Benoit vs. Triple H on Raw tommorow night

Recommended Posts

Didn't want to make this a spread thread, but figured I would.

It just occured to me that tommorow is March 14th, 2005. One year since Wrestlemania 20...hard to believe...I think it's a cool tribute to do this match.

$50 says it ends with Batista costing Hunter the match, since we should expect it to be non-title.

Yeah, I don't think it's out of the question for Benoit to win this match. I doubt HHH will defend his title before WM

I believe HHH is winning at WM, which means he will lose meaningless matches going into the event.

Plus, if Benoit wins vs HHH, he can win the Ladder match and the build can be strong for that evenetual title match.

Before the altercation with Matt Hardy happened, I would of picked Edge to win the ladder match.

But we could go a few ways now...

Edge could still win... although i think thats been highly affected by his actions.

Christian could pull out the win, and finally get into his hump as a top star. Beating the other 5, 3 who have been World Champ and 1 who is close.. would really help him.

Shelton has 0% chance of winning. Ditto for Kane.

Benoit could either job to Triple H this week (Which i guess is better then a PPV job, cuz we all know Triple H will get the job back). Or he could beat Triple H this week, leading to a title match down the road after TRiple H regains the title from Batista, only to get demolished by H on PPV.

Jericho could win only if WWE was going to finally capitalize on his overness before he may go. Although with him opening the chance of him leaving in 8 months or wahtever... I doubt he'll win.

I'm going to go with Edge or Christian as the winner though. To solidfy one of them as the top dogs.

I think It woudl be smart to have Christian win.

But I dont think he will, nor do I think the WWE would do the angle properly. So, Id rather just Benoit or Edge win.

For some reason, I think it's more of a coincidence than a conscious effort by the booking team. It's a Raw main event and will likely have a screwjob ending.

Then again, if you remember the HHHatred at its heaviest, it seemed like HHH was *deliberately* picking feuds with guys who were up a big win on him, and getting them back. The Kane loss in the NecropHHHilia angle was predicted ahead of time on the basis that Kane was the last guy to "owe" HHH a job.

However, coincidence or conspiracy, it doesn't seem like WWE has any reason to keep Benoit strong going into Mania, nor is it likely they have any major plans for him for a while.

I hate to say it, but Triple H has more of a right to win this match heading into Mania's title match than Benoit does.

It is ridiculous for them to even book this match though. Ever since Triple H's reign of terror began in 2000, Benoit is the only guy to have the upperhand on Triple H in a feud. But by booking this match a year to the DAY Benoit was declared the man, it's like they're trying to highlight the fact that even after all he accomplished in 2004, here he is back in a meaningless midcard match while Triple H is still the champ. Win or loss, this was a horrible move.

The Ladder Match dosn not have the IC belt on the line.

But it should.

Then again, I doubt there's enough room on Mania for all the titles to be defended.

No, it should not.

The winner gets a World Title Shot. If you put the IC Title on the line, its an after thought. They should have had Hassen beat Shelton 3 weeks ago. It wasn't defended last year, so its not a big deal. Plus the US title won't be defended either.

Don't worry, they'll find a way to shove a US title match and maybe the tag titles onto the show. They did last year with the tags in a effort to get more guys a Mania paycheck.

US Title could easily just end up Jordan/Booker, they could hot shot the wwe tags to bashams to defend against haas/holly or returning dudz and sadly le rez by default against regal/tajiri.

I'd rather just see all three of those titles not be bothered and just do a battle royal to give the other 20 people on the rosters a bone. Royals are Mania staples anyways.

Benoit never had the upper hand in a feud with HHH. He has yet to beat him cleanly one on one ONCE. Not even once. If he's had the upper hand than why did HHH utterly destroy him at Survivor Series?

Shelton has 0% chance of winning. Ditto for Kane.

You base this off what?

WWE is pushing Shelton was their future, and have shown he will be a future World Champion. And the best way to get him into the main event level is for him to win this best.

I could understand you saying he wont win, but 0% chance of winning is just plain stupid.

