godthedog Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 i'd say she isn't deliberately cruel per se, just totally empty as a human being. she doesn't really know any better, as she's just not capable of thinking about people other than herself like that. you could say the same about belmondo's character: throughout the whole movie he's a completely selfish conniving little shit, and we don't get much indication that he truly loves this girl: he just tries to imitate the kind of love he sees in the movies, because he wants to be cool like the guys in the movies. that's the great irony of the movie: seberg's character is the one who seems like the bad guy, but belmondo is just as bad as she is, and there really isn't anything to these people at the core.

Ah, I'm glad to see someone else shares my fascination with Anna Karina. My god, that woman was/is beautiful. So I went to the "finer" establishment here, and of course staying to true Miami form, the majority of their foreign/rare beers they had were all hispanic/latin. *sigh* I ended up buying a 6 pack of George Killian's Irish Red, Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout, Perla Dorada (Spain), Mariner (Holland), and San Miguel (Philippines). I'll kick off the evening with a Jager Bomb, and move on going from what appears to be the lightest beer to the darkest, with the exception of the Irish Red. Where are you able to typically find those beers you mentioned, Inc?

Wasn't saying she was intentionally cruel, but her obliviousness to her own behavior didn't make her any less so. I never viewed Belmondo as some sort of hero (maybe of the anti- variety, if anything); dude was a prick, and I think the film never tried to portray him as anything but.

Where are you able to typically find those beers you mentioned, Inc? The only beers mentioned here that I've tried are the Killians, which is merely ok, and the San Miguel, which is good. The Samuel Smith brews I've had are the Oatmeal Stout, the Nut Brown Ale and the Lager, are all of which are good. As for where I get my beer, there's a great bar here in town called Fuel, which has an extraordinary selection both on tap and in bottle.

Should I get: Neil Young Journey Through The Past American Stars and Bars Hawks and Doves Old Ways Everybody's Rockin' Landing on Water Life Second, regarding Tom Waits, I have Blood Money (loved), and heard Alice (hated), Bone Machine (needs a second listen) and Mule Variations (tough to find again). Where do I go from here?

And how dare you hate Alice, when it's clearly superior to Blood Money. Anyway, go for Rain Dogs next.

Here's something you should know about me, something which I am not terribly proud: I don't care for poetry. I've tried. Believe me, I've tried. I even took a class on the subject (Contemporary American Poetry, to be precise), but poetry still leaves me cold. I'm not saying The Waste Land had that effect—honestly, I haven't read it. I suppose I should, though, since I'm missing major lit cred for not having read it.

There isn't one stand out episode for me, but I'll tell you what episodes have a special place in my heart: Pod People Cave Dwellers Sidehackers Mitchell Just about any of the Gamera episodes. I started watching the show the moment our town got Comedy Central, which was shortly after season three began, way back in 1991. As for the hosts, I'll always take Joel over Mike, though Mike was still funny. The program didn't start losing me until Dr. Forrester left, leaving us with the pitifully horrible Pearl. God, I hated her.

McMurphy and Torrance were both fine characters, though the former had a bit more depth than the latter, so he gets the edge. But hey, I'll take Billy Buddusky over either of them.
