Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 If you can look past the flaws at the bigger picture, more power to you. I thought the plot of the second film was good, but didn't like the way it was executed. In Phantom Menace, I get bored from the flight from Naboo until the pod race. Neither movie was so bad I couldn't watch them a few more times, though. So, did Qui Gon make it into the movie? It'd be kind of stupid not include him after we heard his voice in Ep. 2 and the fact that it needed to explain how Yoda and Obi-Wan learned that skill. I read some reports that he wasn't. He wasn't. But they explained around his absence, if that makes sense. My big problem withg the movie- Grievous. He was a cool chaacter and all, but they relied to much on people seeing more of him and learning more about him through the Clone Wars cartoon and the novels. If you hadn't seen the cartoons or read the books, he just seemed like such a throw-away character. It would have been better to keep Dookoo around through the end of the movie, rather than kill him off, then kill off Grievous like 30 minutes later.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Oh God, with Grievous they require you to know him from the Clone Wars cartoons huh? Remember my rant a few pages back about how the cartoons are a separate thing from the actual movies and the viewer shouldn't HAVE to bone up on all this stuff just to watch the movie (a la the Animatrix). That's the thing, thouhg. You don't HAVE to watch the cartoon, or read the books, but if you don't he has even less value than Darth Maul. Just cool looking cannon fodder. Plus, if you watched the cartoon, you would know why he was coughing and wheezing in the movie. If you didn't, than you just think he's sick or something. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 When Padme was passed out on the runway floor after Kenobi had sawed off Anakin's apendages I would've really dug seeing Obi-Wan whip out the lightsabre and contemplate killing off Padme and aborting the demon children within her womb because he was afraid of what they would become. haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 The theatre I was at told everyone to leave their lightsabers in their cars, and if you took one into the theatre, you WOULD NOT BE SEEING STAR WARS TONIGHT. There was this one little bastard running around (whos name was actually Anakin) whacking random people in the shins with his lightsaber, while his fat-fuck worthless mother just sat there and let him do it. People need to have better control over their kids. One highlight of waiting in line though was this one guy who apparently had some sort of formal sword training (or was just a really big nerd who watches way too much Star Wars), taking on random people in plastic lightsaber fights, and looking like he really knew what he was doing. ragingfear79 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 somthing like that happened at my theather, there was this lil kid that was running around with the force fx lightsabers and whacked me hard in the back of the head and when i turn around his mom gave me a face, i was like wtf lady control your kid. I though the totally fucked up with the Grievous character, he was such a bad ass in the cartoon, I thought it sucked that they killed him off so easily, he barely put up a fight. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 As I said before I'm not obsessed enough with Star Wars stuff to watch hours upon hours of cartoons just so I can find out why Grievous is coughing. Just wondering but why are all these little kids out at MIDNIGHT showings anyway? Hell when I went to the ROTK midnight showing it was mostly people 18-30 or so, it wasn't till seeing it again that weekend that the kids were around. ragingfear79 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 i guess no babysitters to take care of the kids after 12 am? either way 99% of them passed out during the movie and the one i had next to me was so into the movie he didnt make peep.

Why would Obi-Won think that? Anakin was turned by Palpatine, it's not genetic. It's not like Rosemary's Baby.
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 so the movie is good because of the action sequences...okay figured that much...how is the actual PLOT...how is the acting...same as the first two episodes (McGregor, McDiarmid, and Lee are the only good actors)? Hayden really stepped up his performance in this film.
