Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 TSN article The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday that they have installed a light blue ice surface at HSBC Arena for two American Hockey League games being played by their AHL affiliate Rochester Americans. Second article I think it looks fascinating anyway. I am not really enthused about the orange blue lines, but it is nice to see that the NHL at least appear to making an effort to improve the game post-lockout. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 How does blue ice and orange lines improve the game of hockey? "Ohh..look..the ice is BLUE!" *changes channel*

treble 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Parts of the ice were blue in Lake Placid in 1980.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 It's already sort of bluish-white, the ice. I call it "ice blue." Bettman wanted to paint the ice beige with the ice behind the goals painted in the color of the team with the team names written on them but someone stopped him
Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 That shade of blue isn't actually bad. And most ice is white. But I still don't see, in experimenting with that why they couldn't still use the blue and red lines. Those orange lines looked ugly.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Interesting concept to have different ice colours, and I can't honestly say that the light blue is a bad concept. That orange however would take time to getting used to.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Yeah, I don't really have a problem with light blue ice, but the orange blue lines and blue red line idea is just retarded.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Would you prefer the following colours to orange then: Pink Green Yellow Silver Because those would be your only options for new zone lines. As for the centre line being a dark blue, that's just stupid.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Yeah, why change the blue lines if you're still going to have a big blue line out there? Keep the line colours the way they are, they're not the reason that people don't watch the games.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Are they doing this so you can see the puck better?
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Pretty much Dama. And we'll have to wait on the verdict from the AHL team in Buffalo to find out if its a success or not. Although, I would die laughing if some team used neon pink for their ice rink. That would be hilarious. Although, the only two teams I can think of using neon pink are Hurricanes or Coyotes. RepoMan 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 This is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. Is a casual fan who been truned off from the NHL by Bettman's dumbassery going to come back next year because the ice is a different color? The Sabres need to go back to the classic blue and gold and drop the goathead logo. and GO AMERKS, the best team in North America
Vigo 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Blue ice, green ice, who gives a shit? The NHL has bigger problems to worry about then what color its ice should be.

How about fixing that little labour stoppage thingie before changing the ice colour?
Guest Laka Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Blue ice would be a very smart move. It would be much easier to follow the game on TV. And while this may sound stupid... I think having 90% of the screen be white, makes the game seem more boring to the common fan. Looks are important. Just look at the Computer Humanitarian Crucial Whatever bowl. You probably don't know what that is. The Blue Turf bowl. You know what that is. And you'll watch because of it. For a few seconds, at least.

A friend of mine went to High School in the area and she said they have to clean dead birds off the field that think it's a lake and try to land.

A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Nice Simpsons reference. How hard is it to follow the damned puck anyways? It hasn't moved fast across the ice since 1994.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Changing a sport to make it 'easier to follow' is bullcrap. Might as well change Memento to make it an easier movie to understand. If you're too dimwitted to follow the puck, then don't watch the damn sport. Those of us that CAN follow it will enjoy watching the sport the way people have for years and years. Ced 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 They should make in the Boise State SmurfTurf shade of blue if the NHL really wants some attention. They can use it as bluescreen and make it look like they're playing a hockey game over a bunch of sharks or angry midgets or something. Having a season would be nice too.
