Jorge Gorgeous 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 West Hills = outside of Portland, OR... so go ahead and assign me any park. You know, except for any park in the history of Houston. I won't have that stupid hill or terrible astroturf churning the knees of my outfielders.

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Ahh... did NY play at Yankee stadium before being called the yankees though? Just wondering... my history for old-ass teams is bad.

I'm actually assigning your team name as either Bethlehem or Jerusalem, since someone else is using the Portland Beavers. Or, I could name your team the Hollywood Fightin' Jews, and give you Wrigley Field in Los Angeles.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 They played at Hilltop Park as the Highlanders, moved to the Polo Grounds in 1913, and then changed their name to the Yankees. Yankee stadium was built in time for the 1923 season. The dimensions I requested were the original ones. I assume the corners were deepened and center brought in at some point before the renovation in 75-76, but I haven't been able to find info on that yet. 490 in center is crazy. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Yankee Stadium. I think the 1937 dimensions are suitable, which place the fences at 301 in left, 457 in death valley in left, 461 in center, and 296 in right. Part of the odd dimensions was to accomodate the stadium for football games. The first overtime game in NFL history was played at Yankee Stadium.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Whatever the hometown park for the Senators was in fine.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 I always thought Yankee Stadium had those weird dimensions to help out Babe Ruth. Â Anyway, Ebbets Field is fine with me.
MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Since Ottawa was never in the major leagues, give me Jerry Park in Montreal as the home park.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Just out of curiosity, how are we going to try some of the more "crafty" pitchers in this simulation? Should we bank on Eddie Cicotte being able to slip a shine ball past the modern officiating?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 The simulation simply measures stats. It doesn't take into account how the pitcher piched, whether he threw lots of spitballs, breaking balls, or what not.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 One more question: are we using the designated hitter?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 No.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get in on this, but I will be watching. Â Question, Al...are you just going to sim an entire season and then do a recap of that season in full, or break it down month by month?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Question, Al...are you just going to sim an entire season and then do a recap of that season in full, or break it down month by month? Â I'll produce reports either each month, or each quarter of the season.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Since there is no DH, will there be trades allowed? There's no point in me having 2 HOF first basemen.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Since there is no DH, will there be trades allowed? There's no point in me having 2 HOF first basemen. No, I asked already. I assume you might have to convert one of them to a different position, but that's a death knell, I think.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 You can convert a player, but if they never played the position, it's not wise thing to do.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Honestly he shouldn't have drafted two straight first basemen anyways. A lesson to learn, I guess.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 If it means anything Foxx also played catcher, and 3rd base.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Greenberg was a full-time left fielder from 1940 to 1945 - stuff him out there.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 I thought Greenberg was in WWII?

Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 As long as he played LF in 1940, and half of 1945, it's all good. He had possibly his best year in 1940.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 As long as he played LF in 1940, and half of 1945, it's all good. He had possibly his best year in 1940. Wouldn't Al be more likely to use his more consistent stats (accumulated as a 1B) than one year where he was a LF?
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 His stats at left weren't far off from his stats at first. I think Al will pick his best year.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 unless the best year was so far out of left field (no pun intended... ok maybe it was) then I assume he'd revise that. However, you said Greenberg had a solid year as a LF, so go for it.
