DMann2003 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2005 Okay, I was at FYE earlier today and they had Batman and Batman Returns marked to 7.99 apiece. Now neither DVD has ANY extras (not even a trailer) but I like the first 2 enough I thought I'll get them. I get up to the clerk and he tells me in addition to being on sale for 7.99, all the Batman related films have 6 dollar mail in rebates, which brings the final cost to 1.99. This purchase just became irrefusable. Thought I'd give everyone a heads up. Now if only Warners would put together some 2-disc SE of these films.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2005 I'm surprised they have not done the buy this dvd and get a free ticket to the new movie gimmick yet.
spman 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2005 FYE is the king of the rebates, but unless the difference in price is really huge, I don't both, waiting 5 weeks to get a check for six dollars isn't worth cutting up my box. I'd just as soon go to Wal-Mart and get the same DVD for the same price I'd pay at FYE minus the rebate.

Guest SpiderFan Report post Posted May 26, 2005 The latest Wizard magazine says that Warner is working on special editions of all the Batman films (even the Schumacher ones) that should be released this fall to coincide with the release of Batman Begins on DVD. AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken saved Returns from being a pile of shit. Penguins with rocket launchers? I like how people bash Schumacher's movies for being over the top while praising Burton's "vision" of Batman.

But the last half-hour of Returns was as stupid as anything from Schumacher's Batflicks.
AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 I actually like Batman and Robin more than any of Burton's two films simply because it's Arnold doing one liners. I don't even think of the four as Batman films.

DMann2003 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 I think Batman Returns is one of Tim Burton's most personal films and Daniel Waters screenplay is witty and satirical. If given the time I can expound on why I think this film is so great.

That's an...interesting...way of evaluating films you got there. Well I'd actually give each of the four films a 0/10 because none of them were entertaining. But if you forced me to pick one Batman film to watch, I'd watch Batman and Robin just for Arnold's cheesy one liners. Burton's films are just awful and not entertaining at all. I really don't see how people can sit through the first two Batman movies. edit: In my opinion, Batman TAS is the best interpretation of Batman outside of the comics and graphic novels. It even has the best music. My posts make me sound like a Burton/Elfman hater but I really can't understand why people like Burton movies or Elfman's music. The most positive thing people say about Burton's movies is that he creates atmosphere, and that's about it. Elfman's themes are always very loud and over the top. Batman was actually one of my favorite movies as a kid. Then I actually sat down and watched Batman 1989 in its entirety a couple years ago. It's just plain boring. I don't get what all the praise is about. Most fans of the movie probably just have clouded memories of a supposed "great" film.

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 I BOW to Batman Forever. Val Kilmer is still my favorite Batman. He manages to pull off the suave ladies man gimmick, and still come off as a total badass. I never bought for a second that George fucking Clooney could kick anyones ass. Michael Keaton is a great actor, but again, I couldnt buy him as a badass, or someone to be afraid of. Val Kilmer had this aura about him that screamed "I could kill you 30 different ways with a toenail, and then go fuck your girlfriend". Val, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones and even Chris O'Donnell made for a very enjoyable movie. All a DVD of that movie needs is a really good widescreen transfer, 5.1 surround, and all the music videos from the movie. Make it happen Warner!

Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 My fave of the Batmans is both Returns and Forever; Robin was okay for cheesy, lame humor, but that is it. Returns, I loved, for its amazing character development of all four of the characters. Watch for the villains, not Batman. Catwoman, Walken, and Penguin. What more couldst thou wish? Oh, fine, a believable Batman. Well, can't have it all. Forever, also for its characters. Plus, Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey simply 0wned that movie, the latter especially, infusing the movie with a wickedly demented humor.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 one of the rumors for the new Special Edition was a longer director's cut of Forever, looks good.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Found from Tim Burton Collective which, in turn, is credited from DarkHorizons.com: The first two films are finished. Tim Burton re-recorded his commentary tracks with a "guest." Disc One of both will include remastered pictures and sound with commentary. Disc 2 has trailers, TV Spots, vintage footage and a new featurette on the film. The first film also gets a feature length documentary. Joel recorded commentary tracks for the theatrical edition of 'Batman Forever' along with Batman & Robin. Afterwards Joel decided to ask WB to recut 'Forever' back to something that resembles his original edit. WB agreed and gave him a budget to do so. Joel is currently in Burbank working on some alterations to the film. It's expected the original version will be there with the new cut to be done with 'seamless branching' technology. The extended cut is expected to run around 2 hrs 35 mins. Schumacher is going to add as much footage as possible back in. Also some of the effects were not finished in the early workprint and they need to be finished and he has been given a small budget to work with for that, all new effects will be digital. The original Batman is expected to hit shelves in May (just prior to the release of Batman Begins in theaters) and a box set of all four films is planned for October or November, more than likely available to tie in with the release of Begins on DVD. AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Returns, I loved, for its amazing character development of all four of the characters. Watch for the villains, not Batman. That's exactly my complaint about the four "Batman" movies. If you just forget that they're supposed to be about Batman, and just enjoy the villains' performances, then they're pretty good. But I don't see how they're really Batman movies. Begins looks like it's going to change that by truly being about Batman and not the villains. edit: Oh yeah, in the first Batman movie, the public witnessed the Joker murder somebody...and then they let him go host a parade? That's on the same level as rocket launching penguins for me.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 I think 'Returns' could be all about Batman; he doesn't need to be present in every scene for us to see that. We see him conducting business {with Max}, and how he struggles with a relationship. Yet its not with some random woman, but Selena Kyle aka Catwoman. The movie, in a sense, could be entirely focused on those two. All the events surrounding them, including her former boss's liason with Penguin, help keep them apart. As Catwoman, she got involved in the mess of villains by trying to destroy Max. Through Max, she's connected to Penguin, in turn, Batman's enemy. Very, very twisted sort of love-triangle, if'n ya think about it.
