LessonInMachismo 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 I went to Amazon last night and put six WWE DVD's in my cart. The total came out to about $156. Then I thought to myself "What am I doing?!" So I went to deepdiscountdvd.com and put six WWE DVD's in my cart (all identical to the ones I had picked at Amazon, save Brock in the place of Steel Cage, as DDDVD didn't have it) and the total came to $96. That is stark. Can I get a rough idea of what I can expect from these? Rey Mysterio DVD Brock Lesnar DVD Eddie G. DVD Benoit DVD Hall of Fame 2004 Mick Foley's Greatest Hits and Misses On the DVD topic, does anybody think it'd be great if WWE came out with vintage shows on DVD's? If 24/7 takes off, this won't be necessary, but I think stuff like PrimeTime would sell.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 I have the eddie, benoit, foley. and hall dvds Here s a brief review of each Benoits-Great Main Feature on Benoits career, covering a lot of points (good mark out stuff here) Extras are fantastic, getting everything from his early japan days to his ecw to wcw and finally wwf/e classics. Worth noting that it has both his wcw world title and wwe world title wins on it. and the rare Benoit/Regal match Eddies-again great main feature, it will tug at your heart I guarantee it. Extras are very good and interesting. I think you will particulary enjoy the Los Guererros vignettes, as well as his classsic matches with Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, and of course the Brock Lesnar match. Foleys-All matches, hosted and introd by foley. Good collection of stuff here, including Micks 2nd ever match, his debut as a jobber in the wwf against the british bulldogs. The vader match is a fun, stiff brawl. The streetfight may be outshined by many things that have occured since, but it helped to set the standard for harcore matches in the big two (ie a complete ECW ripoff, but in a good way) A lot of nostaliga here, but the 2nd disc is th ebetter one, featuring his cllasic battles with hbk, HHH and Austin, as well as the infamous HIAC. Get used to logo blaring as its in full swing by the 2nd disc, but if that doesnt bother you, you will enjoy the look back at micks carreer (in fact most of the moments and matches shown here were ones that Mick touched on his his books, so its cool to have the video accompanient) Hall of Fame 2004-Tremedous fun here. Lots of nostalgia, I dare anyone not to mark out even at the openeing tribute to all the other member5s. The ceremony is great fun and Booby Heenan in particular steals the show and will have you ROTFL for 20 minutes. The extras are a treat, even if the matches arent the greatest. The rare footage of billy grahams wwf title win, two ic title changes, Great Heenan and Monsoon moments, as well as pete roses wm apperances and the legendary Salughter vs Patterson alley Fught (also with alternate commentary by the two which is funyn and insightful) Fun stuff, and great for nostalgic purposes All in all, I think that you will enjoy these dvds and kudos for getting them all for the lower price as for brocks and reys I cant say much , but Im sure theyre good. Ha...I saw "hall dvds" and I thought "Scott Hall has a DVD out??" I don't know why I didn't pick up HoF earlier. Heenan is one of my all time favorites. The only complaint I foresee happening with Rey and Brock is that the DVD's were made a bit early. Well, in Rey's case, a lot early. Thanks, J82.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 For the Rey Mysterio DVD just skip the feature and go straight to the matches as it features Rey vs Eddie Guerrero from WCW and his work on Smackdown during the good ol days when Paul E was "doing the same match every week". Unless you are a big fan of Bobby Heenan don't get the Hall of Fame DVD.
res37618 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Definitely skip the main feature on Rey's DVD and head straight for the matches. Benoit's, Eddie's, and Foley's are all good stuff. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I liked the Hall of Fame DVD's, but I'm a fan of old-school and loved some of the matches, especially the Slaughter/Patterson boot-camp match. The minute that DDD gets the Bloodbath DVD back in, you NEED that one! It's one of my favorite in my collection, only a couple of bad matches, everything else it top-notch stuff. Amazon is THE worst place to buy DVD's (especially WWE) - you get a much better deal going through DeepDiscountDVD. Overstock.com is pretty good too, as an alternative. When Wal-Mart has them in, they've usually got pretty good prices. But they're sporadic - I bought SummerSlam '04 from there once they got a shipment in that didn't have the sound flaw. But then they didn't carry another one here until Armageddon. I'm gonna wait and see if they have Royal Rumble before I order it, just so I don't have to wait for it. razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 The Benoit and Guerrero DVDs must be brought as a pair because one features the early years while the other one features their fight for titles on Smackdown. Watch them progress from the early days working in Japan to the Smackdown Six era fighting over the tag team and US titles.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Rey's DVD may be early in terms of his WWE work, but that's okay. It still features some awesome WCW matches (I'm going off the top of my head here, but I think it has him vs Malenko and Jericho) and it might even have the 2/3 falls match he had in ECW with...Psycosis? I dunno, it's been a while since I watched the DVD. It also has Rey vs Benoit vs Angle, which is honestly one of the best three-way matches I've ever seen. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 I have all of those DVDs except Brock's and HOF, although I've seen both of them. Brock's is pretty blah, specially the main feature. IIRC matches include his Title win vs Rock (good match), vs Angle (WMXIX very good), vs Big Show (the ring collapses from after a superplex, excellent visual, good match) and maybe a couple more. I'd say vs Hogan but I may be mistaking it with the SSlam DVD. DDDVD is the ONLY place I buy my WWE DVDs now, except the RVD one which up until last week they didn't have. I bought that one from Amazon.com for $17.49 and got it before street date. The Steel Cage Matches DVD is a must-buy. Whenever it is available on DDDVD go GET IT. JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Deep Discount DVD is awesome...I will be getting the Rumble there when it comes out, and for $13 plus free shipping you can't go wrong.
LessonInMachismo 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks for all the input. Yes, I wanted the Cage Match DVD for Owen vs. Bret. I will get it eventually. For now, I have SIX new DVD's to watch. Yeah, DDDVD.com rocks all. I first found it when searching for a good price on the anime show Star Blazers. No, I'm not an anime fan, but Star Blazers rocks. The price difference was like $60 compared to Amazon.

res37618 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2005 How good is the Hulk Still Rules dvd? I know its pretty cheap now, but I was wondering if its worth picking up. It's good, even if you don't care for Hogan a whole lot. Again, if you're an old-school mark like me, it's got some good stuff on it, like an early MSG match vs. a face Ted DiBiase, the "Puerto Rican Rainstorm" match vs. John Studd, and his first WCW title victory over Flair, which was actually a pretty good match. The feature portion (talking about all of his past opponents, his "bio" in the sport, so to speak) is pretty much eschewed with Hogan's own opinion, but it's still kinda interesting to hear him give opinions about working with Orndorff, Piper, Savage, and Bundy (whom he says damned near killed him every time he worked with him, but still loved their matches together). It's pretty good, I'd pick it up, especially if it's cheap. I've seen it as cheap as $6 or $7 on places like half.com and ebay and such.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 How good is the Hulk Still Rules dvd? I know its pretty cheap now, but I was wondering if its worth picking up. The footage spans his entire career, so it's definitely worth having. The video quality is tremendous for some of the older matches. Very good nostalgia value. If you're not into the old school style, you of course won't like it, but if you can appreciate his style and his charisma, then it's a really, really good buy (plus, it's 2 DVDs, whereas most WWE DVDs are 1 DVD). I'd recommend it.
