So far only a behind-the-scenes featurette has been announced, but seeing as it's a Robert Rodriguez DVD, I think we can expect a lot more, including a 10 minute film/cooking school and some other stuff.

Did they really need a new Gladiator DVD?  Or Jaws for that matter.  Wasn't that released a few years back?

Dames

I could see maybe the Gladiator one but I have seen 2-3 versions of Jaws on DVD and from one to another, they all seem relatively similar.

Sin City

August 16, 2005

So far only a behind-the-scenes featurette has been announced, but seeing as it's a Robert Rodriguez DVD, I think we can expect a lot more, including a 10 minute film/cooking school and some other stuff.

The latest reports I've read indicate that it's going to be a barebones release, with a Special Edition to come later down the road. Also, the barebones version is going to be available in four different slipcovers.

There's been three versions of Jaws on DVD.

1. 25th Anniversary Edition (Dolby Digital)

2. 25th Anniversary Edition (DTS)

3. 30th Anniversary Edition

From what I can tell, the picture quality is about the same. The new 30th Anniversary Edition contains both Dolby Digital and DTS, as well as the original mono soundtrack. It also contains the full two-hour documentary (25th AE had a shortened one-hour version), a 60-page commemorative photo book, and a few other extras not found in the 25th AE. However, the 30th AE doesn't have some extras that the 25th AE had, such as the trailer. The only thing that kinda bugs me is that Universal could have easily done things right the first time around. It doesn't bother me that much though, because (1) it's been five years since the last release, (2) there's enough new material to justify a purchase, and (3) the 30th AE carries a reasonable price (around $15).

The new Gladiator DVD seems reasonable as well. It's been five years since Gladiator was first released on DVD. The new Extended Edition is a three-disc set with a ton of new extras. In my opinion, the extended version of the film and the new 200-minute documentary alone are worth the double-dip.

Why not just release the SE now?? I really want to buy Sin City and I don't want to wait, like I have been waiting for the Kill Bill SEs.

I'm guessing the SE isn't completely finished yet. The barebones release is probably meant to hold over people who don't want to wait for a SE.

You might as well pick up the current versions of Kill Bill. The SE versions still haven't been officially announced, so there's no telling when they will be released. The current versions can usually be found for around $10 each, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you're a huge fan of the movies.
