The OAO WWE Royal Rumble 2005 Thread

The Royal Rumble. It begins with two men battling it out in the ring. Every 90 seconds, the melee is joined by another. Then another, and another until it’s grown into a 30-man battle. At the end, the last man standing is awarded a main event at WrestleMania and a shot at either the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship.

Pretty good for a match that was once for bragging rights only.

In its nearly 20-year history, the Royal Rumble has been one of the cornerstone events in WWE and has been responsible for some of the greatest moments in the history of the sport.

Who can forget Ric Flair’s astounding win at the 1992 Rumble? Or the controversy that ensued when Bret Hart and Lex Luger landed on the mat at the same time?

Or last year’s incredible victory by Chris Benoit, who entered the Rumble at No. 1 and lasted all the way to the end? Each year, the Royal Rumble promises — and delivers — unpredictability.

This is, undoubtedly, the best PPV since July. I'm serious.

This is the most anxious I've been for a PPV since WMX7. And it's the first PPV i've ordered since WMX7.

Anyboyd ever notice that in every Royal Rumble, they hype up the fact the person who drew number 1 has NO chance of winning, but they never say anything about the number 2 guy even though he starts at the same time as the number one guy?

Lol, yes, I've always thought that was funny as hell.

Oooo wow, he walked out to the ring first. That's a whole minute of air he's lost. Yea, sure. ;)

At the 1992 Rumble, Gorilla Monsoon made mention of the fact that no one who drew in the top 5 ever won the event.

Well that sure changed, didn't it?

Any show called 'Boom' must be good. It MUST. It's a rule.

Who can remember that Flair's record was broken the following year by Bob Backlund and that record was broken last year by Benoit?

Not the WWE.
