Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 The TCM remake special edition is a really good release, people are kind of polarized by the movie though. The original TCM isn't bad. The Dawn of the Dead 3 discer. Alien quadrilogy set... borderline horror there. Suspiria has a good release. Elm St. box set. Silence of the Lambs criterion collection... I don't consider it horror and it's out of print, but it is good.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Isn't Dawn of the Dead a four disc set, and not just three? Here are some others that haven't been mentioned yet that are great: -The Monster Legacy Collection Gift Set (As well as the other three MLC collections.) -Freaks -Phantasm: Special Edition -Ginger Snaps: Collector's Edition -Dog Soldiers -Carrie: Special Edition -The Evil Dead: The Book of the Dead Limited Edition -Cabin Fever (This is one hell of a DVD as long as you even remotely enjoyed the film. You have five audio commentaries, three shorts, a "family" version and a "chick" version of the film.) -Freddy Vs. Jason: New Line Platinum Series (This one is very underrated in my eyes, and the special features are very interesting.) -Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan -Jason Goes to Hell (A great commentary track is on this one.) -Halloween: 25th Anniversary Edition -Night of the Living Dead: Millennium Edition
Guest The Mandingo Warrior Report post Posted February 9, 2005 DVD's in my horror collection that are a must have: Universal's Monster Legacy Box Set Halloween Zombie House of 1000 Corpses The Evil Dead Trilogy Shaun of the Dead Return of the Living Dead Child's Play
Karnage 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Theres tons of Night of the Living Dead DVDs but the Elite Millenium Edition is the best.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted February 9, 2005 The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has a great commentary and I'm a sucker for those, so it's high on my list. I agree with IDRM on the remake's release too, the movie gets worse everytime it's viewed, but ithe double disc special edition has a lot of fun stuff on it. Any of the Romero trilogy is excellent obviously. Check out the Dawn Of The Dead remake unrated one as well, good commentary track with a nice set of extras( I loved the news broadcast in particular). Bubba Ho-Tep's not exactly horror, but great release for that one too. Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and the Army Of Darkness DVDs all have a pretty substantial amount of extra features and all of the commentaries are a riot. And finally, From Dusk Till Dawn's 2 disc special edition set.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 yeah From Dusk till Dawn has the Full Tilt Boggie documentarie wich is pretty fun, i love the intro with Quentin and the Pulp Fiction fan: "Mr. Tarantino i'm your biggest fan, i quit law-school because of you!" QT: "fuck off!" I would like to add the NOTLD remake, my favorite remake ever, and has a nice documentary and commentary by Savini.

eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 well Zombie or Zombi 2 (same movie) i love, amazing FX an make-up and i just love the island background. And the theme gets stuck in my head eeeeeverytime.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I don't know if I could defend Zombie as a "good movie" with a straight face, but it's entertaining as hell for horror fans and definitely worth having, if only for the zombie-vs.-shark fight scene.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Yeah, I recommend any DVD with Tarantino, Bruce Campbell or Savini commentaries, both guys have a lot of knowledge and excitement about whatever they're talking about and I like hearing that sort of thing personally. haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I cant sing the praises of the Friday the 13th and Nightmare boxsets enough. These are easily the most viewed movies I have. Though it was panned by critics, I recommend Event Horizon if you have a good surround sound system. That movie is pretty damn creepy, and the "Visions of Hell" sequence is really fucked up.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I have both the Nightmare and 13th sets. Only about half of either series is any good, but for the sake of horror I think you have to have them. Plus Nightmare is only $70 at Walmart, that's about $30 cheaper than Best Buy has it.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Isnt there somekind of jackie brown special edition coming out? that and reservoir dogs? The current releases are special editions. Both are 2-disc sets and they're pretty good. Both are also relatively cheap now. Reservoir Dogs can easily be found for $10 or less, while Jackie Brown can be found for $15 or less.
