AboveAverage484 Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 This is the offspring of the "Heaven and Hell" topic, vote or die, fools.
The Czech Republic Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 Of course it's Ozzy. Ozzy is Sabbath. Dio is "LIKE A RAINBOW, IN THE DARK!!!!!"
Slayer Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 Ian Gillan... ...no, wait! Glenn Hughes! ...no, wait! Fuck!

Your Paragon of Virtue Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 This poll seems to be missing an option....
Guest Eric the Eagle Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 There is no doubt; Ozzy IS Black Sabbath. Any incarnation without is simply a band with the same name. That being said, I vastly prefer Dio as a singer.
cabbageboy Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I'm actually shocked that Dio has as much support as he does. The guy was on maybe 2 studio albums. I listened to Heaven and Hell and was basically bored with it after the title song, the 2nd half is nothing really critical to track down. And who the hell voted for the OTHER category? Haha! I guess someone must love the ill fated Ian Gillan era, complete with the Stonehenge live set that was parodied mercilessly in Spinal Tap.
Guest Thrashist Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 When people talk about Ozzy versus Dio, it goes way beyond just whether the Sabbath albums with one vocalist were musically better than Sabbath albums with the other. There are several factors. For one, if people look at their careers, Dio's solo work, time with Sabbath, and perhaps most importantly, time with Rainbow may outweigh Ozzy's career. Which ties into the next point, in terms of songwriting, Butler and Iommi were really the ones who wrote the first seven albums, while Dio was more involved in the songwriting process and possibly rejuvenated a legendary band stuck in a rut for two albums. Many also feel Dio plain out has a better voice, while many feel Ozzy, despite his shortcomings, has just been fortunate enough to be surrounded by great musicians his entire career. There's so much more. Also if we're talking strictly their careers in Sabbath, many could also say that the positives Dio's vocals brought to the band outweighed what Ozzy brought to the band, EVEN IF the first five are superior to Dio's three. I don't necessarily agree with all of that, as I wrote that from the perspective of someone who is 100% pro-Dio, but I'm just saying that it goes way beyond simply "oMG WaR piGs geTs raDio PlaY dIo is An UgLy Elf LOL!!"
