The Dames 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Dames - Lynn's still under contract to TNA. He's doing backstage work as an agent. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's interesting. All I ever heard was that he was constantly trashing the company in interviews for quite a while. Dames

GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 http://robvandam.com/index.shtml From RVD...... JUNE 8 -- Here's what happened. I said "Have you ever thought of doing an ECW pay per view?" He said "No, I've never thought about that," and gave me his ear. I told Vince "Dude, it would be huge! Just the guys that were actually in ECW, wrestling totally ECW style for one night!” “We're the toughest guys you have in your locker room, you don't need to worry about anyone getting hurt. We don't need storylines. You don't even have to turn all the lights on in the building, it's not about that. Just one night only. All ECW!" Vince told me he liked my idea. I'm not going to tell you exactly what he said because, come on, don't you think this is sticking my head out enough for you? Paul Heyman calls later and tells me that Vince in VERY interested. "Holy Shit" I thought. This could become a reality. Next, I gave the boss man a list of every ECW alumni that was currently on his roster, and started asking all my former ECW peers what they thought about the idea. Not everybody believed it would really happen but, as the excitement arose, I knew in my heart this could be one of the biggest pay per views of all year. ECW! ECW! ECW! During interviews, I'm asked what I think about Shane Douglas doing an "ECW " show before ours. I think it's great. The ECW spirit lives in a lot of us, and should be represented for us ECW wrestlers, for the fans, and the whole f'n industry. June 12th is the date. ECW “One Night Stand” is going to be historical. You fans made the ECW dvd sales shoot through the roof, and that opened a lot of avenues. Fans tell me they are afraid of what WWE is going to do with ECW. They tell me they don't want to see the Raw and Smackdown guys at the pay per view. I know, everybody, I know. They don't deserve the credit for drawing this pay per view's success and it sucks that they are even going to be part of a show that they had nothing to do with. Had I not taken a minute off for my knee, I would've fought like hell to prevent this. Nonetheless, we all know what the excitement is about. Truth be told, those wrestlers are thankful that we brought forth the hardcore matches and the tables, ladders and chairs kind of matches. They will be, even if they keep it quiet in their minds, along with all of us, cheering ECW! ECW! ECW! A family reunion and a hardcore demonstration of the truly-missed, best showcasing of the most extreme athletes ever. I can't fucking wait! ECW! ECW! ECW! GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ng/11854487.htm Heyman's ECW: Must see PPV BY SCOTT FISHMAN Miami Herald Writer After months of planning, speculation and anticipation, Extreme Championship Wrestling's One Night Stand pay-per-view is on the horizon. The seven years of blood, sweat, tears and more blood will reemerge among the capacity crowd Sunday, June 12 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The man leading the charge is its general Paul Heyman, who plans on delivering a fan-pleasing, quality product -- symbolizing ECW. ''This show means a lot of things to a lot of people,'' said Heyman. ``Old ECW fans can expect to have a real emotional outpouring. I don't mean standing on top of your chair and chanting E-C-W. There is going to be a lot of tears. We're going to move them to tears. Some of the things I want to say and the things Rob Van Dam wants to say, and I know some of the moments that we have planned are complete surprises to even people here at WWE. It's really a cool thing. ``People, who were not ECW fans back then and are new ECW fans, I think we're going to give them a show that is totally different from what their anticipating ECW to be. New fans will probably think that's the barbed wire promotion, but I think they're going to see a lot more than just that.'' The outspoken promoter believes the show will present an accurate portrait of a company that revolutionized many aspects of pro wrestling. ''All these matches represent a different style from the past 15 years,'' said Heyman. ``Lance Storm and Chris Jericho is a Calgary match, both students of Stu Hart, and we had that style in ECW. We have Rey Mysterio and Psychosis which is going to be a lucha cruiserweight style match. ``Benoit and Guerrero is a Japanese style match. They're not going have a WWE style match. They're going to implore the style that made them popular in ECW. ``The Dudleyz versus Dreamer and Sandman is a weapons style match with the chairs, the barbed wire and all the insanity involved. We have the three-way dance match with Guido, Tajiri and Super Crazy which was a style that became popular in ECW and is unique to ECW. It incorporates the cruiserweight style, the lucha style and the Americanized style. ``There are so many different styles converging in one night. This is why we arranged for these specific matches because I want to break the terrible perception that this is a violent promotion. I mean we have a lot of violence in it, and our violence is more realistic than what the other guys are capable of doing. Look at Led Zeppelin. They didn't just do hard rock. They did Stairway to Heaven, and they didn't just do Stairway to Heaven. They did really hard #@$ songs.'' The involvement of WWE bred talent like Kurt Angle and John Bradshaw Layfield is the target of much criticism. However, Heyman feels this will add a unique and in many ways necessary element to the show. ''It will help because it was the way it was designed,'' said Heyman. 