 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 27 - 20 was nice but I'm hoping for a blow out this time. 2001 was the year the Raiders would have won it but instead it turned out to be the Pats time instead. I hope the Raiders win every game against the Pats because a lost championship can never be replaced until another one is won.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Ouch, the Ravens matched the offer on Chester Taylor today. I'm surprised they were willing to pay a backup 2 million a year.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 22, 2005 There's a rumor going around that Jerry Azumah could be traded to the Jets. Any Bear fans, or NFC North fans know what we're getting? His statistics are very respectable. Azumah is a decent, but not a shutdown corner from what I've seen. Solid starter though, if you have other great players in the secondary to help out with defending great passing teams or superstar receivers. I'd say he could handle the Keyshawn Johnsons and Keenan McCardells of the league, but don't match him up one an one against the A-Listers like Moss, Owens, Walker, or Johnson. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 22, 2005 The term "shutdown corner" should never be used in the current day NFL -- that is all.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Not with the current rules.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Or you mean, the emphasis on the rules. I think a good solution to the rule emphasis would be to extend the 5-yard illegal contact thing to maybe 10 or 15 instead. I'm surprised more teams didn't come up with an offense revolving around drawing illegal contact in between the 5- and 10-yard lines and getting first downs off of that alone, but the rules pretty much state you could try and do that if the defense bites. Yet also interesting that the NFC and AFC Champs both also happen to have the most aggressive secondaries in the league...
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Not with the current rules. Even before the rules that term shouldn't be used (recently that is).
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I agree there hasn't been a corner that is a true shutdown corner in awhile. But the rules further make it harder.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Jerry Azumah's plenty quick, but both he and Mike Brown from Chicago's secondary are more Nickel-type defenders. They both looked tired towards the end of last season being in several downs per series. Azumah's mustard on kick returns, though.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Travis Henry: Determined to Force a Trade RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com Monday, March 21, 2005 Update: Henry does not want to play for the Bills anymore and intends to sit out as long as it takes the team to trade him, the Associated Press reports. Recommendation: "I'm definitely not going back to Buffalo if that's what you want to hear," Henry said. "No minicamps. No training camp. No nothing...I packed my stuff and left. As soon as the season was over, I was out of there and I didn't have any plans of coming back." There is not much gray area here. Despite the fact that he has one year left on his contract, Henry is not interested in being Willis McGahee's backup. Though Arizona is said to be interested in his services, the Bills don't seem to be in any rush to give Henry away, though at this point keeping him doesn't seem to be a viable option. Hell I wouldn't want to be a third-down back after being the feature back for a while, but he's nowhere near McGahee's level by all indications. But perhaps the more important news item of the day NFL-wise.. labor dispute on the horizon? NFL boss says labor talks at "dead end" March 22, 2005 KAPALUA, Hawaii (AFP) - Labor contract renewal talks between the National Football League and its players union "have exhausted themselves and are at a dead end," NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue warned. Two seasons remain under the current deal between the league and the NFL Players Association, but if the deal is not extended by the end of next year there will be no salary cap in 2007, something the league does not want. A special negotiating session will be conducted April 19, Tagliabue announced at the NFL owners meeting here. "We have to agree upon some new and different approaches to resolve the financial issues that confront all member clubs," Tagliabue said late Monday. Tagliabue hopes the NFL can avoid the labor woes of the National Hockey League, which lost its 2004-2005 season to a labor dispute, and Major League Baseball, which wipes out the 1994 World Series in a labor fight. The National Basketball Association, which endured a half-season in 1999 thanks to a labor fight, faces the upcoming expiration of its labor deal. The union wants a greater percentage of all league revenues rather than 65 percent of designated gross revenues, which excludes luxury box, parking and local television income that the union wants included in the revenue figures. Owners are divided as well. Those on high-income clubs lose only about 40 percent of revenues to salaries while some like Indianapolis and Arizona spent nearly 70 percent on salaries and want more money sharing from well-off clubs. "We've got a complicated set of new economic issues that we're trying to figure out," Tagliabue said. "It's obviously the total focus and the top priority." Many teams are absorbing the cost of building new stadiums in their financial pictures, which has created heavy borrowing and debt repayment loads. "No one will like everything that eventually is necessary to produce an extension. Many will have a price to pay on both sides of the table, and there will be unpredictable and unintended consequences," Tagliabue told owners. "A failure to come together now and agree upon solutions, both internally and with the players association, will produce alternatives that are far more negative for all clubs." The NFL also announced that reigning Super Bowl champion New England would play host to the season opener on September 8 against Oakland. I fucking hate Paul Tagliabue. