So Interleague continues this week and this might be the most interesting week the Red Sox have ever had since it started since they start a World Series rematch with the Cardinals tonight and then make their first ever visit to Wrigley on Friday. Plus, both teams are playing very well right now, so these should be some good games.

Well, he's what, 41 or 42 now? Maybe age and/or injuries are finally starting to catch up to him. Being on a slumping Yankees team probably isn't helping much either.

He was on the decline in 2003 before he bounce backed last year, so it doesn't surprise me that much that he has fallen this far. I thought the Yankees would get one good year out of him, and that's about it, but it looks like I was off by a little bit.

Well, great game last night, as the Brewers narrowly beat the Yankees. Doug Davis held the Yanks to three runs, and Derrick Turnbow gets the save. Junior Spivey had the game winning solo homer. Hopefully they can keep it up and take the series from the slumping Yanks.

Toronto's Glenallen Hill, in one of the strangest of them all, sustaining cuts and scrapes on his feet, knees and arm during a violent nightmare about spiders. Hill popped out of bed, bumped into a wall and scrambled up a staircase - all without waking up.

There were some questionable managerial calls in the O's game last night.

 

Julio should not have been in the game after giving up a walk, a single, and a home run all with no outs. There doesn't seem to be any real good reason for leaving Julio in when Baldwin and Todd Williams were still avaliable in the bullpen (BJ Ryan also). Instead, he leaves Julio in and he gives up the go ahead home run.

 

Then in the top of ninth, they get the lead off batter on and bring in Calzado (who has speed) in to pinch run with the top of the order coming up. It seems like a no-brainer to bunt Calzado over to second and then take your cchances on your second and third place batters to drive him in with a single. Instead, he brings in Roberts (who hasn't played in seven games) into pinch hit for Nivar. They get Roberts out (ending his 20 game hit streak) and the runner is still on first. It would have made more sense to me if they let Nivar stay in the game and bunt Calzado over to the second. If Mazilli still wanted to use Roberts, he could have had him pinch hit for Gomez in the two hole which would given Roberts (or Gomez) and Matos a chance to bring the winning run in from second. Instead, they pretty much wasted the lead off base runner.

 

It is just odd because Mazilli has shown a willingness to sacrafice bunt before, but here, in a situaion where it makes a lor of sense, he does nothing.