Relative to Jericho, Kane, Nash, Steiner, Foley, Van Dam, Goldberg, Booker T, Eugene, and Orton, on paper in terms of win/loss, Benoit probably fared most decently against Triple H. None of Benoit's wins were considered flukes and in all of the three most high-profile matches (Mania, Backlash, Iron Man), Benoit went over. Now I totally understand why you object to my comment because through it all, Triple H has been portrayed as dominant. But looking at the record alone and compare it to how others have done, Benoit has probably gotten as much of a hand on Triple H than anyone else (perhaps except Taker at Mania 17).

If Benjamin wins, then they have to have Benoit challenge him for the IC Belt, maybe with the World Title shot at stake. They have to make something off Benoit making Benjamin tap out last week, or it'll have achieved nothing other than having the IC Champion tap out for no apparent reason other than just to do it.

I think if Benjamin ended up causing Benoit to lose the ladder match, it would be a great way to kick of a feud between the two. Like, Benjamin has nothing to lose in the ladder match, because he's already the IC champ, while if Benoit loses it may take another 20 years for him to get another chance to take the title and he simply doesn't have that time left. So if Benjamin sacrifices himself to cost Benoit the match, it would be really cool incentive for Benoit to want to kick Benjamins ass.

On the following Raw:

*Benoit comes out to the ring*

Benoit: BENJAAAAAAAAMIIIIIN!!!!!!!!! SHELDON BENJAAAAAAAMIIIIN!!! You have some explaining to do, so get your ass down here and meet me face to face.

*Benjamin comes out*

Benoit: Last night at Wrestlemania, you cost me the ladder match. You cost me an opportunity to once again become World Champion. Your goal last night was not to get that opportunity, it was to stop me from getting it. And I want to know WHY?

Benjamin: Well, Chris. A few weeks ago on RAW you and I had a match and you made me tap out. Since then, I've been wanting to get another shot in the ring with you. To prove to myself that I am just as good, if not better than you. But if you won that match, and then won the title, I wouldn't get that shot. I don't have any interests in the world title Chris, not right now anyways. I'm the Intercontinental Champion - the same belt that Bret Hart, Mr Perfect, Shawn Michaels, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage, and even yourself have had, and I plan on being a better champion than them, and a better champion than you. And to do that, I definitely need to face the best competition possible, and I certainly need to beat you.

Benoit: Oh, so that's it. You're looking to "test" yourself.

Benjamin: Yeah, I-

Benoit: WELL THIS IS NOT A TEST! THIS IS REAL! THIS IS MY LIFE! THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR ALMOST 20 DAMN YEARS! And you think you can just play around with MY career, that you can dictate MY FATE?! Be careful what you wish for Benjamin, because now you have my full and undivided attention. You want to prove yourself, to prove that you can beat me? Well, I will prove you wrong!

*Benoit drops the mic*

*Benjamin drops his mic*

*They go head to head*

Benjamin: Is that so?

Benoit: YEAH.

*Benjamin pushes Benoit*

*Security runs in and pulls them apart before anything can get started*

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kane win. He's the biggest guy in the match, and since Batista is winning the main event they might want to stick him in against Kane for his first feud. They have had some good reactions going at it in battle royals. They stuck Kane in against Benoit, they also seem to use him when the need a stop-gap title threat to put over the champion.

Mostly True.

Personally, I think there's a good chance Benoit's going over to Smackdown (can't he legally go over there any time he wants to anyway?) after Mania sometime. They got that Raw in Calgary and I read somewhere that they were going to have Smackdown in Edmonton the folowing day like they usually do.

What I'd like to see is Benoit win the title shot at Mania but be forced over to Smackdown. Benoit would than win the Smackdown title from Bradshaw in Edmonton and after months of legal tape would win the Raw title at Summerslam. Now having combined the titles he is free to defend them against any wrestler from either roster.

I think one of the better wrestlers will win the six-way, if only to make Batista look as good as possible in a high profile match.

I could see Kane winning because in Vince's mind, beating a big guy in a bad match means more than "looking Good" against a smaller wrestler. I think Kane is going over and will be fed to Batista at Backlash.