Garth 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Cinema I saw it in today was pretty deserted, it was an 11:30 am showing though so I guess not many people had desire enough to either miss school/college or work to come see it at that time. I have no doubt that this evenings showings will be rammed. It was nice pretty much having the place to ourselves, got a nice seat upgrade out of the equation, as well as having no annoying kids around. The film was really enjoyable, and after having watched Episodes I & II yesterday I felt a great sense of satisfaction and closure from the films. I also was quite moved by the end of the film. Theres not more I feel I could of asked of ROTS. I'm already looking forward to going and seeing it again sometime soon.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 I know I liked it, I just need to figure out how much I liked it. The acting was greatly improved, with the few times dialogue was expected to carry what was going on doing at least a decent job. Hayden looks like he was cast with this one in mind, not AOTC. Natalie falls kinda flat, but probably has all of 45 lines in the whole thing. Ewan looks like he's having a blast and his lines and delivery make the transition from stuffy Obi-Wan in Episode II to witty and sarcastic in ANH an easy one. The only thing that bugged me was how much stuff seemed there just to get it out of the way, like the memory wipe, or the aside with Yoda telling Obi-Wan about Qui-Gon. It was also kinda weird to see the Emperor himself come to Mustafar and supervise Vader's recovery. The CGI work is seriously amazing. There's SO MUCH going on in every frame, it feels like. I dunno, I'll elaborate later, but for now it gets **** out of ***** to be safe.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Hayden really seemed evil in this one. In Episode II when he tried to act evil or pissed off(the scene with the sand people) he just came across as a whiny little kid that was upset. In this one he was truly evil and you felt it from him. CBright7831 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Here are my ratings for the matches: Bonus Match: R2D2 vs. The Super Battle Droids Good bonus match to start off things. I don't know if you would call it a classic, but it sure as hell was funny. The Battle Droids try to beat up R2 but R2 uses fuel to drench the droids in, and then uses his rocket packs to finish them off. Not really a good match, but a fun match. Comedic gold. **1/2 WINNER: R2D2 Handicap Match: Count Dooku vs. Anakin/Obi Wan Obi Wan is taken out quickly by Dooku, so it's now a one on one match between the two. After a little bit of taunting, Anakin hits his finisher and ends the match. ***1/2 WINNER: Anakin Obi Wan Kenobi vs. General Grievous A good back and forth match. They start with lightsabers which Obi Wan wins and then they go to hand to hand which Grievous pretty much dominates with Obi Wan getting in little offense. During the fight, Grievous dropped a foreign object (gun) and he's about tofinish Obi Wan off, Obi Wan grabs the foreign object and uses it to his advantage, thus taking the victory. **** WINNER: Obi Wan Kenobi. Handicap/Elimination Match: Palpatine vs. Mace Windu/Kit Fisto/and two jobbers The match starts off rather quickly with the two jobbers getting ousted. Kit Fisto holds on a little bit longer but also gets eliminated. So, it's already down to Palpatine vs. Mace Windu. Backstage politics between these two have come to this. Mace seems to have the upperhand as the glass in the Chancellor's chambor gets broken, and is about to score to the victory when Anakin runs in. Anakin and Windu argue for a moment and then Mace goes the victory but Anakin interferes and turns heel by cutting off Mace's hands. Palaptine then finishes Mace off with his finisher - the force lightning. Anakin is a full fledged heel. **** (the fourth * is for the heel turn which was done well) WINNER: Palpatine The Clonetroopers vs. Ki-Adi Mundi/Aayla Secura/Plo Koon The newly heel turned Clonetroopers DOMINATED 99.9% of the time. Ki-Adi is the only one who defends himself and he eventually goes down Aayla gets hit frombehind, and then the heel Clonetroopers then continue to shoot her. Plo Koon ges blown out of the air by the troopers. It just shows how powerful the troopers really are even if it was almost a complete squash. **** (the fourth * is for the emotional value as you feel for the betrayed Jedi) WINNER: The Clonetroopers Double Main Event: No Holds Barred/Fall Counts Anywhere Match: Palpatine vs. Yoda Before the match even begins, Palpatine tries to sic his Royal guards on Yoda, to no avail. The match starts off in Palpatines office below the Senate chamber where Palpatine goes for the early victory by using the force lightning, and of course, Yoda recovers. The fight quickly escalates to the Senate Chamber. They go all over the place. Palpatine tries to cheat by using the Senate discs, but Yoda dodges them. It seems Yoda is about to overpower Palptine, so Palps goes for the force lightning. But Yoda once again over powers Palpatine and both go down. Yoda, fearing for the clonetroopers to intervene soon, retreats while Palpatine is left hanging to the edge of his Senate pod. WINNER: No contest (although I would give the edge to Yoda) ****1/2 (I would give it five, but i wanted a clear winner) The Duel: Anakin vs. Obi Wan Kenobi Anakin begins things by force choking his pregnant wife (like a true heel), and then fight starts. The fight goes back and forth and goes all over the place. From the landing bay to the main control room to the rivers of the molten lava. It is spetacular. Obi Wan finally finishes off Anakin by cutting off an arm and leg which causes Anakin to land in the hot sandy edge of the volcanic river, which disfigures him. This is worse than any bladejob mind you, Anakin has been fucked up. Anakin tells Obi Wan he hates him, and Obi Wan walks away after his victory taking Anakin's lightsaber with him. WINNER: Obi Wan Kenobi ***** Overall, great show from top to bottom although I wish we would have got to see The Jedi Temple Battle Royal but overall not a bad show. This show will be talked about by smarks for years and years to come.