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Couple more news items.. Former Steelers LB Little dies while lifting weights March 22, 2005 PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker David Little died last Thursday while lifting weights at his home in Miami. He was 46. Little suffered a heart ailment while working out and suffocated when the barbell he was lifting fell on his throat, the Steelers announced on Tuesday. Little played his entire 12-year with the Steelers before retiring in 1993. He started 125 of 179 games and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1990. Little, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame guard Larry Little, is survived by his wife and three children. Yeesh. Horrible way to die. Packers: O'Dwyer signs one-year deal by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com Tuesday, March 22, 2005 News The Packers continued their quest to fill the offensive guard positions vacated by free agents Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle on Monday by signing 10-year veteran Matt O'Dwyer. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that O'Dwyer signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum of $765,000 and a $25,000 signing bonus. O'Dwyer started 105 games for the Jets, Bengals, and Buccaneers. Views O'Dwyer spent last season with the Bucs, buy he only played in four games after tearing his pectoral muscle while training before the season. If he can stay healthy, O'Dwyer should provide a boost to the Packers' depleted offensive line. What's with the Pack and hilariously ethnic names lately? O'Dwyer should fit right in with J.T. O'Sullivan and Mike Flanagan on their nights out at the pub. Bears: Brown on the mend by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com Tuesday, March 22, 2005 News Bears' free safety Mike Brown is on the road to recovery from an Achilles' injury suffered in week two last year. "I'm running full speed." Brown said in Sunday's Chicago Daily Herald. "Backpedaling? Not quite. I'd say overall I'm about 90 percent. I'm ahead of schedule." Brown expects to be at full strength before the regular season begins. Views Brown is one of the Bears' defensive leaders and will certainly be welcomed back into the starting lineup with open arms. However, he is not an ideal fantasy player, as he does not log enough tackles or interceptions to be a premier player in leagues that award points for individual defensive players. There was also an article about some backup players resigning with the Saints, but I figured it was of little importance.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 He wants in Arizona for a player to player deal, seeing as how the Bills needed a left tackle and that's what Arizona is offering. I don't think it's worth it seeing as how much production Henry has given compared to that of a middle of the road LT. He's cheap, but it's not worth it, especially when come draft day he is most probably going to be dealt for a first round pick. Henry had really good years in Buffalo, but he's got a case of fumble-itis and has had some injuries so there is some baggage.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Rumor mill: Raiders, possibly, send Charles Woodson to the Detroit Lions for Boss Bailey and a 1st round draft pick. #10 to be exact. Oh man, Big Matt the GM is a former Raider and I hope his ties to the dark side make this trade happen. Purty pleez. That would be fantastic, considering that means the Raiders will lose little draft positioning with the Moss trade, only trading down 3 spots, and getting Boss Bailey for Napoleon Harris which sort of equals out. The Moss trade seems to have benefitted both parties immensely if this goes through. If this happens I will smack the fuck out of the Lions' front management. Oh God, what a horrid trade that would be. Aren't you a Saints fan? I'm confused.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 That's a terrible trade. Woodson is old, busted, and ridiculously expensive. And they don't even have Randy Moss in the division to worry about anymore, so Dre Bly should be fine. I didn't see a ton of Boss Bailey, but he seemed like a solid young player.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 23, 2005 That's okay though. The Lions have been a young team on the brink forever now. I don't want them breaking out this season, because that'll take Green Bay's possible wildcard spot out. They've got Jeff Garcia now with the starting QB job wide open. If Harrington so much as screws up one game this year, that should be it for him.. Garcia is more than a capable enough QB to get them places.
