Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 29, 2005 Anyone else addicted to Rome? This is an awesome game, from the scale and control of the battles, to the great control you have on building your empire. the Realistic factions of the age you can play with, plus the great misc units, like the Britanna Head throwers, the War Dogs, or the Flaming pigs! Are there more of the House of Juli on here? though Im playing the campaign with the greek states
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2005 I played it through with the Julii, and found it was pretty fun. The only problem I had was keeping solvent. My cities would start losing money and they'd never be able to recover. All my production and trading areas would be at their highest point, but it wouldn't make much difference. I'll be honest, I let the computer sim the battles. I've heard that some of the general's speeches before the battles are hilarious though. I'll probably just go through one time and mess around with the battle system just to listen to them.

Rome wasn't nice to conquored villages so if anyone started rioting just leave come back reconquer the town and crucify everyone.. Personally in my game unless the townwill be an active artery in a military standpoint I put my towns on automanage, and the negatives disappear
mister foozel 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2005 what kind of battle engine does it use: turn-based or real-time? i am not a big fan of any type of turn based game
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 29, 2005 what kind of battle engine does it use: turn-based or real-time? i am not a big fan of any type of turn based game Its real time, the only turn is the very beginning where you are allowed to put your army into formation...you can have upwards of 10,000 troops in a single battle of various types. Once you click start battle then its just you and the opponent going head to head. no turns

The Ill One 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2005 It's a hell of a fun game on the computer. During the campaigns I'd usually stimulate some of the fights but I found just the "exhibition" battles were the best.

Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 31, 2005 Another great thing about Rome is the relative freedom you have in your actions, the Diplomacy that could get you out of sticky situations with a more militarly superior enemy at one time, using spies to check out size and strength of armies on the move or garrison strength. And historically speaking its an awesome way to learn roman history. When the year rolls by where Mount Edna erupts that turn the Vocano on Sicily is in fact erupting while you play. El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2005 I've played the previous two (Shogun and Medieval) , but Medieval didn't catch my interest like Shogun did. Rome, however, is awesome. My only gripe is that some of the minor factions are non-playable..

My only gripe is that some of the minor factions are non-playable.. Yea that does seem to be a similar gripe of mine. I suppose the smaller factions that you can't play with wouldn't even have controllable cities for itself to even build up. Though I think you can play them at least in the battle mode. El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2005 Is it just me, or is the AI city management just incredibly stupid? Even when I set it to "Save", they still make me bleed money..by producing lots of units, and useless buildings. (Not every city has to have all the latest military producing buildings..) I hope this patch fixes it.

I hope this patch fixes it. if you mean the automanager one of the problems I have is that they let you produce anything military or economic, you have to switch off the auto manage, put what you want in the que and reclick manage and you won't lose to much in the negatives

Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Delete centers it on the unit you've got selected. What also works is if you have a mouse with a button in the middle of the two clickers you use that to roll down and up it Zooms in and out
The Ill One 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Well I'll be damned, thank you. This thread got me playing this game more frequently (the campaign mostly) and damn are assassins useful.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 I hate fighting against Elephants. They devestate my army most of the time.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 One trick I've found is to mass spearmen (about four units deep), and nail the elephants with flaming arrows. Chariots are little bastards, too. Some of my favorite units have to be Wardogs..useful, and unless the trainers die, they regenerate after battle..
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 (edited) Just thought I'd add a couple things. frogbeastegg's Guide to Rome: Total War: Here An awesome, in-depth guide to the game. Eighty something pages that cover just about everything you can think of, from basic operations to strategy to game mechanics. Really, really helps. Total War Center: Here Various stuff, but handy especially for the mods. Grab this to have all factions playable in the Imperial Campaign, complete with maps, descriptions, and leader portraits. El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 It unlocks everything, immediately.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 It unlocks everything, immediately. awesome, see im so dumb when it comes to stuff like downloads and additions like this, I'd be too timid to screw the game up trying to download something into it. would love to see how these new factions play, but I know now this additions have been out there for a while and people used them before. I heard that playing the SPQR the game crashes when it comes down to the Senate instructions, since the SPQR are the senate or at least its military force. is that true? El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2005 Yeah. I'm guessing it's because the game won't let you give yourself missions, policy, and such..

muzz 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2005 I've been a fan of the series since Shogun. World of Warcraft has sorta taken up my time, but Rome is brilliant. I'd like to see Medieval get the Rome treatment, since I loved the epic scale of Medieval.
