AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Aw come on, they're not THAT bad. Fine stuff like Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts were worth waiting through a bunch of crap for. I agree on KH, but they screwed that up to some extent with Chain of Memories. Of course, the camera system in KH needs a little work. Tactics Advance was ass. Nobody cared about Drakengard. Samurai Legend Musashi is vastly inferior to That Game on PS1 That Was Packed in With the FFVIII Demo. Dawn of Souls is, like, a 3rd generation port. I hear Sword of Mana is ok. Crystal Chronicles? Meh. I hear about lots of love for the Front Mission games, though. By and large, their RPG releases range from average to above average, while most of their non-RPG games are poor. Dirge of Cerebus could surprise, but I'm expecting mediocre at best. Considering how big they are, they put out surprisingly few new releases most of the time. I do indeed hope that the guy who took over changes things (that wasn't a joke, right?).
Anya 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Square has sucked since FF X-2.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 Aw come on, they're not THAT bad. Fine stuff like Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts were worth waiting through a bunch of crap for. How come they've never done a Mario Vs. Sonic game? I wasn't serious, I was poking fun at Anya's comment of how she wants Nintendo to go the way of Sega. You see, I'm funny that way. Jingus 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 Don't mock Anyanka. For one thing , he... uh, she... uh... Anya, what's your gender? I've forgotten, got mentally lazy and pictured Emma Caulfield saying all your posts out loud. Disrupted the train of thought good & proper there. But still, Square has sucked since FF X-2. this proves that there's always hope.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 Anya's a girl. No word on whether or not she resembles Emma Caulfield, however I once met a girl who did. Great times. UYI
Jingus 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 I thought so, but hey, it is a wrestling board, so you do have to ask.
Anya 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2005 I wish I looked like Emma. That would be great. However I have been told I resemble Buffy writer Jane Espenson. The best thing about Kingdom Hearts is David Boreanaz doing the voice of Squall. What perfect casting.... Since 1997 I've REALLY liked Square's FF games and just kinda thought their other stuff was ok, but lately everything they've done is lame. FF CC was ok but I could never get anyone to play multiplayer with me and the whole connectivity thing is lame. FFTA is horrible. It's the only FF game I ever quit playing. Dawn of Souls is ok, but I have no interest in it since I have FF Origins. FF X-2 was really funny and probably my favorite game of that year, but it didn't really match the quality of the other main FF games. XI was...not FF. It wasn't even a "FF MMORPG". It's just a regular MMORPG with the FF name. The game seemed really good, but I just don't have the time to play a MMORPG, especially one that requires so much grouping. My boyfriend is really into WOW though, so I might upgrade my PC and get into that. This is really the first time I've ever thought about how weak Square has been. Never really given it any thought. They just slowly fell off the radar to me. I have like no hype for XII. I hope it's really good. I've barely even got hyped over the new FF VII products. Taker666 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2005 Mario all the way no question. Some of Sonic's games are cool. but know one is as big of a Icon as Mario. although some of Mario's games are kinda crap. anyone remember Mario's Missing. the fuck was that?
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2005 although some of Mario's games are kinda crap. anyone remember Mario's Missing. the fuck was that? Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine were produced by another software company to try to be educational games. They thought they could have the same success as the Carmen Sandiego games. They were wrong.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2005 According to official U.S market data compiled by the NPD Group, Sega passed Nintendo in 1992 to become the #1 vendor on the U.S. videogame market. Sega finished 1992 with a 55% market share, whereas Nintendo limped into second place with 45% - a far cry from the 92% that they had held a mere two years before. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2005 I never owned a Genesis during its prime years. I was always a Mario/Nintendo fan. The first Sega system I owned was the Dreamcast, with Sonic Adventure, which I loved. The Sonic games that I did play, besides 3 and Knuckles, I always felt were overrated. You could either run really fast through the levels and collect nothing, whih was no fun, or moveslowly and collect things, which wasn't much fun. However, I got the Sonic Mega Collection Plus a couple weeks ago, and I realized that the Sonic 2D platformers are pretty fun. Mario's games still top them in every way, but they're fun. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 I had gotten Sonic Advance 3 at a pawn ship recently. I'll give it another zone or so and post my thoughts on it. It's hard to overstate how important Sonic was to Sega in the 16-bit days. Both 1 and 2 were superb games.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 I have to wonder... Would Sonic 3 have been better recieved if it had been like it was originally planned (at least I'm guessing on this) as Sonic 3 & Knuckles was? I THINK that's how Sonic 3 was originally intended to be...the one whole game like that.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 It was a critical success, anyway. And Sonic 3 didn't really do poorly, it just didn't do quite as fantastic as the first two games did. However, S&K looked kind of lame coming out about the same time as DKC. Still, Knux in Sonic 2 is still very cool, and I'm glad they were able to do it. Plus, I played a good bit of the Knux in Sonic 1 ROM, and its darn fun as well.
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 Sonic 3 is my favorite in that series and I played it more then most Marios.
Guest Leelee Report post Posted November 6, 2005 Sonic and Mario aren't similar games, so it's a tough comparison... Sonic is more action oriented, and Mario more adventure. I like Sonic better, but probably just because Sega was my first system.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2005 Most people I've spoken to who own games from the Sonic Advance series usually say it is fun, but a little too easy. I'd go out of my way to seek it out if Sonic Rush wasn't coming out this month.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 In Sonic Advance 3, there's qute a few new gadgets and so forth and huge levels. However, the multiple paths don't seem to be in here. The controll is way too tight, so you can't pick up speed as easily or move as fast it seems. Plus, Knuckles sucks. I just got him and he has NO glide--just this stupid looking flying headbutt. He CAN'T climb walls either. Oh, but he can punch. Big whoop. Each zone has a main hub where you can select the act (I think you only need to complete 2/3 to proceed to the boss, though) in any order, play a minigame when available, switch characters or zones, kind of like Kirby. Level design could be better. It has several of those annoying areas where you could collide into an enemy or land on spikes, then lose your rings through no fault of your own. The classic Sonic games allowed you to basically never lose your rings if you were good enough--not quite the case here. Oh, and you can find Chao hidden in the levels, which is annoying since they're so big and backtrapping is a pain in the BUTT. I have no idea what finding them nets you. Probably Shadow the Hedgehog blows hard. It's due out in less than a week, but there's no playable demo, in-depth previews or reviews available.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 Shit... UYI, you just reminded me that I need Sonic Rush. I just got 8 new games, and now I need that, Mario Kart DS, a PS2 system, and SD vs. Raw. I can't afford all those, though... I'm going to have to bite the bullet and reluctantly do some trade ins. I'm not normally a huge Sonic fan as was stated, but the demo of Rush at E3 blew me away. Still, wanting all that other stuff and having just bought Sonic Mega Collection Plus, I'll probably wait on it.
