Exslade ZX Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Yea, saw it posted on another board, and thought it was pretty interesting. Because I didn't even know they were making a Doom movie.. ] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419706/ Will it be good? Crap? Yea.. From the pic..it looks like Alone in the Dark.
The Amazing Rando Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 The first time I heard about it was when Rock was on the Daily Show. Lots of blowing shit up, apparently.......and the BFG.
AndrewTS Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Non-native director? Check. Little experience as a lead director? Check. A screenwriter with no previous experience on a real movie? Check. A cast filled with nobodies and/or hasbeens? Check!! Rock should brush up on his boot-up-ass skills on his agent. However, Alone in the Dark will probably still be the worst and funniest film of 2005 AitD probably was closer to a Doom movie than the Doom movie will be.
Mik Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 According to the imdb.com boards, the Rock turns bad half way through the movie and opposes the good troops led by Karl Urban (Eomer).
AndrewTS Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 looks like Universal Soldier Maybe they'll do Doom: The Movie: The Game, which will be a Turrican clone.
AmericanDragon Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 According to the imdb.com boards, the Rock turns bad half way through the movie and opposes the good troops led by Karl Urban (Eomer). Well he's playing Sarge and that's what happened in Doom 3.
eiker_ir Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 According to the imdb.com boards, the Rock turns bad half way through the movie and opposes the good troops led by Karl Urban (Eomer). that souns kinda interesting. He's never played a bad guy in a movie before. Well, only the "Stateoftheart" CGI version from the Mummy Returns
Slayer Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Non-native director? Check. Little experience as a lead director? Check. A screenwriter with no previous experience on a real movie? Check. A cast filled with nobodies and/or hasbeens? Check!! Plot that has little or nothing to do with the game from which it takes name? Check
razazteca Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Who cares all I want to see is the Rock blow up some demons with the BFG or use a chainsaw on someone.
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 And that kind of mentality is exactly why it'll come in #1 at the box office.
Youth N Asia Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Rock's not a proven boxoffice draw. Scorpion King went over huge, but The Rundown and Walking Tall didn't do much. So it'll have to look badass on its own, The Rock alone won't make it #1.
Epic Reine Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 The DOOM "storyline" is crap to begin with so I'm certain this movie will do just about as good as House of the Dead and Alone In The Dark.
razazteca Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 The Rock is a bigger star than anybody in those 2 movies. The movie of DOOM~ will be #1 for 3 weeks straight. I wonder if Teddy Long, Ron Simmons, or Butch Reed have bit parts in the movie.
ChrisMWaters Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Wait wait........Doom has a plot? From what I saw on G4 one time...from Doom 3, the plot is this: Hell is on Mars, Hell is trying to overrun Mars, you have to kill the demons from Hell trying to overrun Mars.
razazteca Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Did'nt Kurt Russell use that plot in the movie Soldier?
AmericanDragon Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Soldier had nothing to do with demons. Event Horizon would be a better comparison.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Doesn't matter, they both sucked.
Slayer Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Wait wait........Doom has a plot? From what I saw on G4 one time...from Doom 3, the plot is this: Hell is on Mars, Hell is trying to overrun Mars, you have to kill the demons from Hell trying to overrun Mars. Except that with the movie, instead of hellspawn (a staple of Doom from Day 1) they're fighting mutants, a rather large deviation
Lil' Bitch Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Looks entertaining. *crosses his fingers

Slayer Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Which was still at least closer to their game than House of the Dead
CBright7831 Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I have yet to see a Rock movie in theaters, and I'll probably skip this one.
dubq Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 You should. The Rundown and Be Cool are pretty fucking good movies. Edit: I am surprised, however, that they didn't hire idiot Uwe Boll to do this movie..
teke184 Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 More reason NOT to adapt fucking video games into movies... Just about the only crossover successes have been Tron and Mortal Kombat, the former being given a story that fit the game and the later already having a story adapted / ripped off from Enter The Dragon. The rest of the adaptations (Mario, Resident Evil, MK2: Annihilation, Street Fighter, House Of The Dead, Alone In The Dark, etc.) have been the drizzling shits. The sad thing is that Rock has already signed up to do ANOTHER game-to-movie translation, Spy Hunter. At least that one will pretend to have a storyline.

Edit: I am surprised, however, that they didn't hire idiot Uwe Boll to do this movie.. Come on, it's Doom--easily one of the top 5 most influencial games (as far as mainstream attention) of the past 15 years. Sounds more like something up PWSA's alley. At least his movies tend to pull in a respectable profit. Non-gamers likely never heard of the AitD or HotD games, but Doom? Of course they have.
CBright7831 Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 You should. The Rundown and Be Cool are pretty fucking good movies. I was considering buying/renting The Rundown and I was going to see Be Cool, but I changed my mind for that one.

Mainstreamers have heard of Myst... doesn't mean that a Myst movie will be worth a shit or make any money. Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter both proved that one.
