Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Does anyone know what happened about the initial release problems? Did Fox ever ship corrected DVDs to stores? If they did, how can you tell the difference between the two? Best Buy has the box set for $19.99 I have the original release still sealed in plastic, but at that price I'd keep both. You never know, the screwed up DVD could end up becoming a collector's item.
BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 19.99 eh? Hmm, me wonders about this too, been meaning to correct my mistake of getting the FS version by mistake, blech...
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted January 23, 2005 Universal corrected the initial release problems by setting up a replacement program. They sent prepaid mailing envelopes to people who called about the problem. Once they received your defective discs (only II and III were misframed), they sent out the replacement discs. The corrected version is just now starting to hit store shelves. The corrected set is being rereleased with a lower MSRP (hence the sale price) on January 25th as part of Universal's "Outta Time" promotion (the set is going on moratorium in June). The new, corrected versions should have V2 on the barcode sticker on the back of the box. More info, including speculation of a 20th Anniversary Edition, can be found here. MDH257 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 (edited) Its Universal, not FOX. You could send the defective disc in and recieve corrected replacements. Universal said corrected box sets would be in stores when the first printing sold out. The corrected versions of the box set are supposed to have "V2" near the barcode, but The Digital Bits said they never got one report of the corrected box being spotted in stores. Universal is lowering the price because BTTF is going out of print and they're trying to get rid of their inventory. TV Shows On DVD.com 1/15/2005 Now, three years later, the 2002 trilogy box set release is heading off the market. Universal has declared an "Outa-time" promotion that urges you to hurry up and purchase the existing version "before time runs out", because "on February 1st, Universal stops selling the trilogy." The existing 3-disc set will no longer be made, and stores will be allowed to sell out their remainng stock at a new low price of $27.98 SRP, which takes effect on January 25th. This past Christmas Day (and the day after), I posted news about various plans from Universal Studios Home Video for 2005 TV-on-DVD releases. I mentioned titles like Kojak, Leave It To Beaver, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and 2nd-season sets for Las Vegas, Knight Rider, The A-Team, The Munsters, Magnum P.I., and Columbo. Well, the source of that information wasn't limited to TV-DVDs, you should know: film plans were also mentioned along the way. Special editions apparently are in the works for '05 release of classic films like The Sting, Coal Miner's Daughter, The Jerk, and others, including - yes! - Back To The Future. There was no mention, by the way, as to whether this will be a separate release of just the first movie, or if it is once again the entire trilogy packed together in one box. I'm afraid I don't know anything more than just the words "Back to the Future (special edition)", written exactly that way. So please don't write asking me for more info about this new film release...I have none! It simply looks like they want to take advantage of the 20th anniversary of the first film's release and do something special with it on DVD. There's no way to know yet if it's one film in there, or all three. ---David Lambert EDIT: Askewniverse beat me to it. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 23, 2005 I've had the DVD set for quite some time, and never had any problems with the Part II and III discs, except for when they needed a little dusting. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. If you didn't send your discs in, they're misframed. Universal is still sending replacement discs which fix the framing issues in II and III and sound distortion in Part II. I'd advise calling them and sending your discs in ASAP. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 At least they could have stopped selling the set and then announced the Super Duper Delux Ultra Mega Special Edition Set... Even though the current one $20, I'll just wait for the SE set and the fact that I wont have to worry about whether or not Im getting a fixed set or not plus it will have more stuff on it..maybe. GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Rumor has it they're taking the set off the market because: A. The updated sets with replacement discs are displacing them B. Universal plans to release a 20th anniversary edition of Back To The Future this year
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 The misframed sets are still what's mainly out in stores right now. It's not a big deal, though, since you can get the replacement discs after you buy the set.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 24, 2005 The upcoming Special Edition sounds like it's just for the original movie and has nothing to do with a trilogy box set.

I've never had a problem with them though, so I didn't think it mattered. Besides, I watch the movies maybe once a year anyway, so it's not like I handle them often. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 24, 2005 It's not a problem that may or may not happen. The problem came from the factory on every DVD. Unless by luck you have a corrected set, you do have the problem.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Hmmm... If I remember, I'll see about getting a fast replacement. I didn't even know about the problem when I got the set 2 years ago.
GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Hmmm... If I remember, I'll see about getting a fast replacement. I didn't even know about the problem when I got the set 2 years ago. Here's a page detailing what to do and what number to call: http://www.angelfire.com/film/bttf2/ Remember, this is only for the widescreen set. Basically you call the number for your country, they ask you whether or not you understand the situation and they'll take your name and address. Then in a few days you'll get a small postage-paid envelope back in the mail - put the BTTF II and BTTF III discs in the envelope and send them out. Within a few weeks you should get 2 replacement discs.

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 24, 2005 I have Widescreen. I never buy FS unless by accident, or if the movie is a cartoon or something that isn't available in WS.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I got the FS version, but that's because I couldn't find the WS anywhere, and I also heard about the mis-framing. Since I recently got the trilogy they'll come out with ultra-deluxe editions in widescreen format next month...
