Shane Douglas planning ECW Reunion show

Recommended Posts

http://www.impactwrestling.com/Content.aspx?ID=290

There are said to be plans underway for an Extreme Championship Wrestling reunion show on Saturday, June 11th at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Former ECW World Champion and TNA's own Shane Douglas is said to be the main person behind the event and has reportedly already sent out feelers and contracts to former ECW talent such as Sabu, Raven, The Sandman and many others.

According to those close to the situation, Douglas' plan is to have many former ECW stars involved from what many considered the "golden era" of the promotion from 1994 to 1997. Former ECW referees and ring announcers are also expected to be invited to the show to give it a very "old school" feel to it. Of course, we can't forget the continuing rumors of the WWE running an ECW event of its own after the success of the "Rise & Fall of ECW" DVD on June 12th (a day after this scheduled event) in New York City that has been tentatively titled "ECW One Night Stand."

Interesting.

So why didn't Vince pursue Viking Hall again? It's the obvious location for a reunion.

WWE also has at least some production guys, office personnel, etc. who are used to the way the Hammerstein Ballroom operates.

Viking Hall just isn't equipped for a major PPV. I've been all around that building, and the backstage area is tiny. With all their shit, they'd have to rent out the Foreman Mills next door or something.

Watch the ECW DVD. Paul Heyman says they were pumping so much power through the little junky ECW Arena, that a transistor blew 13 seconds after the PPV went off the air.

I think after that, WWE running any kind of live televised show from there is out of the question.

This should be interesting if it actually happens. Of course the question is, will this event be taped, and can they even call it "ECW" since Vince owns all the rights and licensing to "ECW" now......*to be continued*

they could be slick and call it ECW...EASTERN Championship Wrestling.

in reality this is such a low blow to the WWE's proceedings in doing their own ECW PPV. if they were smart they would throw some money Douglas way to Work for their PPV and so all his efforts would be spent bringing more ECW allums to the event, rather than having to deal with Shane stealing their thunder by having a one day event with ECW wrestlers who said no to the offer by the WWE

I actually find this post kinda funny, because I was just talking with a friend yesterday about how if there is going ot be an ECW reunion show, Vince McMahon should have asked Shane Douglas to bury the hatchet for a night and be there.

Looks like they are headed in a different direction, though

That was what? 8 years ago. The place must of been improved since then because numerous other ECW PPVs came from the Bingo Hall without any problems.

I'd be SO there if Shane Douglas could get Mass Transit to come back for a rematch against New Jack :)

Umm... Mass Transit died in 2001 or 2002... He's dead anyway.

Actually, they didn't. Barely Legal was the only ECW PPV which aired from the ECW Arena.

Like that would stop New Jack?

He'd still put him on a table, climb up to the tallest rafter....and then slip and miss the table entirely.

Really? I thought all of the N2R shows came from the Arena

Heh... Ah well. Where did most of the PPV shows emanate from then? Because I'm sure a lot of them seem to come from the same place, which is the one I'm amused was the ECW Arena

IIRC, Barely Legal was the only ECW Arena PPV. The other PPV's moved around a bit, though.

Gotta love Shane Douglas. There's burning every bridge in the business, and then there's throwing dirt on them, pissing on them, spitting on them and setting them on fire again. This just reeks of Douglas being an asshole just to be an asshole. Ric Flair kept you from becoming the next Hulk Hogan -- we get it already. Shawn Michaels made sure you never became WWF World Champion -- we get it already. Paul Heyman owes you a billion dollars -- we get it already. Please, by all means, take your delusions and mental instability, pack your bags, and get back into teaching or something. Pro wrestling shit you out years ago, yet you refuse to be flushed.

Reading this in Cornette's voice makes it even better.

i love how Douglas would always bitch and holler about all the preferential treatment guys like Flair, Michaels and Nash got, but didn't seem to mind when he got the same treatment in ECW. (good example: his yearish-long title reign despite being injured though most of it.)

I read the dismissal before I had even heard the rumor, and that was the middle of last week. I thought this thread was from two weeks ago, until I looked.

As someone said, CZW is running a show.

That was more of an issue of Paul Heyman not wanting to break the lineage of the ECW Title than it was a preferrential treatment of Shane Douglas. Heyman would have let anyone in that situation do that.

then he should have put it on Al Snow at Wrestlepalooza '97. and if Douglas pitched a fit, fuck him. if Douglas was as much of a professional as he likes to think he is, he would have no problem. Douglas knew he was hurt, he admitted it, he should've done the job to a guy, who, y'know, could actually work and wasn't injured.
