I saw the movie last night and I think anybody who watches these movies and looks for things to nitpick needs to get a life. I didn't find anything terrible or cheesy about it. It was a very good movie.

By the way, I thought that might be Greedo or one of his relatives in Ep. 1.  Glad someone clarified that.

Greedo was only in the deleted scene, as far as I know. The Greedo-esque kid in TPM is a character named Wald, but I don't know if they're related. Wald and Greedo are seen together in the deleted scene (Wald is the friend who warns Greedo).

Nitpicking is something you only start doing after you've seen it 3 or 4 times...which only seems to reinforce your "get a life" thesis.

speaking of nitpicks--

I just watched ROTJ again tonight, and I noticed something- at the end, when Anakin joins the Force, and they replaced Shaw with Hayden, Hayden is wearing traditional Jedi robes- something he never wore in the movie. He always wore robes with a darker color to them., not the kind like Obi-Wan wore.

Earlier this thread I posed the question as to why Anakin ditched the traditional Jedi garb for his black outfit in ROTS, but no one provided a sufficient answer

Maybe the force has a strict dress code.

"If your wearing that mate, your not getting in"

He never wore traditional Jedi clothing. AOTC had him in the same clothes as ROTS, people.

Anakin did wear the more traditional Jedi robes at the end of "The Phantom Menace", though.

Anakin wore the traditional robes at the end of TPM.

The discrepancy will probably be corrected for the next release of the original trilogy. Maybe they'll even add in Anakin's scar.

Now that I think about it, it seems like Vader is just a character, a pawn, manipulated by Sidious. Kinda takes away from the badass feel of him in the original trilogy.

Anyone know how Sidious embraced the Dark Side? Did he do it in a thirst for more power, or do you think he was manipulated too?

My money would be on the former.

anyone go watch "A New Hope" again after seeing RotS?

The other prequels didn't do much at all in enhancing the OT (except for me thinking 'geez these old movies are so much better than the prequels'), but i found episode III really made ANH an interesting experience.

Alec Guiness rules, and he has all these shifty faces which (even if they weren't intended by Lucas) bring extra meaning. I could almost picture a pissed off hayden behind the Vader mask, and what I once though was corny and contrived form the other prequels (oh so anakin AND threepio are from tatooine, how lame they always end up going back there) actually seems dramatically fitting after RotS, like destiny is forcing everybody back to the same spot for a collision after the universal madness in RotS.

Also, R2 really seems like he knows his shit. As i recall only THreepio had his memory wiped from RotS.

However the Obi-Wan/Vader reunion in ANH seems oddly mellow after how crazy the shit went down in RotS. You think they'd be spitting hatred at each other.

I think its interesting that Leia becomes such a prominent figure in the Rebellion and her being the sister kind of jibes better now.

I wonder if Obi-Wan stayed on tatooine the whole time. Like, did he ever take vacations? Chill with Yoda on Dagobah for a week every year, go fishing in that swamp?

One thing they never got to explaining, why Dagobah? whats so special about that place and whats the deal with the dark side cave (i know the EU had an explanation for that but i dont really care about that). Actually it'd be kind of cool if it turned out Yoda's people came from a swamp-planet, which would explain why he stays in dagobah.

I think the cave was part of why he went there, I think the taint of the dark side made it easier for him to keep from being detected.

I know of the EU explanation, but I think he picks Dagobah just because it is so secluded. Who would ever go to Dagobah? And even if you wanted to head there, there is no modern technology and it is sheltered by heavy cloud cover (Luke crashes his X-Wing there on his first trip). Basically he's there because it is safe.

More of an explantion on the 'dark side taint' mentioned earlier. It happened when he defeated a band of rogue jedi, one of which who was extremely skilled in the Dark Side. They fought for something like three days (second hand source, take it as you will) before he finally killed him in that swamp with the cave. The lasting aura is powerful enough to drowned out his own considerable good aura, making it impossible to find him.

