Pitcher Sasaki dumps wife for TV starlet

 

Bullpen ace pitcher Kazuhiro Sasaki, the Yokohama BayStars' veteran closer who abandoned a stellar career with the Seattle Mariners because he missed his family, has divorced his wife, the pitcher told the press by fax.

 

Sasaki, 37, one of the top closers in Japanese baseball history, said on Monday through his management agency that he had decided to divorce his wife after they grew apart. Sasaki has begun to live with TV star Kanako Enomoto.

 

"Since I transferred to the Seattle Mariners, my wife and I grew apart after missing each other. This is a decision I made after reflecting on my life," the fax message said. "As part of my new life, I have teamed up with Ms. Enomoto and have now begun living with her."

 

The pitcher submitted a notice of divorce to a local government on March 18.

 

Sasaki added that he would try his best on the field so that he would live up to expectations of baseball fans. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, April 5, 2005)
