NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 I see no reason in hell why either part 1 or 2, or AOD needs to be remade, as each still feels special when watched, and the sfx are just fine for my liking. Add to that the movies still have the "cool" factor for the new generation of youngsters who are discovering it for the first time. It's not like the original Dawn of the Dead, where it is getting harder and harder to convince each new generation how great it is.(but that is an entire different discussion). Oh and here is the interview with Sam Raimi, or the exerpt that I pasted from www.horrorchannel.com via bloody-disgusting. http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/modules...article&sid=869 I guess "skeptical" is the best word to describe how I felt when I read this news story over on Bloody Disgusting, but perhaps "hopeful" is better? I’m not sure. In an interview about Boogeyman, which opens in theaters on Friday, both Sam Raimi and Rob Tapet confirmed that not only will there be an Evil Dead remake, done by new talent with a new script, but Evil Dead 4 is moving forward, which Raimi will direct and produce. "This is the project I really want to make." Raimi said "The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original". Something just doesn’t seem right about this, but maybe it’s just that Raimi’s been saying "no Evil Dead 4" for so long that it’s hard to believe he’s going ahead with it. And yes, Bruce Campbell will return, with Ted (Raimi) and Sam writing the script. Now, the real question is, why the hell would Sam do this when he’s got a Spider Man franchise to deal with? Maybe because he can...
I like Forums 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 I would love to see Bruce Campbell reprise the role of Ash for the Evil Dead 4. I hope this does happen.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Also, indie horror director Dante Tomaselli (Desecration,Horror, and the upcoming Satan's Playground) has mentioned interest in directing the remake Needless to say, I'd love to direct an Evil Dead project. I've been wanting to make an all-out zombie splatter film for a long time. Something hard-core and gory as hell. I like that Tapert wants to produce a film that is an "assault." I have a track record...3 features now -- and I can certainly work on low budgets. Hell, I even have Ellen (Cheryl from the original) Sandweiss in my new film, Satan's Playground. She had so many interesting stories to tell about the making of the original. I'm planning on shooting THE OCEAN next, but I'd drop everything if this opportunity presented itself. I'm a die-hard Evil Dead fan; I saw the cult classic in 1981 in theaters when I was 11.
Guest JMA Report post Posted February 5, 2005 Evil Dead 4 should be great, I wonder if Ash will go to the future this time. As for the remake, I have a feeling that even if the movie is good it won't be well received. I hope I'm wrong about that.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 I am just paranoid that if the remakes are made before Evil Dead, 4 and the remakes don't do "good" in the theaters, that the studios will balk on Evil Dead 4. I mean, the studios better expect some sort of backlash regarding the remakes since they will be made with no Bruce Campbell.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 Sam does this once a year to piss off Bruce. Sam will say, "Yes, there will be an Evil Dead 4" and Bruce will receive thousands of emails about it And then Bruce will post on his website, "There will be NO Evil Dead 4". Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 I was very against a Dawn of the Dead remake, but it ended up kicking ass, so hopefully this will be alright too. Although Evil Dead 2 is pretty much the same movie as the first, it's almost a remake.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 Although Evil Dead 2 is pretty much the same movie as the first, it's almost a remake. No, it's really not. How many times must this be clarified? Sam and Bruce even said it on the DVD commentary for Evil Dead II. The first five minutes or so of the film is a quick summary of the original because they couldn't get the rights to show the footage from it, and they didn't want people that were being introduced to the two films through the second one to be completely left in the dark. If you skip the first five minutes, it takes place over the course of three days after The Evil Dead. I'm going to be very, VERY happy if Evil Dead 4 comes out. My only question is: how is it going to be taken off from Army? They shouldn't use the alternate ending, where Ash takes too many sips of the potion that the Wizard made in Medieval times and wakes up after armageddon, as the more well-known ending is the one in S-Mart, so where do they go from here? "10 years later and Ash is the floor manager of S-Mart"? ...on second thought, the idea of demonically possessed individuals running amok in a department store is pretty sweet. edotherocket 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 From DarkHorizons.com During "Boogeyman" promotions, Sam Raimi and producer Robert Tapert have talked in-depth about the future of the "Evil Dead" franchise and what's going on in regards to both the sequel, and the remake. Raimi confirmed to Bloody Disgusting that he will be directing and producing "Evil Dead 4", which will star Bruce Campbell as ASH and will also have many of the actors from the previous Evil Dead movies. Raimi says that "This is the project I really want to make. The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original". Ted and Sam Raimi have begun writing Part 4, and will be developing it for production later this year. Bruce Campbell and Tapert will both be involved. Talking with Coming Soon, they confirmed the remake is almost certainly not going to be a PG-13 (ala "The Grudge" & "Boogeyman") and due to Bruce's insistence there will be no character called Ash. The aim with it is "Rob and I would try to get a young director with brand new ideas with his own cast and his own take on the thing" says Raimi who confirms that as of right now they're "waiting to find the right director for the project, that thinks he can really bring something new...the goal of this director should be to terrify the audience in a very intense, and merciless way". If they don't find someone, they would "put it on hold. I don't think we'd abandon it, but we won't make it unless we have a really good script and a really great director, somebody we feel is just right for it". Wouldn't people get confused if the two films came out close to each other? Raimi told LatinoReview - "I think the fans are really smart. I don't think they'd be confused. I'd like to make a part four. There's this very small audience for Evil Dead IV, and if we ever make a movie called Evil Dead IV, which I'd like to make with Rob at some point and starring Bruce Campbell, I'm not saying there's a million people, but there's 100,000 people that will know exactly what it is and that's about as big as the crowd is, honestly. It's not a giant crowd. They're a great crowd". Tapert realized that the sequel might have to be Army of Darkness II, since Universal produced the most recent sequel. The guys also confirmed they're working on "The Grudge 2 script reusing Sarah Michelle Gellar's character but no word yet either way on whether the actress will return. Thanks to 'Brad' & 'Kellvin'. I'm a believer that there WILL be an Evil Dead 4 at long last.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 Thank you Bruce Campbell! Protect the character of Ash at all costs.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2005 I know they made ED 2 because they couldn't use the footage from the first. It's not so much a remake, but it's not a true sequel either.
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 The thing is, Bruce Campbell is old and out of shape now, I mean the guy has gray hair and doesn't even resemble the Ash from the first few Evil Dead movies. I would think they have to do something with Ash being older maybe trying to forget the past before some deadites make him come out of retirement one last time.
