This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

Aw man. I don't remember the last time I was this embarassed as a Lakers fan.

We just lost to the Atlanta Hawks 114-108, letting them score a season-high 68 points in the first half, and at one point facing a 29-point deficit.

DAMN IT KOBE COME BACK

Hubie Brown said they would lose, I think. Apparently the Lakers fare poorly in Atlanta. I can't possibly imagine why.

Good trade for Phoenix, McCarty is a reliable hand when he's given minutes and they didn't exactly give up anything with that pick. If ESPN news is to be believed, the Celtics included cash in the deal too. But yeah, Waltah fits in nicely and all of a sudden, the Phoenix bench is at least quasi respectable. I can name 4 guys off of it anyways, and thats always good.

Those late late 2nd round picks can lead to good things. Ainge should give them his ankles in the deal too frankly.

It's only a matter of time before the Bulls have a better record than the Lakers.

*le sigh*

And the Bulls beat the Mavs with Luol Deng and Curry combining for 53 points I believe. Great game, once they got control in the 4th, they never let it go.

Some memorable quotes..

``We lost the game because we're just playing horrible, because our energy level is real low,'' said Lamar Odom, who led the Lakers with 28 points. ``We're just coming out lame. Right now we're playing a less than mediocre game.''

You mean "bad", Lamar? I'd take it a step further and say it's so absolutely fucking horrible you just got whomped on by the fucking HAWKS when not even a month ago you had a lead on the Sonics and earlier this season you had the Heat beat and were leading the Suns by 15 with 5 left to go.

``I'd advise everybody on my team not to turn on the TV, not to read the paper,'' Lakers guard Caron Butler said.

The truth hurts, doesn't it Caron?

Hey man, It'll be rough at first, but you'll get used to it.

I've given up any hope on the future of the Knicks.

Let's take a look at Chicago's seasons of the second three-peat, the dark ages, and this year.

1995-1996: 72-10 (best in history)

1996-1997: 69-13

1997-1998: 62-20

1998-1999: 13-37 (lockout-shortened season)

1999-2000: 17-65

2000-2001: 15-67

2001-2002: 21-61

2002-2003: 30-52

2003-2004: 23-59

2004-2005: 23-22 (as of February 8)

So before the All-Star Break, they've tied last year's win total, passed three win totals (four counting the LSS), and are half a game back of #6 Orlando in the conference.

I remember thinking 30-52 was pretty god damned sweet back in the day.

Tommorrow, the Nets. Kobe could be back very soon, either against the Nets or Cavs. Apparently it'd be a gametime decision.

Must maintain one-game lead over Bulls in pissing contest with Czech.

For those who are complaining that Boston fans have it too good right now should remember this: We've still got the Celtics to send us back hurtling to Earth. Believe me, there is still some misery up here.

Yeah, but Celtic fans had a run in the 80's that most teams would kill for. You're owed another 5 years at least of suffering for that.

Yes, but a lil more suffering for Celtics fans wouldn't hurt anyone.

Anyone catch the end of the Kings/Suns game? Amazing block by Stoudemire to end the game. Brad Miller throws a hissy fit and seriously looks like a woman, Chris Webber punts the ball into the stands, and the crowd boos hysterically. It was fantastic.

I saw it too

Man, the Kings are easily the biggest group of bitches in all of sports. They complain to the refs every damn play.

Miller literally cries when he gets mad, its hilarious.

Miller wanted goal tending, but the ball had left his hands a couple seconds prior to it being erased from existence. He rips his jersey out of his shorts, throws his headband across the court, accompanied by a dramatic kick of the leg, and begins the hissy fit.

Looks like Webber and Miller are going to be out for a couple of games, especially Webber for kicking the ball into the stands.

The Suns are lucky Mrs. Christie is no longer in the area, Stoudemire's head would have been crushed by now.

I watched the end of that Bulls/Mavs game while I was waiting for my shift to start at work. The Bulls aren't a bad little team. I haven't gotten to see them play this season yet. Anyone think they'll make it out of the first round of the playoffs?

If they wind up with the sixth seed, they could very conceivably advance, as they'll be playing the winner of the Atlantic Division, and might even have home court advantage as pathetic as that division is.
