Where'd Paul Orndorf go in early 1987?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering after the cage match with Hogan in January from SNME, where'd Orndorf go? I can only assume he was injured because he was back by the fall that year. I can only assume he was injured because why leave a big heel (at the time) off a major card like this. He could've wrestled George Steele or something. Anyone have any info?

I think if Andre/Hogan hadn't gone ahead then Orndorff would have filled in for Andre, he wasn't injured at the time as he was in the SNME battle royal a few weeks before WM 3.

Edit: Kamala was left off the card as well and he was coming off a feud with Hogan that did very well.

That has not ever been explained, they just didn't invite him from what I know.

Just seems weird that Orndorf wasn't even present in some form, like backstage cackling with Andre and Heenan.

What'd he do, smash up Stephanie's Barbie Dream House or something?

That was the plan if Andre wasn't able to wrestle at WM III.

I always wondered what happened to his arm. One is distinctively smaller than the other, but if I remember correctly it wasn't always like that. I'd assume it has to do with the use of steroids?!

The match would've been better that's for sure

No, not steroids. I think he had a neck injury, similar to Benoit's, but instead of getting surgery, he waited to long, hence the atrophy of his arm.

From what I know, Orndorf's arm is the result of a pinched nerve in his neck that was never properly healed, cause his left arm to atrophy (sp). Benoit touches on it in his DVD and it's one of the reasons he took neck surgury, which Paul never did hence what you see today.

Ahhh, thanks.

Orndorff refused surgery on his neck because he was making good (really good) money with his program against Hogan in 86-87. By the time Orndorff got himself fixed up (if he did, that is), the effect already done to his body permanently limited the use of his left arm.

Kurt Angle, right now, is going down the same road, except both his arms look like shit.

While we're on the subject of Orndorff, was he really injured by the Horsemen in late '95, or was he looking to retire and they wanted to do an angle to write him out of storylines?

He needed neck surgery, which I think was related to his arm injury. He wasn't looking to retire, but it pretty much turned out that way.
