RedJed 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 I guess my question is if WWE will archive this from the live feed or if they will take out stuff when they put it up later tonight (I assume?). This sounds fucking fantastic and I'm still really liking the way the ECW ppv has been built up.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 If there is a next ECW event, its planned for November... So it's probably November 2 Remember. Dames <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think WWE would do that. An ECW event competing with Survivor Series? I like ECW being back and even *I* think that would be a bad idea for WWE. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FYI, there's more than one Sunday in November. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> BUUUT...still having another PPV the same month as their MAJOR PPV of that month would hurt the MAJOR PPV. Just my thought on the subject.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Does WWE ever edit the shows before they archive the Byte This shows?
RedJed 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 If not, this might be first time for it if Heyman is off shooting on Stephanie, etc. Thats what I'm pissed about as I bet it either wont be archived or edited, but maybe not since it's "just the internet". Sounds like a must see though or at least hear - if Vince is letting Dreamer and Heyman with full control of the ppv on Sunday it could be interesting to say the least - with a possibility rolling into Monday... GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 http://sports.ign.com/articles/623/623677p1.html ECW, broken necks, and second chances. by Jon Robinson June 8, 2005 - The Innovator of Violence. If ECW is your church, Tommy Dreamer is your messiah. He broke his neck for you, his back for you, was set on fire for you. But his most painful moment never happened in the ring. It was when he was told ECW was shutting down. "When it went out of business, it was like a death. I was beyond depressed, I was unemployed, I was bankrupt. It was just a horrible time," says Dreamer, now revitalized and raging once again, kendo stick in hand, as he leads his crew of ECW renegades back into action this Sunday on pay-pre-view. The pay-per-view is called One Night Stand, but the way the crowd has popped for Dreamer, the Dudleyz, and The Sandman, I have a feeling that this one night only event could turn into something even bigger. Dare to dream. IGN Sports sat down with the Innovator of Violence himself to get his thoughts on the return of ECW, adding scars to Bubba Ray's head, and what it's like to wrestle for the sake of your legacy. IGN Sports: How does it feel to be back in the ring swinging the old stick around? Tommy Dreamer: Unbelievable. I worked a live event in Peoria and the people were awesome. It's just been an amazing roller coaster that is really going to culminate, [clears throat] sorry I was out all night partying with The Sandman, but this whole experience is going to culminate this Sunday at the Hammerstein Ballroom. IGN Sports: Since you brought it up, what is it like to party with The Sandman? Tommy Dreamer: In ECW, there were a ton of guys who could non-stop party. From Balls Mahoney to Axl Rotten…Sandman is probably the most notable one, though. The guy who can out-drink anybody in the world is Spike Dudley with Nunzio right behind him. We all got together last night after Smackdown, and we all had a really good time hanging out with each other. IGN Sports: At the end of Raw the other night, you looked at Paul E., and you guys both had such genuine smiles on your faces. Did you ever think the day would come where the two of you would be in the ring again and ECW would be back in the spotlight? Tommy Dreamer: No. When we went out of business, that was it. It's great because we get to have this closure in our life. In my life, my world was totally at a loss, I had to totally change my lifestyle because my whole life was about ECW. There was nothing more than ECW. I was married to it. It was my life. I was left devastated. And to come back now, to have the opportunity to be me and the person I was and still am inside, it's just an amazing and surreal moment. It kind of put the great stamp of approval in my mind and in a lot of the guy's minds and in the fans minds…if you look at a lot of the towns where Eric Bischoff has been talking smack about ECW, they weren't ECW towns. We were in St. Louis, Missouri where we did two shows, Kansas City where we did one show. Most people associate ECW with New York and Philadelphia, but the way the fans have reacted, it puts that stamp of approval that we were full blown and nation-wide. St. Louis was sold out to the rafters and they were going nuts for us. To me, that proves to me that if ECW was done right, it could've been in those big arenas. IGN Sports: What was it about ECW that you think resonated with the fans to the degree where, before you guys officially showed back up, they were still chanting ECW years after it went under? Tommy