And I agree: Alec Guinness nailed that role because all his reactions and such are exactly what you'd expect after watching ROTS.

You all were talking about Star Wars fans nitpicking the movies earlier, but I got one better for you. Fans that will wathc these movies a million times, read the books, compare and contrast and nitpick and bitch and moan about how terrible the adaptaion was, or how bad the acting was- all while saying that they are the greatest movies ever.

I am, of course, talking about Harry Potter fans. Now, I am a Potter fan myself, but I can just sit back and take all of the differences between the books and movies in stride, while people over at the Mugglenet forums had a four page thread blasting how Hermione's dress got changed from BLUE to PINK in the upcomming movie.

Makes us Star Wars fans seem almost normal in comparison.

Hmmm...I coulda sworn I read that the cave was tainted with the dark side from somethint that happened long before Yoda ever got there...dang, now I gotta go look it up, blah

On Portman's part, no. On everyone else's, yes, considering the script they were given.

You're absolutely right. I've been watching parts of the original trilogy ever since I read the ROTSith novelization, and it gives the original trilogy a added depth.

So is the acting any better in the new film?

I rewatched the scene last night from ROTJedi when Luke tells Leia she's his sister. The acting in ROTSith was at about this level, but the acting in AOTC was much worse.

Anytime someone blames the script on the bad acting in these movies, I point to Alec Guiness, Christopher Lee, Liam Neeson, Ian McDairmid, Harrison Ford, Peter Cushing, and Jame Earl Jones as people who still managed to give convincing performances given bad material. A good actor can make anything sound real.

I thought the Dark Side Cave on Dagobath was Yoda fucking with Luke to get him mentally straight.

I think all 3 of those things are factors.

Since we never see Yoda land of Dagobah in ROTSith, perhaps there's a story about how he discovered the place we'll see at some point in the future (the upcoming TV show perhaps?). Given how Lucas left it intentionally open at the end of ROTSith that there might still be Jedi left alive, I can only imagine how many stories can still be told (Vader hunting down additional Jedi, Yoda looking for a place to hide, the formation of the Rebel Alliance, the possibilities are endless).

Actually, the script wasn't that bad at all.

It depends. The script is fine for advancing the action and pacing, etc. I think too many people confuse script with the actual words spoken (although that is a good deal too). The only really clunker scenes were maybe a couple with Anakin/Padme, stuff like "You are so beautiful," "It's because I'm so in love," "No it's because I'm so in love with you." In terms of internal consistency and pace it works fine though.

The "you are so beautiful" scene was a neccesary evil that was only to show them together in a happy moment before all the DRAMA~! about her dying went down.

Considering how often married women try to trick their husbands into insulting them (i.e. "does this make me look fat" or "do you think my boobs are too small"), the scene was actually fairly realistic.

You know, Padme dying in this movie is a BIG contradiction to what Leia told Luke on Endor. Leia said that her mother died when she was very young, but she still had memories of her. That's the one thought that kept running through my mind when I saw her death scene.

I always thought that Leia was talking about Bail Organa's wife, who she thought was her mother all that time.

Something that always made me curious is why did Leia get such an active role in the rebellion if she was supposed to be hidden from Vader? She practically put herself out there to be found while Luke was stuck on Tatooine doing nothing. Which brings me to my next pondering, why was it that Vader knew for a fact that Luke was his son, but he was face to face with Leia and never realized who she was in A New Hope and in Empire when he saw her on Bespin?

Keep in mind I still haven't seen Episode III and some of that may be answered.

Well, one thing would be the fact that she didn't use the Skywalker name.

Second, Anakin was never told he had twins. So for all he knows, he only had one child...and when he learned about Luke, he didn't even think that there might be...(hang on)

"There is...another...Sky...walker..."

Sorry, had to do that.

Also, the fact that she focused more on doing politics she didn't even think that she might have special powers...whereas Luke had all the time in the world between Harvest and such to have a slight feeling that he may have such powers.

...anyone else want to add to that?