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Absolutely loved it, It was so crazy in my theater. We had a full on show with about 10 stormtrooper, Boba Fett (kick ass costume) two royal guards (again they went all out) a clone tropper, 2 or 3 fighter pilots the emperor and one of the most realistic Vaders outside the movie i have ever seen. the guys where from the 501st legion down in Miami. Also I have to give props to my girl. Lets just say she doesnt like Star Wars very much and she took almost 5 hours of it, from the standing in line and dealing with all the kids to watching the movie and not complaining one bit. I love that girl she so is the one is not even funny. Anyways like som1 said before Lucas Redeemed himself has, a great movie this is. What theatre were you at, dude? I went to the Dolphin 19 Cinemas, it wasn't nearly as crazy except for the lightsaber fights during the wait. Go watch Episode II. Owen is the son of the guy (can't remember his name... I wanna say something beginning with a "C") that Shmi Skywalker remarried with. He also becomes the uncle of Luke in ANH. I just watched Episode II this past Sunday, actually, in preparation for Ep.III last night. I remember now who he is; I just wasn't aware of his connection to Luke in ANH. I really have quite the foggy memory of the OT, apparently.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 19, 2005 The pic Kotz has in his sig makes me grin and want to see the movie again, since that's the beginning to the most awesome scenes in it, at least for me. The more time I'm giving the film time, the less I worry about the flaws and nitpicking I had with it (Mainly, that it felt like there should have been a little more buildup with some of the things like the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight, Windu and the Jedi Council not trusting Anakin.. If I wrote the story, I would have the Jedi Council blindly trust Anakin because of the prophecy- which, I might add, added a very nice touch in the movie when Yoda said it may have been misread..) and the more I enjoy it. While Episode I sucked bantha fodder, in how I remember the OT, Episode IV wasn't all that impressive; it was just kinda there, but entertaining. It wasn't until V and IV that things picked up. Maybe Lucas just sucks at beginning a story, but is excellent at concluding them?

ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 Just got back from the theater seeing it a second time... I've said it before to someone on MSN...Grevious almost seems like a Chain Smoker in ROTS. Oh, and question: Is anyone here besides me planning on, when it's out on DVD, watching all 6 Star Wars movies in a row in chronological order (as in, I, then II, then III, and so on)?
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2005 I don't honestly think these films would work real well watching from 1-6. It just kills the surprises. How exciting is Empire really going to be if you watch Ep. III and already know Vader is Luke's dad? And ditto Jedi, knowing Leia is his sister? The films won't work quite the same way, thus I recommend watching the originals, then the newer films. Dama, I watched Phantom Menace the other day and it's the worst one by far. It sucks. There are so many embarrassing, stereotypical characters that could have NEVER been done if not for them being monsters or animations: 1. Jar Jar. Uncle Tom of the Star Wars universe, a blatant black stereotype. I think we all know how bad he sucks, and he's in a LOT of this film. Oh and he's also cowardly and worthless. 2. The Trade Federation. Some of the worst heels in cinema history. Two lame Japanese caricatures, who are actually described by Qui Gon as being cowards....and these are your main heels of the film???? I suppose you could say Darth Maul is the heel here but he doesn't really have much screen time. 3. Fundamental script problems. We know Anakin is a slave, and he has to race for his freedom. Knowing he is going to be Vader, what is our incentive to root for him here? We know he'll turn heel and wreck the galaxy, so it's kinda hard to say "Go Ani!" Also the central drama of the film (Trade Federation taking over Naboo so that Palpatine can manipulate Padme into having her get rid of the Chancellor and he can take over) is underdeveloped and not compelling. 4. Qui Gon Jin. Probably the weakest Jedi character in the series. He goes against the Jedi council in training Anakin (ooops), he can't even do the mind trick on the Mexican Fly dude, and he gets bitchslapped and owned by Darth Maul. The guy is a jobber, and he's our central adult protagonist, since Obi Wan gets less screen time here. I haven't covered everything but I think that gives a decent illustration of Ep. 1's problems.
