Papacita 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 I was watching the NBA playoffs yesterday, and don't you know how during halftime they'll show highlights and stuff from other games going around the league, show you the various scores, stats or what have you. Well I saw this and began to wonder why WWE doesn't do similar things for house shows. I remember a while back, there was a lot of talk about doing things generate house show interest, and this resulted in them running a few angles like the Booker/Christian I-C Title change back in 03. I think something like this could accomplish that. I was thinking like every week, they could take like maybe 5 minutes to do some kinda Live event update (sort of like the old Slam Jams and Control Centers from back in the day) where they'd show highlights from select matches, significant storyline developments that occurred on the house show (which I think would be cool because by handling some storyline developments on house shows some weeks, you open up the door for some of the lower card guys to move up from time to time and get some things going on the main shows from time to time), and even hype future house show matches to try get people interested in coming out. Ideally, these segments would also display things like win-loss records and title rankings, but I know WWE's never been too big on things like this, so...you know. Anyway, what do you think? Could this work or not?
Carnival 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 It could work to an extent. I think they would benefit from showing house show highlights and covering important angles or developments. Obviously they would have to exclude some things...like Batista vs Trips at house shows. On the other hand WWE would have to change how they run house shows. They couldn't have the same matches over and over again like they do now. It would add an element of realism...since they are trying to target a younger audience lately(i.e. after burn/ experience) I think it would be a good idea. They kinda do hype house shows from time to time by showing highlights and fan interviews on RAW. Since WWE sees house shows as practice runs, i don't see them doing this anytime soon. Jingus 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 Why not? They've done it before, it worked.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 They only did the Xian-Booker switch because of a legit back injury that Booker sustained in midmatch.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 Why not? They've done it before, it worked. Funny isn't it? They rehash every friggin thing else, but ignore doing house show the way of the 80's when it did big business. Of course, I'm sure someone's told Vince this and he got angry(Trish comes to mind). I bet they just feel it's too much work. They half-assed it with the Rumble qualification matches this year. Sure, some things are test runs for future storylines, but it's not like they only have one house show a month or something. It can be done. The wrestlers would also have to work with coming up with different finishes around the circuit like the days of Backlund's reign. It's just laziness imo. If they were doing big business like the attitude era in 1999-2000 I can see the reason for not changing, but they aren't. The only excuse is laziness. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 They only did the Xian-Booker switch because of a legit back injury that Booker sustained in midmatch. Even before that, there have been plans for a title to change hands on the house show. Before William Regal had his stomach virus two years ago, there was a plan for he and Lance Storm to drop the tag titles on a house show.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 I guess everyone forgot the house show tag title change this year for RAW Maybe that's why they don't bother
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 I guess everyone forgot the house show tag title change this year for RAW Maybe that's why they don't bother It didn't help that it got mentioned once, and then was never talked about again. Next time they do a house show title change, they need to get camcorder footage of it. Actually show the match in question, rather than a couple of still pictures. Fro 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 They need to shoot an angle, promo, or match every weekend at a house show for one of the A-Shows... it's not going to break the bank for them to send a camera on tour with the rest of the equipment. Seriously, their house show business would go up a lot of people thought what they saw mattered as far as TV storylines go, or maybe they saw a title change. Alro 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 They were showing footage of house shows on RAW around October 2003. I remember seeing footage of the house show I was at where Test broke his foot. I don't see any reason they can't show house show footage. If they show highlights on RAW of a local show that you skipped, I would think that would make you want to go to the next house show in your area.

Promoter 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 I miss the days of seeing house show matches from Boston Garden, Madison Square Garden, and Maple Leaf Garden. Showing clips is not enough imo.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2005 Indeed. They could air a house show match each week on the WWE Experience. I'd actually watch the show then. They could give a decent chunk of time to a couple midcarders who can work quality matches, or maybe put a midcard guy against a main eventer or upper carder and allow them to have a decent showing before losing. The possibilities are limitless.