Dreamer: The memorable storylines. Watching TV today, you forget what's going on or who was just champion or who was aligned with who. In ECW we had long, long storylines. Hell, I couldn't beat Raven for three years. You watched characters develop and mature each and every week. It was a soap opera. You saw Beulah McGillicutty get her neck broken…she never came back. You saw Tommy Dreamer upset about not having a girl for so long. You saw Rob Van Dam morph from a guy who was an amazing wrestler with no personality to a guy who became Mr. Pay-Per-View, the whole f****** show, all that stuff. You could feel the hatred The Dudleyz had in the crowd. It was a different time. We were so close and connected to our fans. This pay-per-view would not have happened if it wasn't for our fans. Everyone can attribute the show to the WWE for making this pay-per-view happen, and yes, WWE sees that they can make money and they can make the show happen. But if that DVD did not do as well as it did, this show would never have happened. I pitched the idea for an ECW return, so did Bubba Ray, so did Rob Van Dam. Then after the success of the DVD, Rob went to them again and told them to look at the numbers, that they should do this. And that's where we're at. IGN Sports: Do you think if this pay-per-view sells that this will mark the beginning stages of a bigger ECW comeback? Tommy Dreamer: It's one step at a time. If this thing bombs, and I don't think that it will, then this is a one time thing. But if this thing does more buys than Wrestlemania, then Vince McMahon is going to see the money in ECW, then who the hell knows. IGN Sports: Are you in shape to make another run if this is the beginning stages of a new ECW? Tommy Dreamer: I'm only 34. My ass is still big, but it's not as big. As long as I fall on either my head or my ass I'm fine. Right now, I'm ready to go in the ring all the time. I'm in the ring a lot anyway with OVW. It's a different style in ECW. We were weekend warriors. We did it on Fridays, Saturdays, and some Sundays, and we had all week to rest up. The only problem would be if I still had to have a real job and come into the office. It might not look good if I hand someone a fax and it has blood dripping on it, because that's how it used to be back in the day of ECW. IGN Sports: Fans used to hand you all kinds of weapons when you'd head to the ring. What were some of the craziest things people gave you to use on your opponent? Tommy Dreamer: I was actually handed a switch blade one time which I then used on Raven to slice open his forehead. I was handed dildos, boat oars, stuff wrapped in barbed wire, cheese graters, a carton of eggs, food which I would usually eat before I used it, tobacco spit, soda…the fans were such a big part of the show. We used to fight in the crowds and people would see the guys really beating the hell out of each other. If you look at Bubba Ray Dudley's head, he has scars all over the back of his head. I'm best friends with him, and two of those scars are mine. We were kind of stupid back then, but those were like badges of honor. When I would get whipped into the guard rail, my goal was to break steel with my body. I broke my neck and my back for this company, and I would still go out and wrestle, and I would do it for free. The fans knew this. We never lied to our fans. How can you not feel bad for a guy who is trying to live his dream. He's doing it banged up, but he's still going out there and working. Nowadays, you've got guys in other sports making millions of dollars and they're sitting out forever over the littlest things. I had three concussions in a week. Again, I know there are a lot of other guys in ECW who did this as well. Mikey Whipwreck, Spike Dudley, you name it, we all went through this. And this show coming up on Sunday, it's going to be amazing and special, not only for the fans, but for the boys in the back. It's a way to say thank you to the fans. IGN Sports: It's you and Sandman versus Bubba and D-Von Dudley. Are you looking forward to maybe adding a scar to the back of Bubba's head? Tommy Dreamer: [laughs] We used to go out there knowing that my friend is going to hit me as hard as he could with that chair. He was going to try and break that chair over my head and I would do the same. That's how we do it, and that's how we're going to roll again on Sunday. I don't care what happens to me on Monday. If I'm banged up, it doesn't matter. It's all about your legacy. I cannot say that I had a great career in the WWE as a wrestler. I did not like drinking toilet water or doing all of that stuff, but you do as you're told, especially because you have a family to support. This is about your legacy and your heritage. I think a perfect example is Emmitt Smith. On the Dallas Cowboys, he had the Super Bowls, he led the league in rushing, he was MVP of the league, and he was highly respected in the NFL. Then he went to Arizona, and he didn't do that well for whatever reason, and I'm not going to get into all of that. But Emmitt Smith isn't remembered for his time with the Arizona Cardinals, he'll forever be a Dallas Cowboy. And that's Tommy Dreamer. IGN Sports: Besides your own match, what other matches are you most looking forward to this Sunday? Tommy Dreamer: I'm going to sit back and be a fan again. And I am a huge fan. Tommy Dreamer is a shoot, it's not a work. I went to all of the WWE shows back in the day. I went once a month to Madison Square Garden. This is all I ever wanted to do with my life. I had such a good time at Raw, just for the fact of seeing everybody and being a part of that atmosphere, but that Raw was one hell of a show. With John Cena coming over, it was an amazing atmosphere, and we're going to top that on Sunday. What matches am I looking forward to? Every single one. