WWE SmackDown Match Listings

Recommended Posts

MNM are Mercury (Joey Matthews) and Nitro (Johnny Nitro), with Melina (Melina Perez(?)) as their manager. They work some sort of 'Hollywood' inspired gimmick. Red carpet rolled out before they enter, papparazzi photographing them as they walk to the ring. They name drop all those hip, trendy young kids like Paris Hilton as if they know them.

As for whever they're good or not...they got some good reviews from their OVW work. I really didn't dig the match with Eddie and Rey last week though.

I don't get the logic in Eddie as heel again. I imagine it was a toss-up between turning Eddie heel or turning Rey heel, and that the connection that Rey has with the younger audience and the merchandise he sells was too important to lose.

However, if RVD hadn't been injured it seems obvious that they would have kept RVD & Rey as tag champions, given us the 'friendly rivalry' match between Rey and RVD at Wrestlemania, then lead to the far-better option of an RVD heel turn (finally!) as opposed to the heel turn that Eddie has gotten.

Fittingly enough, this isn't the first time RVD has managed to get himself injured at a particularly inopportune moment either.

Does anyone else think that it would be a great idea for Rey Mysterio to go undefeated for the next 5 or 6 months and get pushed to the main event? He's the only face on Smackdown that I'm really into at all.

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio had a long backstage segment. Eddie told Rey that the only thing he cared about more the wrestling business was his familia - including Rey. Before Rey could respond, Chavo intervened and told Eddie that Rey wasn't his familia, Chavo is. They will always be Guerreros. Eddie told Chavo off, saying that Rey was more of a brother to him than his own brother, Rey was always there for the tag etc. Rey also told Chavo to get lost. Eddie and Rey made up, with Rey saying he knew Eddie's heart was 100% in the right place.

(2) MNM beat Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. This was a long one, and gave visuals that will probably be repeated on Smackdown for several weeks to come. During a melee brawl, Eddie was knocked to the outside. He stayed down for a while and then staggered away from ringside. Meanwhile, Rey fought off both of MNM. As Rey set up for the 619, he noticed Eddie leaving. The distraction let MNM regain the advantage. Eddie looked conflicted, but returned to the corner as the crowd chanted for him. The cameras kept going back to Eddie in the corner, he looked tortured. But he wouldn't make the tag to Rey, or come in to help him. The crowd began to chant "Eddie sucks!" MNM kept looking at Eddie expecting him to intervene, but he never did, and eventually Mercury and Nitro were too much for Rey and they pinned him. After the match, Guerrero just stayed in the corner as they continued to beat on Rey. After the tag champs left, Latino Heat looked at Rey for a while and then slowly walked away, as Mysterio - down and hurt outside the ring - reached out for him. Rey was crying as Eddie left.

Ok, this gives me hope. Though I'm against the turn, its been done very weel in parts, so it COULD work. I hope/think that they're going to make this a long running angle throughout the summer, eventually leading to Eddie siding with Rey, or re-uniting. That could work. They MYST know, surely, that they can't keep Eddie a heel. It would be cool if they did a story with Eddie slowly turning heel over time. Growing out the mullet, jet black hair, Latino Heat theme, all that stuff. Then a swerve at the last minute, with Eddie staying loyal to Rey.

I don't either, but Meltzer's been reporting for months that it's something Guerrero wants to do and has been pushing for it.

It hasn't even been made 100% clear if Eddie is the complete heel. He wouldnt tag in and blah blah.. but it seems he stayed out there. They could turn Eddie in to a sympathetic role and explain his actions, while Rey would snap and turn heel.

This little fued seems VERY similar to on, Strike Force 2k5 fued.

All I know is, the Eddie/Rey stuff is by far the most interesting story going on in the WWE for me. The conflicting emotions, the "family" betrayals, and it's all made better by the fact that we *know* they're legit close friends, as opposed to the WWE throwing 2 guys together and claiming they're friends. Both guys interfering in each other's singles matches, Eddie covering up 2 weeks ago when Rey had the chair, the stuff at the end of the tag match last week, Chavo & Carlito stirring the pot. We've been watching these guys for the last ~10 years (or so), so there's a real emotional attachment to them that can't be manufactured by the inept WWE writing team. Just great, great stuff.

I'd be all for it.
