Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted February 9, 2005 An Admired Leader By Ted E. Bear When one considers great leaders throughout the ages many names come to mind. Abe Lincoln: freed the slaves, reunited the country, great orator…but was supposedly a hard person to spend time with due to his attitude. Adolph Hitler: A controversial choice for sure as his reign of power caused a global war and saw millions killed. On the other hand few can deny his powerful orations and successful regrouping of the sagging Germany economy. (Although it didn’t rebound for long). His greatest fault may have been being overly ambiguous as he attempted to fight a war on two fronts and conquer Russia during the blistery winter months. Many historians feel Hitler’s reign may have lasted much longer had he just used some patience. Of course his leadership qualities waned in the final days as once he foresaw defeat, he showed the ultimate cowardice and took his own life, rather than face the consequences of his actions. That alone maybe should remove him from any list of great leaders. My choice for a leader I admire is a man who faced many tough issues head on and more than his share of controversy and public outcries for some of his decisions. My choice for a leader I admire is Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is not a traditional choice for most when discussing admirable leaders, mainly since he has the Whitewater, Lewinsky, and impeachment scandals on his political resume. Not to mention numerous cabinet members and associates facing arrests for wrong doing, and many witnesses whom mysteriously turned up missing and/or dead. His many indiscretions have made him a quite unpopular target for Republicans, Religious denominations and those who place heavy emphasis on family unity and the sanctity of marriage. This is all obvious now as George W. Bush is often being praised for his religious beliefs and moralistic life. The reasons I admire Pres. Clinton is mainly his charisma and charm, he was a tremendous meet and greet type of person. He seemed very genuine at these functions and that helped others warm up to him. I also think he was tremendous at giving speeches. From the “I come from a little town called Hope” to his recent Democratic Party speech which stole John Kerry’s thunder. He always seemed poise and rarely stumbled over his words. His southern accent was comforting and didn’t cause him to sound unintelligent which is a problem with certain southern accents. He was also willing to take calculated risks, like going on Arsenio Hall’s show and playing a saxophone with shades. It made him look “cool” when a far different reaction may have been drawn from it. His fiscal policies were also very beneficial to the American public as his administration created 22 million new jobs, enjoyed the highest home ownership rate in US history, had the lowest unemployment in 30 years, paid off 360 billion of the national debt, lowered income taxes and featured higher stock ownership by the average American than ever before. Overall I may not want to model my value system after Clinton, but if I could emulate his charisma, ability to deflect criticisms and maintain some semblance of dignity through it all, and his persistence, then I would possess more than a few traits to help me become a successful leader. Guest Loss Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I'm assuming you meant Whitewater, not Watergate. Anyway, I'd agree that Clinton was a very charismatic leader who was loved pretty much all over the world that was great at presenting himself to be a better President than he really was. He fancied himself as a liberal, keeping himself on their side, all the while promoting conservative issues almost constantly. Some would call that a moderate, but he was almost deceptive about the way he did it. One of his trademarks was to deliver a speech promising to work on key issues and never doing anything after the speech. Since he'd address it publicly, everyone assumed he had taken action. I always find it interesting that people criticize the Bushes for being oil hungry, and they are, but Clinton authorized more oil drilling than *any* Republican in American history ever has. He also utilized the military frequently, played both sides of the fence like a fiddle on the abortion issue and while he did push to allow gays in the military, once he realized how publicly unpopular that was, he completely stepped away from promoting gay rights. He was a brilliant politician, and those who think Hillary ran the country while he sat back and played the figurehead are nuts. I do miss the days where blowjobs were the national headlines as opposed to soldiers dying in a war, but Clinton's detractors might argue that his passive stance toward terrorism contributed to the attack on 09/11. I think had he been running against George W. Bush in 2000 or 2004, he would have easily won the election either time. Bush did garner more votes than Clinton ever received, but Clinton is probably better at campaigning than any President we've had since Reagan. There's a lot of good and a lot of bad with Bill. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I thought Clinton did a great job in the White House. Some people don't see that though because all they see was the sex scandal. I rather have Clinton still in office than Bush right now.

Jorge Gorgeous 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2005 Clinton is deemed a poor leader by conservatives because he got a blowjob and then lied about it. Ronald Reagan, their golden boy, lied about selling arms to Middle Eastern countries and cycling the money through South American rebel groups. Pardon me, but which one seems fucking worse?
