WM 21 Buyrate

Recommended Posts

Not that I didnt think the ppv would do a decent number, but I didnt see it coming anywhere near 1,000,000 buys. At this rate, it might end up over that hump since I know the prelim estimates are 99 percent below the actual number by the time all is said and done when you calculate replays and such.

Guess all of that money spent in advertising worked! Now the big question is what exactly drew this large buyrate?

I dont think there was anybody specific but im sure alot of people didnt think a Batistia/HHH & JBL/Cena headlined PPV would draw so well.

I think it was a case of WWE actually promoting the CARD and not just the event.

Seeing as how Ratings go up a good amount for Batista and how this was Batista's first singles main event, I think it's a safe bet to say Batista is a success so far.

What was the highest buyrate a Mania has ever gotten?

EDIT - Nevermind, got answered elsewhere. I was wrong anyway.

What if they draw equally? Then would we have to assume HBK/Angle was the bigger draw?

Or how about this novel concept...maybe the WHOLE SHOW was a draw. Maybe fans actually saw a card that was good and appealing enough to order it.

Yeah you're probably right. But no one would order a show with a crap ass main event. People order shows with what the main event is in mind, not what the mid-card is.

Damn. Didn't see this one coming. Must have been the desire to see super heel JBL finally get his due.

I honestly get a kick out of the fact that JBL/Cena & Batista/HHH outdrew Eddy/Angle and Benoit/HBK/Triple H.

This year's title match builds were better and more appealing then WMXX's title match main events were and the special attraction inter-brand matches this year was more appealing then WMXX's offerings.

This shows the fans dont care if Benoit and Eddy are the best wrestlers in the world, they wanted more compelling storylines.

Nash/Triple H HIAC grew a shockingly good buyrate...

the "people dont buy crappy ass main events" doesnt ring true with that instance and Im sure it's not the only exception.

Let be fair, Cena/JBL rematch will have a tough time matching the buys that Batista/Triple H rematch gets, due to the fact that some "Hogan" guy is on the undercard.

Also, interesting that 50-dollar 4-hour WM outdrew 50-dollar 5-hour WM.

well WMXXI simply had a more appealing card.

The WMXX title matches were horribly built; while the WMXXI matches while less appealing for us work-rate obsessed smarks were treated better and the fans clearly brought into those angles more.

The WMXX Raw Vs Smackdown matches both consisted of horrible cartoonish build or NO build @ all.

While WMXXI's raw/smackdown matches, had overall great build in the case of Angle/Shawn and decent yet meaningful build in the Orton/Taker.

The "Special" attraction matches of Eddy/Rey and Money In The Bank had more to offer then Christian/Jericho and Cena/TBS.

WMXXI also had the special attraction of Hogan, Piper and Austin. WMXX basically had Mick Foley and The Rock who come and go every 6 months for their meaningless spots.

WMXXI did offer a stinker that at least going into it could have had comedic merit, while WMXX offered two meaningless tag team fatal four way matches.

The only advantage WMXX really had over WMXXI were the woman's matches and no one cares about woman's matches and Trish/Christy was likely more appealing the Molly/Victoria was anyways.

So i cant really see how WMXXI outdrawing WMXX is a surprise.

Crappy ass main events as in Spike Dudley vs. Garrison Cade. Not two big name guys.

Backlash is bound for atleast 500,000 then right? I mean come on, it's HHH vs Batista II. This feud has obviously been that hot.

/sarcasm

I must admit I'm surprised it got more than last years WM. Figured it would be just below or just above last years, some I am curious if those vintages managed to grab the extra buys.

I'm not surprised Batista & Cena are draws, but I am surprised that it was this high when last year had the return of the Undertaker and the Brock/Goldberg matches. Maybe people didn't order it until the last minute and by that point they knew about Brock & Goldberg leaving, or maybe putting Shawn the Buyrate-Killer in the main event feud was a worst idea than we thought. Either that or Cena really is the next megastar and the buyrates were inflated as a result of him getting his first major title shot as a face. If that is the case, JBL certainly deserves a lot of credit as well for being the best heel champion in years.

Considering this show was built around Batista, HHH, Orton, Undertaker, Cena, JBL, Angle, and HBK this bodes pretty well for WWE's "OVW Generation"

I'd say the drawing power of WM XXI probably went like this:

Austin on Piper's Pit

Batista v Triple H

The Wrestlemania name

Kurt Angle v Shawn Michaels

John Cena v Bradshaw

getting buys.

Put the WrestleMania name first and Cena/Bradshaw (because everyone I know who likes wrestling was like "JBL's FINALLY GONNA GET IT, MAN!") above Piper's Pit and I agree.

I think Orton v. Taker was also a draw, because for the first time EVER... Taker actually could of gotten defated this year... people wnated to see that happen.

In all honesty, Taker/Orton was the draw for me, I couldn't order cause I was in Cancun, but that was the draw was for me. Then Taker won and I skipped all replays.