'It can't just be a nostalgia show. You have to have some current events involved. If it is just a look back with, `Hey here is this guy five years later,' or, 'Here is Balls and Axl. Remember them.' At least now there is a current storyline going into the show. There is a new rivalry in ECW versus the Crusaders. It's something new, something different, something fresh. ``It's not going to affect the integrity of the actual matches that are taking place. It's actually a match within itself. You're going to see Rey versus Psychosis. You're going to see Sabu, but we're not going to tell you how you'll see him. It's not going to be affected by the Crusaders. There are other matches on this show that are just as important as the advertised ones. Obviously you know we're going to get it on with these guys. We're going to fight it out, but we're not telling you when or how. ``We are telling you that you are going to see this inter-promotional battle go down. Both Raw and SmackDown!, which you only get to see four times a year, but there's never interaction except for WrestleMania. That kind of makes this really special.'' The One Night Stand PPV is not the only show in town. Not far from NYC in South Philadelphia, inaugural ECW champ Shane Douglas and Jeremy Borash of NWA/TNA run Hardcore Homecoming on Friday, June 10 from the Viking Hall, formerly the ECW Arena. Although it's the same weekend, only a short distance away and using some of the same talent, Heyman wishes them nothing but success. ''I hope he does phenomenal,'' said Heyman. ``Did Paul McCartney ever hope that Beatlemania didn't do well? His show is really not ECW. You can't do real ECW without Rob Van Dam or Taz or the Dudleyz or Tommy Dreamer. Do I hope it bombs? Absolutely not. I hope he does great, and he makes a million dollars. It would be a testament to the popularity and the impact that we had on these fans. ``It's a smart business move by Shane and Jeremy Borash because they're certainly not getting any momentum in TNA. It's not like Shane didn't try this before. He tried it with MECW. It failed. He tried it with MLW. It failed. He tried it with XPW. It failed. ``All these ECW wannabe promotions failed because they are not authentic. Shane has two choices this Friday. He surely doesn't have three. One, present an authentic ECW style show, and he's going to have a thriving business that he can do repeat business with or two, let down the audience. Then he has a one night gig on his hands. ``If he gives them what they want and exceeds their expectations, he's going to have repeat business and loyal customers. He's going to be able to take this on the road. If he fails these people on Friday, he's done. I hope it's the first one for the record. I never want to see an ECW fan walk into an environment where they want that experience and they get let down. It smears the legacy of ECW.'' Douglas's choice of the Viking Hall makes no difference to Heyman. He feels the former ECW Arena is different now from when it housed Cactus Jack and Sabu or Dean Malenko and Eddy Guerrero. ''It's not the same building,'' said Heyman. ``It's one of the main reasons we chose to go to the Hammerstein instead of going back to the arena. There was consideration at first, but it's not the Arena anymore. In New York there was the Polo Grounds which was a legendary venue in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Now it's not. You can tear down those condos and put back up the Polo Grounds, but it won't be the same.'' While Heyman's expectations for the show are high, he doesn't believe it should become a full-time deal. ''I hope it's not going to be a promotion,'' said Heyman. ``I was very outspoken about that, whether the corporate structure likes it or not. I don't think it should be done on a consistent basis. It's a different environment today. It won't be true to what it was. This could be a once-a-year thing or a twice-a-year thing. ``It can be an annual tour of six hot cities for us if you do New York, Philly, Chicago, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles one year. Then next year you do Buffalo, Tampa, Kansas City, Milwaukee and two other towns, sure. I think this could be a five or six-city stop and a pay-per-view. I don't think it should be more than that because I think it will tarnish the legacy of ECW.'' Much like the fans, Heyman awaits anxiously for the event - even more so the reaction and emotional feedback it will conjure. ''There are four moments on this show that are absolute surprises,'' said Heyman. ``Only the participants in that individual particular scenario know, but they don't know the other ones. Those four are going to drop people to their