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero, two of the best going at it. It doesn't get any better when it comes to pure wrestling. Lance Storm and Chris Jericho, they had their first match together, and this is going to be Lance Storm's last match. They were former tag team partners, and I'm really looking forward to that one. Rey Mysterio versus Psychosis. The world knows who Rey Mysterio is, and Psychosis had a nice run in WCW, but if it wasn't for ECW, Rey Mysterio would not be in WWE because luchadore wrestling was not around. That match is going to be amazing. The three-way dance with Super Crazy, Tajiri, and Nunzio, known as Little Guido in ECW. That match alone might be worth the price of admission. But there are going to be some other matches, some other surprises as well. Those are four amazing wrestling matches, and while me and Sandman might not be the best wrestlers, that match will probably be one of the most violent matches out there. IGN Sports: It's funny how you talk about Monday's show as a fan, because watching on TV, from the moment Cena came out, to Christian's rant, to the ending with the ECW brawl, I can't remember a crowd going that nuts on Raw since the Attitude era. Tommy Dreamer: Dude, they were on their feet. They never sat down. We used to do that in ECW all the time where fans were on their feet the entire show. Now, fans are accustomed to, okay, we have a wrestling match, we know when to sit down. We hear pyro, we know we want to stand. The pyro ends, we want to sit down. On Monday, the fans stood and were rumbling the entire time. What you saw on TV did not even exemplify what was going on in that building. The place was rumbling, the floor was rumbling. I hate coming into the office right now because the adrenaline rush I just had, unless I put a couple of staples into my forehead right now, I'm not going to feel anything like that. When we went down to that ring, the place erupted. And you're right, it was like the Attitude era, and that's what we used to do at every ECW live event. Fans would go out and go nuts every show. And to be out on a grand stage in WWE and to see that reaction, it was awesome. My voice is shot from screaming. TV doesn't even do it justice. That's why it's so special to go to the live event. There will be things that happen at this ECW event that won't be on the pay-per-view, won't be on the DVD. But to experience it live, to know you were there, that's such a special feeling. I was there when Jimmy Snuka jumped off of the steel cage onto Don Muraco. So was Mick Foley, so was Bubba Ray Dudley. None of us knew each other back in the day, but the atmosphere was amazing. All of that combined, it's a rush to see these shows live. IGN Sports: ECW led to the Attitude era, which was probably the second biggest era in wrestling behind the Hogan era. And now, the way the crowd has been going crazy, the way wrestling seems to be building back up its fan base through the younger stars, do you see the reemergence of ECW as something that can help usher in the next great era in the sport? Tommy Dreamer: I wish it was. Again, I just want to get through Sunday. I've learned that if you never have any expectations, that you can never get hurt. When ECW went out of business, my heart was broken, and I never want to feel that way again. No one has told me that they are bringing ECW back. If they said they were going to bring back ECW next Tuesday, then next Tuesday hits and they decide not to bring it back, I don't want to get that excited again. I can't let myself go through that again. I'm crazy enough without all of that stuff. It's just one day at a time. Sunday is going to be an amazing show. It's not going to be anything like any WWE show that's ever been out there. This is our Wrestlemania. It's a way for the wrestlers, the guys who broke their necks, bled, sweat, cried, got drunk, and partied each and every day when we were in business to say thank you to the fans, to say thank you to the WWE for letting this happen. It's going to be something special.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Survivor Series is a "major" PPV? No. They just have both rosters on it. Uh, no...there's two major PPVs. Rumble and Mania. So, that means that the 4 major PPVs are Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series.
