Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 (edited) SWF Sunday Night Frost and HOLT report From the Fire 2005 March 6 2005 Tempe, Arizona, at Sun Devil Stadium Report by Jim Crupi of Phoenix, Arizona, Smartmarks.com reader Frost: - Dominic Korgath crushed the Memphis Eel in 1:18 with the Big Splash. - The first video package showcased the two newest and brightest stars in the SWF: Scott Pretzler and Jay Hawke. Special attention was given to Pretzler’s winning the World Cruiserweight Title and the tension that manifested itself between Pretzler and Hawke regarding that belt. Afterwards, Ben Hardy interviewed Pretzler and Hawke, and opened the interview by asking them to comment on Wildchild apparently being without a partner for the title defense. Pretzler replied that Wildchild was undeserving of any mercy, and that even if he were, he wouldn’t have received any anyway. Hardy directed the next question at Hawke, pointing out that, unlike Pretzler, this is his first title match, and asked him if he had any butterflies about his first big match, which Hawke laughed at, saying that, although he might be a rookie in the SWF, he’d in the business for almost ten years, and had won titles all over the world, so he wasn’t nervous. Hardy then continued his streak of asking tough questions, asking Hawke to comment on his snatching Pretzler’s Cruiserweight Championship, and asking him how he was going to be able to team with Pretzler when he wanted to win his title as well. Hawke flinched at the question, and then replied that he was “one hundred percent focused on winning the Cruiser-err… I… uh… Tag Team Titles.” Pretzler looked at him like, “Oh really?” and I thought that they were going to throw down, but somehow they came to an agreement that they would win the tag titles first, and then whatever happened would happen. - John Duran beat Brian Levy in 3:12 with the Blunt Force Trauma. - Ann Onita and Andrea Montgomery beat Perfect Bo and Jamie Drazon in 8:53, following a double missile dropkick on Bo. - The second video package featured the Hardcore Title reign of Todd Cortez. Afterwards, Cyclone Comet interviewed the Urban Legend and asked him if he was still uncomfortable wrestling without Mike Van Siclen having his back. Cortez replied that Van Siclen still had his back, even if he wasn’t at ringside, and expressed his appreciation for Van Siclen’s role in getting him started in the SWF. Comet then talked about his incredible run with the Hardcore Title, comparing it to Wildchild’s reign in 2003, and mentioning how his record-setting run in the Hardcore Division included wins over five men who would go on to become World Heavyweight Champion. Cortez surprisingly gave a lot of props to Wildchild, but also went on to say that those guys weren’t nearly as good back then as they’d become, and compared it to a lifetime Triple-A baseball player bragging about how he used to whip up on Hall-of-Fame major leaguers back when they were in Little League. Finally, Comet asked Cortez if he had any aspirations beyond the Hardcore Division, with Cortez saying he obviously did, that just about everyone in the SWF wanted to eventually become the World Heavyweight Champion. Comet asked him if he had any plans on going ever after his partner’s ICTV title, and Cortez replied, saying that for right now, he’s happy with breaking new ground with the Hardcore Title, but that if Maddix still held the title when he was ready to move up, that he wouldn’t be afraid to challenge him. - Styke beat Uncle Filthy with the Low End Theory in 6:04. - Spike Jenkins beat Evan Wolfe in 5:51 with the Ratings Crash. - The final video package highlighted Landon Maddix, from his World Title win against Toxxic at Slay Ride, to losing the World Title to Toxxic, to winning the Clusterfuck. Ben Hardy asked him what it meant to win the ‘Fuck, and Maddix talked about how the Clusterfuck winner’s club was the most exclusive membership in all of professional wrestling, and how everyone who’s won the ‘Fuck went on to become the World Heavyweight Champion. He also added that he had the advantage of having already been the Heavyweight Champion, and already knowing what it takes to beat Toxxic. Hardy asked him whether he thought having to open the Pay-Per-View to defend the USJL title would affect his performance in the main event. Maddix replied by saying that it wouldn’t be any different than wrestling in the ‘Fuck, so he wasn’t worried about it. Finally, Hardy asked him if he had any last words for Toxxic, and Maddix said that he had five: “Mamma said knock you out!” - Mak Francis beat Sean Davis in 16:43. Hell of a match! My favorite spot was when Davis went to military press Mak out of the ring, but Mak grapevined his arms, and the BOTH went over! Mak won with Brotherly Love. From the Fire: - Muhammed Koran came down to the ring after the USJL match to complain about how it was some kind of capitalist American conspiracy to keep him off the Pay-Per-View, and that, whether the fans like it or not, he was going to take the SWF by storm, and capture the World Heavyweight Championship to prove the greatness of Islam. It would be fair to say that this was not well received. - While they were setting up the cage, Funyon recognized SWF Legend and Arizona native Mercury, who received a nice nostalgia pop and a standing ovation. - Johnny Dangerous stayed in the ring to celebrate the title win after Wildchild went backstage, and the crowd shit all over him; I guess that, after the heat of the moment was over with, everybody was pissed about how he pretty much left Wildchild to fend for himself for damn near the whole match. - While the cage was being taken back down, Funyon announced that tickets were still available for SWF Storm in Phoenix. He also mentioned that, due to the ratings success of SWF Wrath, they would be debuting a new, “late-night” syndicated wrestling show, to be called “Joker’s Wild,” and that taping for the pilot would be held next week at Lockdown. - Due to the relative brevity of the Hardcore Title match, there was another, impromptu match before the Main Event, which saw Manson beat Danny Dagda with Consequences.
