YOUR Quarterly ESPN Sucks Thread

If they wanted to do a game show, BRING BACK TWO MINUTE DRILL!!!! Seriously, Kenny Mayne needs more screen time, not less. I still have the PC version and still play it from time to time.

The PC version was crap. I played it and got the same questions the third time through.

It's sad how far Cheap Seats has fallen in quality as their second season went along. The live audience was completely unnecessary and the shows just became near unwatchable as they went on. The writing took a complete nosedive.

I don't think I've enjoyed a show that ESPN has done as much as I enjoyed Cheap Seats, specifically the "Putt-putt" episode that was on last night. That might be their JTS moment, however.

When I first saw Cheap Seats with the studio audience I thought maybe it was just some joke they were doing for one episode. What makes having the auidence so bad is that they have them forcibly laugh at every single joke.

And the butchering of ESPN Classic has pissed me off to no end. Replacing showing classic games, you know the original point of the channel, with those "Who's #1?" and "You Can't Blame..." What in the hell is classic about these shows? What classic games they do show now are 90% of the time done in the condensed "Drive Thru" format. What's so idiotic about the format is they show basically every key play to the game at the beginning and then show each scoring play that is coming up before each commercial break.

Guest Agent of Oblivion

I like him, he's surly.

I'd rail the redhead chick that always does little bits on location at the empty venue.

If ESPN DID give a fuck about quality programming, they would have told the NFL to go fuck itself when they created a stink about how "Playmakers" exposed the dark side of the NFL.

That said, "Tilt" bombed because it was a shit show. And that the execs should also note how MTV has become one of the most reviled networks on Cable after they abandoned music for shitty TV shows and Reality TV.

Really the only "reality" things that ESPN does that I've always enjoyed are "The Life" and "The Season".

Tilt was fucking terrible. I've liked Michael Madsen's work for some time now, but not even he could save a shit show like that.

ESPN is doing a special on the Nathans Famous Hotdog contest and has stretched this freak show out to do bios on the competitors.....one of them is "Eater X" a man that wears Ultimate Warrior face paint!

I would also like to draw attention to the fact that ESPN finds one star or good story and hops on it like no other.

Like Danica Patrick. Yeah I know she's a chick doing Indy but I mean it's not like she's the best and all they do is cover her like crazy and go on about how great she is and everytime they do an Indy story they won't shut up about her. Even if she finishes last!

It's not like Patrick hasn't justified her constant coverage. She's an attractive young woman in a industry where that doesnt exist and has consistantly performed solidly. She's going to win races, the only question is how long ESPN can keep pushing her until the inevitable happens and how long will the mainstream care?

First win? big story, second win? good story that shows she wasn't a fluke but win three the casual espn viewers will go "ok. we get it".

Sadly, I actually watched part of the Indy500 when she was winning the race. That's what they're trying to do, get people like my girlfriend to watch to support the females.

Yesterday as I watched Around the Horn and PTI they both talked about Kenny Roger's press conference and said he didn't say anything about his plans for the all-star game. During the commercial breaks during this whole hour there are sportscenter commercials that said on Sportscenter Kenny Rogers breaks his silence and reveals his all-star plans. So I'm thinking ok maybe he just did that after they had taped PTI and ATH, even though that seemed wierd since when there is breaking sports news PTI usually goes live for it. So PTI ends, sportscenter starts, and what do I see? The Kenny Rogers press conference, and some text at the bottom of the screen saying something like "Kenny Rogers press conferece: Does not discuss all-star game". Lying cocksuckers.

Even before ESPN2 unveils Stephen A.Smith's Quite Frankly talk show on Monday, it planned for a spinoff in October. That's Quite Frankly: Afterthoughts, a show inspired by Oprah Winfrey's After the Show, where we'll get to see Smith chat with his Quite Frankly studio audiences.

That's what ESPN's new Media Packaging Unit is trying to create.

Says Dan Weinberg, a unit senior coordinating producer, "We're charged with mining our existing assets to unearth new possibilities."

The group's efforts included creating U.S. Open golf highlight footage for distribution to cell phones as well as showing Sunday's weigh-in from the ESPN-owned Bassmaster Classic on espn.com's broadband service. The group helped create X Center, which follows BassCenter as the second SportsCenter spinoff and will premiere Thursday on ESPN2 to run during the ESPN-owned X Games.

The X Center spinoff will suggest the X Games have a lighter side: Musician G Love, Weinberg says, will be "a sort of social reporter" and the program will show a rider trying to set a distance record while he does a back flip on his BMX bike.

Smith's Quite Frankly also is part of an effort to give ESPN2, a spinoff itself, more of a separate identity. The next step is ESPN2's ESPNHollywood, premiering Aug. 15. The show will be a sort of Entertainment Tonight geared largely to men, suggests Michael Antinoro of ESPN Original Entertainment, which oversees Hollywood: "It could speculate on the most eligible bachelors in sports and who they're dating."

TV sports isn't just about showing games.

Make it stop daddy, make it stop!!!!!
