Barrett Ruud, ILB Nebraska.

 

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 248

40 Time: 4.68

 

Strenghts: Rudd causes havoc in the middle of the field, and has the ability to change the game and create turnovers. He has very good size and with the exception of his speed is the prototype ILB. He’s a good leader that will be called upon, as he’s the only linebacker that returned to the Huskers with significant experience.

 

Weaknesses: Speed is a glaring weakness with Barrett’s game. He isn’t the fastest player on the field, but at the same time he isn’t the slowest. He does play well and uses angles to his advantage.

 

Overall Analysis: Barrett Ruud is an excellent all-around player who appears to have everything it takes to develop into a solid NFL middle linebacker. Ruud was an immediate contributor as a true freshman at Nebraska, recording 49 tackles while serving in a backup role. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore, and recorded 149 tackles during his junior season. Rudd has been outstanding during his senior season, recording 134 tackles (17 tackles for loss) during his team’s first 10 games. Ruud has an excellent all-around package of skills for a middle linebacker. He has ideal size, speed and strength. He shows good range on the football field, can take on blockers and effectively work his way through traffic. And Ruud is not simply a run-stuffing middle linebacker; he also shows good awareness and instincts when playing in pass coverage. Ruud appeared carry a second round value when entering the 2004 season, but the top performance he has enjoyed as a senior may have earned him round one status.

I'm not sure anyone involved in this would take Clarett period and giving them Clarett as a punishment just defeats the whole purpose of this draft anyway because it means someone had a throwaway pick instead of choosing someone they really needed.

I don't see the big deal of placing him on a team where the person misses their pick. I mean they get 12hrs. so if they miss out then they get Clarrett.

 

I didn't realise our draft picks were actually going to make the team we draft them on. I didn't realise this draft had that much significence behind it.

If they miss their 12 hours, they should be subject to the same penalty that a real NFL team would get... getting skipped by any and all teams who would come after them that submit a pick before they put their pick in.

 

 

It's not that Clarett would actually be on a team as much as doing a throwaway pick for the sake of being a fucking asshole skews the picks of everyone else following that choice.

 

If, for example, you missed your first pick, it would have been bullshit for us to give you Clarett as the last pick of the first round because no one in their right mind would have picked him there. It would have meant that Channing Crowder would have still been available, which would have impacted subsequent choices by all other teams. If Crowder was still available, I'm pretty sure that Tampa or Oakland would have taken him over Blackstock or Ruud, which has a trickle-down effect throughout the draft of affecting choices made by teams.

Adam Terry, Tackle, Syracuse

 

 

6'8, 320, unofficial 40 time of 5.22 seconds

 

QUICK STRENGTHS: quickness, size, hand work

QUICK WEAKNESSES: agility

NFL COMPARISONS: Tall, quick and athletic tackle who can play the left side similar to John Tait.

 

Analysis:

 

Terry has a lot of ability and the skills to be a top lineman at the NFL level. Off the bat, he certainly passes the eye test. He is tall even for a lineman and has long arms. He shows very quick feet in pass protection. He comes off the ball well, sets up quickly and even though he has a lot of height, he plays low and has good knee bend. He is rarely beaten to the outside by speed rushers. He has good punch and is able to keep defensive linemen off balance and away from him with good hand work. However, he doesn't always show top flight agility. While he his quick, he lacks great balance and appears awkward when having to redirect. As a run blocker, he is a good seal blocker and also has decent enough strength to be an effective straight ahead blocker. He shows great aggressiveness and plays until the whistle. He will need to continue to improve his strength, which is good now, but he has the frame to add bulk and strength. He has shown decent foot speed and ability to get out into the open field and make blocks on screens.

For the Saints, specifically, the offensive line has been deteriorating ever since perennial Pro Bowl choices Willie Roaf and Kyle Turley left. Their offense has all of the right personnel in the skill positions, with the possible exception of QB Aaron Brooks, so the O-line is one area on that side of the ball that could use some work.

 

Terry is a better pass blocker than run blocker at this point, so this should hopefully give Aaron Brooks a little more protection and the confidence NOT to make stupid decisions.

 

Once Terry learns more about run blocking, his size should help open some holes for Deuce to exploit, which should hopefully get them on the board early and not rely on the long-ball to get back into games.

Also, the procedure has not been a problem the last two years and is not going to change now so feel free to give that conversation a rest as it will not change. Again it defeats the purpose of doing a mock draft if the order gets completely changed up. The skipping if you miss the time limit works in the pro draft because it never comes up. In this draft we would skip 8 people a round and end up with an order nothing like the real draft.

To keep on topic with the thread, Pinjockey, how exactly do you decide who to draft for the team that doesn't have a draft pick? Do you actually consider what they need or do you take the next highest rated player?

Typically I'll just go to a site (usually NFLDraftCountdown) and go to the team needs section and find a couple players ranked in those positions. I'll also adjust if something needs it, like the Chicago pick they had RB listed above OT, but in a previous post AoO mentioned that Jones was at least solid and I knew their line sucked so I changed the order a little.
