I hope the Raiders can field a defense that can stop other teams this season because otherwise I could see the Pats torching the Raiders there. And the Pats still have a defense that's nothing to sneeze at. Good, it's time the Raiders get a chance for a little payback against the title thiefs. Sass 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Gibbs at least sees the biggest problem on his team, besides the QB situation, is the subpar O-line, which needs to be rebuilt or else he's going to collect another 8-8 or worse season under his belt. The Skins still have like a top 10 defense but if they can't put any points up on the board then they're screwed. Maybe Gibbs sees something in Brown this season. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 22, 2005 There's a rumor going around that Jerry Azumah could be traded to the Jets. Any Bear fans, or NFC North fans know what we're getting? His statistics are very respectable. Azumah is a decent, but not a shutdown corner from what I've seen. Solid starter though, if you have other great players in the secondary to help out with defending great passing teams or superstar receivers. I'd say he could handle the Keyshawn Johnsons and Keenan McCardells of the league, but don't match him up one an one against the A-Listers like Moss, Owens, Walker, or Johnson. I think a good solution to the rule emphasis would be to extend the 5-yard illegal contact thing to maybe 10 or 15 instead. I'm surprised more teams didn't come up with an offense revolving around drawing illegal contact in between the 5- and 10-yard lines and getting first downs off of that alone, but the rules pretty much state you could try and do that if the defense bites. NFL boss says labor talks at "dead end" March 22, 2005 KAPALUA, Hawaii (AFP) - Labor contract renewal talks between the National Football League and its players union "have exhausted themselves and are at a dead end," NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue warned. Two seasons remain under the current deal between the league and the NFL Players Association, but if the deal is not extended by the end of next year there will be no salary cap in 2007, something the league does not want. A special negotiating session will be conducted April 19, Tagliabue announced at the NFL owners meeting here. "We have to agree upon some new and different approaches to resolve the financial issues that confront all member clubs," Tagliabue said late Monday. Tagliabue hopes the NFL can avoid the labor woes of the National Hockey League, which lost its 2004-2005 season to a labor dispute, and Major League Baseball, which wipes out the 1994 World Series in a labor fight. The National Basketball Association, which endured a half-season in 1999 thanks to a labor fight, faces the upcoming expiration of its labor deal. The union wants a greater percentage of all league revenues rather than 65 percent of designated gross revenues, which excludes luxury box, parking and local television income that the union wants included in the revenue figures. Owners are divided as well. Those on high-income clubs lose only about 40 percent of revenues to salaries while some like Indianapolis and Arizona spent nearly 70 percent on salaries and want more money sharing from well-off clubs. "We've got a complicated set of new economic issues that we're trying to figure out," Tagliabue said. "It's obviously the total focus and the top priority." Many teams are absorbing the cost of building new stadiums in their financial pictures, which has created heavy borrowing and debt repayment loads. "No one will like everything that eventually is necessary to produce an extension. Many will have a price to pay on both sides of the table, and there will be unpredictable and unintended consequences," Tagliabue told owners. "A failure to come together now and agree upon solutions, both internally and with the players association, will produce alternatives that are far more negative for all clubs." He was 46. Little suffered a heart ailment while working out and suffocated when the barbell he was lifting fell on his throat, the Steelers announced on Tuesday. Little played his entire 12-year with the Steelers before retiring in 1993. He started 125 of 179 games and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1990. I don't think it's worth it seeing as how much production Henry has given compared to that of a middle of the road LT. He's cheap, but it's not worth it, especially when come draft day he is most probably going to be dealt for a first round pick. That would be fantastic, considering that means the Raiders will lose little draft positioning with the Moss trade, only trading down 3 spots, and getting Boss Bailey for Napoleon Harris which sort of equals out. The Moss trade seems to have benefitted both parties immensely if this goes through. If this happens I will smack the fuck out of the Lions' front management. And they don't even have Randy Moss in the division to worry about anymore, so Dre Bly should be fine. I didn't see a ton of Boss Bailey, but he seemed like a solid young player. I don't want them breaking out this season, because that'll take Green Bay's possible wildcard spot out. They've got Jeff Garcia now with the starting QB job wide open.
