The Raw Rating

Recommended Posts

Last night's Raw drew a 3.9 rating, down slightly from last week's 4.0. The wedding segment at the top of the second hour drew the largest rating by far - a 4.5 - even more than the overrun, which drew only a 4.1.

Edge and Lita's Wedding was awesome cuz it was 2 heels. Easily the best wedding they have ever done.

The wedding was the best one they've ever done, short, to the point, and filled with gold.

When Snitsky said "It's called...IT WASN'T MY FAULT" and they both looked back like "That makes sense" I was fiercely chuckling. When it became obvious the Matt thing was a joke, you couldn't help but laugh. When Kane popped his head through the ring, I soiled myself the unintentional comedy was so rich.

THAT's how you do a wedding. Matt showing up would of been nice but I don't think it would of done much to keep viewers for the rest of the show.

I think the preacher in itself was just gold with his reactions to the slut comment and the insult at Snitsky.

It was perfect camp comedy. If you're so bent out of shape about it you have serious issues because Matt Hardy is far from a sympathy figure now.

Maybe WWE thinks that the Matt speculation will make people care about the Edge/Kane match at the PPV (I predict apathy, but I could be wrong).

And I have to agree that this whole angle has become unintentionally funny: the "acting" is terrible, the storyline is awful, the matches probably won't be any good, and the guy the fans really want isn't even with the company. It definitely has the "Big Show coffin surfing" factor.

The thing is JMA, it isn't unintentional. Do you really think that the writers wouldn't think that Edge and Lita acting like they have been wouldn't be funny? I think everything that is humourous about this angle is suppose to be.

Playing Matt's music the way they did got a Pavlovian response from me, I'll admit. But when it was a hoax I got kinda pissed. As far as weddings go, it's not even LITA's best wedding. The Kane/Lita wedding was funny as shit. Besides here I don't recall anyone even saying "I do."

I don't think getting married really fits Edge and Lita as this storyline goes. It makes them too...respectable? Lita should just ditch Kane (or Matt if you look at it realistically) and then shack up with Edge. I mean how is Lita as much of a slut if she marries Edge?

Great, next: Viscera and Lillian wedding! Guys, seriously, when they advertise weddings, DON'T WATCH. Otherwise they'd keep throwing wedding angles at the viewers because it pops the ratings.

Wedding angles are awesome. Don't hate.

These are the same people who gave us Katie Vick and Al Wilson (both of which I thankfully missed). Sometimes I wonder if they're even coherant, let alone understand humor. In any case, creating an angle "so-bad-that-it's-good" won't draw any money, despite the few chuckles the IWC gets from it.

Right... god knows there's a place in WRESTLING for wedding angles. Yup. I mean, why watch The Bachelor or Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire when you got WWE, right?!

BAH! Give me the Kane-Lita wedding over this one. Kane in a white tux, midget ring bearer and flower girl, a minister that was more convincing at being VERY uncomfortable, and don't forget the coup-de-gras:

Don't forget the mini-orchestra playing Kane's music.

Just like the orginal kane-lita-baby-weddign angle became a joke unto itself.

That was probably the funniest segment this year, and honestly, I have to think back to some of the Kane/Shane stuff to find something on a wrestling show I laughed at as much as this "wedding." Snitsky was money with the poem and sleeveless tux. The Matt Hardy music was funny as hell, especially when the preacher looked confused and Edge said "Sorry, I couldn't resist... I'll explain it at the reception." JR bashing it the whole way through was some of the funniest commentary he's ever done. Add to that, it had the second best ending to any WWE wedding (behind Billy/Chuck, though technically that was a civil union, or whatever buzzword they used to avoid "gay wedding"):

Preacher: And by the power vested in me by our lord God, and his son...

*Kane appears under the ring*

... Jesus Christ!

JR: JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

In short, I'm glad this got a high rating, and hopefully we'll get more comedic gold with Edge, Kane, and Snitsky. And let's be honest, this wedding was a million times more entertaining than any match those three could have together.

that killed me, and Kane's big ugly head poping out of the ring had me laughing my ass off.

I could do without ever seeing another wedding gimmick, but this one was at least entertaining.