knees. There's an old expression, `We'll sell you the seat, but you'll only need the edge of it.' ``The Sabu moment is just blow away, and there are a couple surprises that are just so cool. I'm tearing up just thinking how cool they are going to be, and what it's going to mean to the audience. ``I'm looking very much forward to Van Dam's interview because it's the first time in five years he gets to speak from the heart and without a scripted interview and time frame. It's going to be, `Here's a microphone. Go ahead and talk to your people.' ``I don't know what I'm going to say. Everyone's asked me. I'm not thinking about it because I want to feel it when I get out there. It's just going to be real. Everything on this show, every match has a designated moment to where the audience just sits there saying, 'Holy cow this is ECW!''' It is the innate nature of a promoter to truly believe or at least pretend to believe in what they are selling the audience. Though for Heyman, it is more than this. ''I don't mean it as hype,'' said Heyman. 'I'm not trying to sell pay-per-views. I can endorse a Raw show or a SmackDown! show or do a media tour. I can say, `It will be a lovely show, and we look forward to coming to Miami.' Bull#@$%. I will not prostitute this brand. I will walk away. 'At 7:59 p.m. and 59 seconds, if they came up to me and said, `Hey, one change. We'd like to do it this way.' I'd walk out that back door. Anybody that knows me and my history knows that as a fact. I will not prostitute this brand. This show is authentic.'' The main event of the show is The Sandman and Dreamer against the Dudleyz. Four ECW icons mixing it up the only way they know how. As for Heyman, it is the perfect note to close the night. ''It's a very stacked show,'' said Heyman. ``We're going to have all the different styles. You build and build to the bloodshed and the violence. That is going to have the bloodshed and the violence in it. These other matches are designed not to capitalize on that facet of our reputation. 'The Japanese style, the Calgary style, the lucha style, the three-way dance style, we build to it and build to it. Just when we have the audience saying, `Man, I want to see some blood and guts and barbed wire and tables,' here come the Dudleyz. It's a reallywell-paced show and a true ECW experience.'' From the man who is known for delivering the goods, Heyman is pulling no punches in making the show a must-see event. So much in fact, he feels the company who is sponsoring it will have to take notice and rethink its own strategy. ''There is an old expression in show business,'' said Heyman. ``Judy Garland believe it or not was famous for saying this to people when she was doing a USO Tour or something. Any highly competitive performer would do his or her set and go through the curtain with a person standing there, they would look and say, `follow that $#@$%.' ``I think WWE has two things on its hands. They are going to be shocked at the success of this show. Think of it this way, ringside tickets to Summerslam are $300. Ringside tickets to our show are $400. That says something. I think they are going to look at themselves on Monday morning and say, `What do we do now? How do we follow that?''' • ECW's One Night Stand pay-per-view is 7:45 p.m. Sunday, June 12 a Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Heyman wrote at least two drafts for the PPV, but what makes it onto the screen from those drafts depends on what is allowed to make it by Vince and Kevin Dunn, who are the two other parties who have had a lot of influence on this. While Heyman and Dreamer have had a part in writing this, to say they are the only ones writing it would be totally inaccurate.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 They will do the classic impromtu match after the promo? They could open the show with a Joel Gertner interviewing RVD then have the "invaders" do the run-in then have Tazz, Spike Dudley, Al Snow, Sabu, Balls Mahoney, Danny Doring & Roadkill, CW Anderson, Rhyno, Axl Rotten. Justin Credible, Kid Kash, Mikey Whipwreck, make the save then have Paul E declare it to be a tag match of WWE vs ECW with Nova pinning Maven with his "new" move. Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 More ECW news from Meltzer WWE sent BSkyB a statement today giving them advanced warning that Sunday's One Night Stand PPV may need to be heavily edited for future broadcast due to planned content of the show. The show will probably first air largely unedited live, because it starts in the U.K. at 1 a.m. The planned Eliminators reunion after nearly eight years has fallen through due to Perry Saturn apparently having a broken neck. The Hardcorehomecoming web site said he was in a halo, which would mean he is suffering from a serious broken neck. Apparently this injury is not recent, but he never informed them he couldn't work until today, somehow hoping for a miraculous recovery.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 If this show is as good as I think it's going to be now, I'd rather pay $34.95 to watch the show live and NEVER be able to watch it again, instead of paying $15 and having to wait weeks before I can see it. This is a show that you've just got to watch live as far as I'm concerned.
