Give credit to Burnitz. He had two strikes on him and was up there against a guy he'd never gotten a hit against. Considering his free-swinging ways and his luck against Capuano, it was a blessing he nudge the ball into left field. Too bad they couldn't add in another one or two after.

They're probably people who wear homemade "In Dusty We Trusty" t-shirts, though.

It's like they are calling the game from another state. Course I wasn't a huge fan of Chip. He was tolerable but I got tired of the little smug bastard. But Steve Stone was awesome and his book about Harry is pure gold.

Typically, it'd be Cubs luck for the guy who's killed them the most to come up in such a tight situation. Then to get Jenkins on a full count. I was sure he was about to walk in the tying run. Now for the love of god, let's get some runs...

I say one game, the entire line-up just bunts for the first three innings. You know, to see if maybe that'll work. And just so this doesn't become a Cubs thread, the Phillies lead the Cards 2-1 in the Bottom of the second.

Booing guys already is pushing it, but it's frustrating, so I'm not surprised. Aramis sure has been striking out on the extreme outside pitches the last three games.

It seems like every game the Cubs are winning and they just let it slip through their fingers in the dumbest ways possible. Today, a man couldn't even pick up a damn ball. I'm frustrated. I love the Cubs and I'm sure they will straighten it out, but it seems like the ninth inning has become a nightmare to Cubs fans.

TWELVE walks and two hit batters by that immaculate Cubs pitching staff today. Good thing Dusty took Nomar out of the game, too.

Four games in and everything that shot this team in the foot last year has reared its ugly head. No true closer. Can't score without the longball. Can't score runners on third with less than two outs. Can't win one-run games. Can't win extra-inning games. I understand that they haven't played a pushover team so far, but what a contrast between what we saw opening day and what we've seen since. The Brewers had almost 30 baserunners today. That is inexcusable, especially when 12 come from the walk. If this team's relying on the warm weather to get it going, they're in trouble. After all, when is the postseason played? Not exactly a warm time of year. I think the Hawkins experiment is over. He's there by default, but hopefully they can go out at the deadline and pick up something resembling a good closer. Hawkins is good in the set-up role and utterly lacking of confidence in the closer's spot. Not so much a heart-breaking loss today. My heart for Cubs baseball is still pretty numb from the meltdown last season. It's just more frustrating than anything. I'm not calling for drastic measures, but early in the going, it looks like nothing's changed since last season. I hope for the sanity of myself and all the Cubs faithful, this isn't the case.

If you answered B, you must be Charlie Manuel so please explain that rational. And another thing, top of the ninth with a righty closer up. He is not willing to play the left-right matchup by pinch hitting Utley for Bell but he is willing to pinch hit Kenny Lofton for Jason Michaels who was having the best day at the plate of anyone? I am really not encouraged about Manuel so far this year.
