Quick Smackdown vs Raw question

Recommended Posts

Guest INXS

I've played through a season with the Smackdown brand and i'm wondering if playing as the Raw brand is the same angles/storylines or totally different? Also, does the season alter any if you choose a different character to go through the season with? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's pretty much the same storyline for both brands. However, there will be variations in terms of character depending on how high up the card your character is and whether your character has a title or not.

Yes, those claims that both brands had totally different season modes were bullshit.

The game makes a great frisbee.

Oh, it's totally different. On Raw, you feud with Tajiri for Torrie Wilson. On Smackdown, you feud with Renee Dupree for Torrie. If that isn't different, I don't know what is... [/sarcasm]

I think you mean on Raw it was Stacy.

I think I ended up locking my Divas in a closet or something, cuz I never used them after I'd won them.

Because them screwing up the season mode isn't as important as them somewhat fixing the ultra-shitty play balance of HCTP.

Shitty play balance?

I will agree that some wrestlers ability scores and their moves needed to be tweaked, but I wouldn't call the balance shitty.

Then again, with the logic set right, the moveset put in a certain way, a wrestler with strictly average stats can wreak unholy terror when played right.

My Lex Luger CAW has only 6s right now, he still has a way to go, but he is annihilating some wrestlers.

Cruisers aren't worth a damn in HCTP. You screw up against the CPU you can be totally boned in two moves. I'm not moaning that its hard (HCTP's ai was brick-stupid most of the time), but the AI sucks and the CPU can only win with cheap-ass bs, getting lucky after you kick its ass constantly for ten minutes but get one move reversed.

The stat system is still god-awful in SvR but it's much more balanced. However, the stats are so inaccurate and jacked-up beyond real life. You can't create wrestlers and give them realistic stats because they'll be about 20 below the average wrestlers' stats in the game. The whole HCTP/SvR attribute system is complete trash.

Don't get me started on the 98 pointers that make up 90% of the putzes who play online.

I would.

I mean, cruisers are supposed to have the advantage of speed...but guys like HHH and Old School Undertaker still have speed scores of like, 8 or 9. That's not even close.

Speed isn't even much of an advantage, too, because most guys' walking speed is pretty brisk even in the average range. If you have a 10 you can leap up on the turnbuckle when you run at it. Whoopdie-crap.

SvR's weight class caps don't help much, because the system's still completely wrong.

That actually does make a big difference.

Not really.

Seeing as they can't counter standing aerial moves, I find it an ok tactic to hit them with them over and over. If you climb, they'll usually hit you out of it or move out of the way. It's not the greatest thing in the world though, no.

That's what I mean. It's cake to counter aeriels by hitting someone out of their climbing animation. It's harder with the auto-jump, but still very easily done.

Once they've taken off (you can still nail them early in the take off animation), you can't counter but you can easily avoid with taunts that move you or simply by running out of the way.

But that means even if you have 10-speed, speed isn't much of a boon and it doesn't make up for other deficiences.

However, the A.I. in HCTP was pretty stupid and would run head-on into missile dropkicks over and over.

This confuses me...You can give created wrestlers any stats you want. With the exception of like cruisers can't have max strength, and heavyweights can't have max speed I think, but the wrestlers in the games stats aren't like that either. So what do you mean they'll be 20 below average wrestlers stats in the game?

Understand that this game is NOT created with the wrestling purists/smarks/geeks like us in mind. If you want that, go over to that wrestling sim whose name escapes me right now. If thats what they wanted to do, the stats would be based off of a 100 scale instead of 10. This game is for kids and teens. Any one of us, who have a minimum of ten to fifteen ideas to make the game better just on the surface are not going to be taken into account.

I have yet to see a wrestling game going all the way back to Tag Team Wrestling that didn't have AI that you could not exploit if you know what you're doing. Consider SYM, where a female wrestler (much less a cruiserweight) could slam and throw around super heavyweights with impunity. HCTP addressed that, and it helped the game balance somewhat. For example, my Low-Ki CAW has very high stats, but the fact that he is a cruiserweight/light heavyweight cancels out about 40-60% of his moveset. Oh well, I just have to use other moves and a lot of strikes to wear down my opponent. Oh wait, thats what Low-Ki does in his real life matches.

This game is not totally based on realism, and never has been. From top to bottom, it doesn't support that. I ran into that when making my Horsemen CAWs, and I just shrugged my shoulders and kept playing. It is what it is. Accept it, or don;t play, because excessive bitching about the game is exactly that.

no, every time I got that stoyline on raw, it was with Torrie(in my current season as Batista I won her and can use her as a manager). on sd it was with sable
