TSM's Top 30 Games!

Recommended Posts

Also there are tons of people who hate Halo, and quite frankly Halo should have made the top 30 now seeing the top fifty list.

I think about it this way, certain games like Mega Man 2 and 3, which do you pick? Or if you're a sports fan, which Madden do you pick?

Games like Zelda and Final Fantasy don't really have this problem since they're very distinct.

I chose Mega Man 3 because it was both the most challenging and the most fun game for me in the series.

I also listed ESPN NFL 2K5 since it tops all previous entries in the 2K series, and I chose the Xbox version due to voice chat support and the fluidity of broadband play on Xbox Live.

I really like MM3, and it was close to making the list, but my point was it's VERY similar to MM 2-6.

And MM1 is by far the most challenging. That game was made to make children cry.

It all comes down to personal preference, since most Mega Man games are indeed very similar. When trying to decide on a Mega Man game to list, I played through 1-7 on the Anniversary Collection, and MM3 remained the top choice for me.

Probably MKT ranking in a number seven.

For starters, sure.

Eh, like Anya really cares anyway, but since she asked...

FFVII as 1 is the biggest complaint.

I feel no MKs really belong on it. Ditto KI. At least she didn't put War Gods in after all, though.

Doom, RE, DKC all have vastly superior sequels (or in Doom's case, games in the genre that totally trump it). Yet, you say you don't place that much on historical significance as you do on how they stand up today. Out of three DKC's, I'd only pick DKC2 (DKC3 was getting a bit too heavily into the "collect junk" phase, IMO).

Side scrolling beat 'em ups are, to me, generally way too shallow and repetitive to deserve a spot. So I wouldn't pick Final Fight/SoR2, even though SoR2 is still a damn fine game for the genre. That's why I picked Guardian Heroes over any of the well-known BEUs.

Despite those, I thought the rest were solid choices.

I expected a better performance out of the non-Castletroid CVs. I'm not too upset about it, because I personally thought the control is a huge issue against most of them, Simon's Quest has an awful translation and a strange game design, and Lament is a bizarre concoction with unclear direction and lots of dead playtime. However, I've been meaning to play CV3, which lots of people feel is the best of the series. Legacy of Darkness on N64 is winning me over, too (only above average, but does a lot of things well Lament totally botched).

With a few minor complaints, it's not a bad list. #1 almost always is a devisive choice on these lists.

Before revisions, I was considering listing REmake and RE4 in addition to the ones I did include, RE2 and Code; Veronica.

I do agree on the Mortal Kombat games, though. They haven't withstood the test of time well, although Trilogy probably was the pinnacle of the series.

And please, never mention War Gods again. Worst Christmas present ever.

Looks like it, but the revised list still looks like it's wrong.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is on the list at #28. It received two votes - Anya (#6) and Jer (#18).

GTA III isn't on the list, but it received three votes - me (#1), Matt Young (#29), and Anya (#25).

By my calculations, SSF2T and GTA III received an equal score of 38 points. According to Flik's tiebreaker rule, GTA III should have "beaten" SSF2T because GTA III received a #1 spot on someone's list.

Maybe he accidentally counted my vote for SFTII?

Your vote wasn't for SSFT2? You mean there was actually a Street Fighter 2 Turbo and a Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo? Damn there are way too many street fighters.

This doesn't matter because FFX had three votes - me (#4), Anya (#20), and Jer (#19), which should give it 50 points. So it deserves to be on the list way ahead of those two. ;)

Yeah.

Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Champion Edition, Turbo, Super, Super Turbo, and Hyper. That's not counting the haxxored versions like Rainbow Edition and so on.
