RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I bought Season 3 on DVD today after having purchased Season 2 a few weeks ago. As such, I am OFFICIALLY addicted to the show. The first DVD I could justify as a "try-out" or "experimentation", but now I have a collection which means a certain amount of dedication and admiration so I guess it can be declared as a fixation. Station. Creation. Imagination. Obliteration. Party People all across the Nation rise up in Celebration. Anyways, I love this show. Like, Jesus Christ this show is good. The feeling that I had with Firefly I have with this (the HAPPY~! Yelling Outloud For No Reason Other Than To Express Your Emotions kinda feeling) but now I can enjoy the show beyond 13 episodes! This show keeps me up at night. And I tend to work early. So I wake up grumpy. But I can't stop watching. I need the fix before I go to bed, and I have been known (like today) to watch 3 or 4 episodes in one sitting. I looked at the clock at it said 10:00pm and I was like "What the fuck happened to the day?". But did I REALLY care? NO~! Cause, to me, there was nothing in this world I could have done more productive than watch this show. I have a problem. This thread is where I share it with the world. Hopefully, there are more fans of the show who will post up (down?) and where we can have some sort of group therapy and perhaps rid ourselves of this awful, beautiful, wicked, evil, wonderful thing from the bastards at the WB. As of right now: Poor Bunny = greatest two words ever.
dubq 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I actually loved it, but lost interest after Season 3 ended. Things just started getting way too "grown up" for me. =\
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I have been a fan of this wonderful show since it's inception and have followed it ever since. I brought all three DVD's the day of their release and I try to catch the ABC Family reruns as often as I can. It's clearly the best network show today and a beautiful example of quality writing, excellent characters and brilliant performences.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I fear that when Rory goes to College it will lose its charm, but that's why I'm saving Season 1 for last (just incase I grow tired of the show in Season 4, I can go back to when it was all about Small Town Quirk.) bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 Rudo, do you watch the reruns on YTV at 12? I always catch the last 10 minutes before What I Like About You is on. It's okay, but those girls talk way too much.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I love this show. I'm not going to buy the DVDs, though, as the reruns keep me happy.

Which reflects on how life is. However it's not like they abandon Stars Hollow.

It's okay, but those girls talk way too much. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The reruns on YTV and W got me hooked on it. I heard good things about it, mostly from Herc over at AICN, and I slowly got adjusted to it*. For me, it's a matter of finding the right episodes and watching it all the way through to the end credits. I found those episodes**, did some research (they were all in Season 2) and since I prefer watching shows on DVD than on TV, I stopped watching the TV shows and just bought the DVD's (fucking Best Buy raised the price 5 dollars between the time I first checked out the price to the time I made the purchase). * It takes some adjusting to. The dialogue, in particular. The first thing I noticed about the show was that nobody talks like that in real life, but once you get used to it, the dialogue becomes part of the charm. And they reference it in the show, which makes it ok (the scene where Dean talks to Max about the Girls' bits - "don't laugh, play along in character" ). **The episode where they have termites and the episode where Lukes uncle died in particular got me hooked. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I love this show. I'm not going to buy the DVDs, though, as the reruns keep me happy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> GAH! The DVD's need more extra features! COMMENTARY!!!! Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel on commentary would be soooo good. KIRK! on commentary, in or out of character, would be worth the price of the set alone. LUKE! on commentary... I'm getting far too excited... The great thing about the DVD's (next to my ability to watch 3 episodes in a row which TV does not afford) is that it is easier to watch the arcs unfold. Which is one thing that really surprised me about the show - IT HAS ARCS! Really fucking big arcs too that span the whole season. It's not as woven together or as prominent as, say, The Shield is but it's certainly still there and is just as catchy.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted July 1, 2005 There is no excuse for not having a Kirk's view of the gilmore girls on commentary.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 Oh man, when Kirk asked Lorelai out, just before he did it I was thinking "wouldn't it be hilarious if it turned out that Kirk loved Lorelai right in the midst of all her guy troubles?" and guess what? IT WAS! KIRK~! And how did they manage to make SALLY STRUTHERS into a good character?! "It's a SEXY Squash!"

dubq 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 Every character is just great on this show. Not a single character makes me go "oh not that one..." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So true. Actually, the only one that does that to me now is Rory's current boyfriend in new episodes. Too much of a pretty boy doofus. EDIT: we really need spoiler tags back... RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 Lane and her mother bother me. But that's about it. Dean I am rather neutral about. Jess... I was surprised at how much I enjoyed his character, because I wasn't expecting to.

I don't think we'll see much of him on season six as I think it's time for Rory to go single for awhile. I do think Dean returns to the fold again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dean was my favourite as far as love interests for Rory goes.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 And you don't have to worry about spoilers here, unless they are so totally major and will ruin everything. I'm the kinda guy who reads the end of books before I begin, so it's not a big deal. I almost have to say my favourite character is Lorelai. Ignoring the fact that Lauren Graham is absolutely stunning, she's such a fun and warm character who goes through a million emotions per show. But if I were to ignore the fact that Graham is absolutely stunning, then Luke would rule all. Or Kirk.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted July 1, 2005 I really wish tags worked because there's so much from season 5 to dicuss and I'm not sure if RRR has seen it and I would hate to spoil 2 whole seasons for him.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 They don't work anymore? Spoiler tags still work. Alexis Bleidel is really shy and very soft-spoken, so I don't think she'd be good on commentary.

Season four should be on DVD by the time the new season starts. Season Three was released not to long ago, in early may.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 They don't work anymore? Spoiler tags still work. Alexis Bleidel is really shy and very soft-spoken, so I don't think she'd be good on commentary. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, it depends. With the right person leading, most people can be good on commentary because they will be prompted to say something (through a question) rather than volunteering information. Ah, might as well do it now... Alexis Bledel confuses me. Not just the fact that she's latina, which made my brain bleed, but that she's not really hot so much as she is cute. There's something odd about her and I can't quite put my finger on it. She has to have the most amusing facial expressions on television and I'm not sure if it's "acting" or if it's just her natural delivery. She also delivers some killer lines, like the aforementioned "poor bunny" because her voice is so cutish and makes a lot of funny things sound hilarious. Is that her actual voice? Season 3 had a noticable change in her, but I don't know what it is. She became 30% skankier, and I don't know if she just grew or wore more make up but she looks different. And she's wearing lots of dresses now. No complaints there.

Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 This thread makes me feel so much better about myself. I have secretly loved this show for some time now. It's so... girly? No.. yeah. I don't care, I love it. I almost have to say my favourite character is Lorelai. Ignoring the fact that Lauren Graham is absolutely stunning, she's such a fun and warm character who goes through a million emotions per show. But if I were to ignore the fact that Graham is absolutely stunning, then Luke would rule all. Or Kirk. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2005 The thing is, I don't see it as a very "girly" show. Lots of the stuff they go through are universal, and they're kinda anti-girly in a lot of ways or at least very tongue-in-cheek about it. It's not so much "boy problems" as it is "relationship problems", or "mother/father/daughter issues" as it is "parent/child issues". To be honest, I don't find many female characters on television to be very amusing, but those two I find especially enjoyable. You don't really find, quick witted and quirky women on television that have a certain emotional depth to them.
