ROH to run same day as ECW One Night Stand in NYC

Recommended Posts

Credit: Mike Johnson,PWInsider.com

Ring of Honor will run a Sunday afternoon matinee event at the Supper Club in New York City on 6/12 with a 1:30 PM belltime, the same date as the ECW One Night Stand PPV event. Obviously the idea is to present their product to the fans converging on NYC for the ECW PPV by giving them something to do before the PPV that evening.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale this Saturday at the promotion's Manhattan, New York debut at the New Yorker Hotel. The promotion actually first attempted to book the New Yorker (which is located right next door to the Hammerstein Ballroom, where the PPV is scheduled) but the venue was booked. So fans will have to head over to West 47th and 8th Avenue, a 2 minute ride on the subway from the PPV.

Edit: Also

ROH will have major TV exposure in New York on Friday morning. You can see Austin Aries, Lacey, Prince Nana and others in action on WB 11's morning news show at 6:15, 7:15 and 8:15 a.m. on Friday, May 6th live outdoors right on 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue where the ROH ring will no doubt stop traffic

I like wrestling and all, but one 3 hour show is enough. 6 hours of wrestling would be overkill.

OH COME ON, its live wrestling, its hard to get tired of that. lol

Smart business move there. Both are gonna benefit big time.

While I like the idea of running the same day, the WWE show will not benifit from this at all. They'll have long sold out by then.

No; I think they can benifit because it'll allow the closest proximity that WWE and ROH has ever been with each other. Obviously ROH would draw it's usual fanbase anyways(the rohbots are the modern deadheads) and with the ecw fans converging to NYC for the weekend, it wouldn't be too hard to draw them to see another show at a reduced price. That is how roh would benifit, but how does WWE benifit? simple, finally they can if they really wanted to honestly evaluate that roster, send a agent down the street. You can assure Mick Foley will be @ the ECW show and will at least be at the roh show, if he appears on the show is another issue. Dreamer prolly would attend the ROH show but considering that he is RUNNING the ecw ppv, you can cross him out. You can assume that Paul London will be on hand to see the roh show. The potential for ROH running the show in VERY close proximity before the big ecw show is huge and WWE can, if they wanted to, capitlize on this.

ROH is really on a huge roll right now, the shows are getting better and getting new markets including NYC and reports say the carolinas aren't to far away either. They are appearing on TV shows, though Local but it's a steady movement.

After seeing the ticket prices for the ECW show, I think it is a good move by ROH. First off the 2700 or so tickets for Hammerstein will go on the first day, even with ticket prices of $400, $250, and $150. ROH is the more affordable alternative, although the ECW show is once in a lifetime, so it's up to the consumer. ROH is also smart in that it is not running at the same time, it's running before the ECW show, so if you are a hardcore wrestling fan, you could probrably go to both.
