TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2005 I know several knowledgeable Yankee fans who would vote for the best players regardless of affiliation (as long as they are not Red Sox of course). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's how I do it. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2005 4 Bosox are starting while just one Yankee is, so my 1 vote for each Yank didn't really do much. By the way: NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter is one step closer to his seventh All-Star Game, as the Yankees shortstop holds the lead in the Ameriquest 2005 All-Star Final Vote, which will decide the final spot on the American League's All-Star Game roster. Jeter holds the lead over Chicago's Scott Podsednik, who currently stands second among the five nominees. Minnesota's Torii Hunter ranks third, while Jeter's teammate, Hideki Matsui, is fourth. Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford rounds out the voting. "Everyone wants the chance to go to the All-Star Game," Jeter said. "Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying." More than 4 million votes have already been cast at MLB.com, as the vote enters its second half on Tuesday. Last season, more than 10 million votes were cast as Matsui and Philadelphia's Bobby Abreu won the final spots on the AL and National League teams, respectively. "It's always an honor to be chosen," Matsui said through his interpreter. Jeter is hitting .308 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs, and his 66 runs scored lead the AL. He also ranks among the league leaders in multi-hit games (31), on-base percentage (.395), hits (100) and walks (40). Matsui joked that Jeter is so deserving of the final spot that he's been casting votes for the shortstop over the past two days. Said Matsui: "I think there are a lot of votes that I put in." Now in its fourth year, the Ameriquest 2005 All-Star Final Vote gives baseball fans around the world the opportunity to select the final player on each All-Star team. Balloting began immediately following Sunday's Major League All-Star Selection Show and will continue until 8 p.m. ET Wednesday. The winners will be announced on ESPN and MLB.com shortly thereafter. There are two ways for fans to vote for the 2005 All-Star Final Vote -- online at MLB.com or from their cell phones. Fans can simply text the word "VOTE" to 69652 (MYMLB) and be instantly registered to receive the Final Vote ballots. Then, for just 99 cents per ballot, they'll have the freedom to vote from wherever they are. Fans can get the mobile ballot now. The fun doesn't end there, however. Having already decided the starters and final position player on each team, fans once again will have the opportunity to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player presented by Chevrolet at the 76th All-Star Game via the Ameriquest 2005 All-Star Game MVP Vote on MLB.com. The All-Star Game, to be held at Detroit's Comerica Park on Tuesday, July 12 at 8 p.m. ET, will be televised nationally by FOX Sports and around the world by Major League Baseball International. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive, national radio coverage, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage and MLB Radio will provide exclusive play-by-play coverage of the game on the Internet. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2005 Cesar Isturis was place on the 15 Day DL leaving another roster spot open in the NL. I'd guess Morgan Ensberg will get it.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2005 I really think that Brady Clark shouldve at least been an option for the last-chance vote... And I hate the Yankees but Jeter clearly is an All-Star.

Bored 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 Scott Podsednik and Roy Oswalt have won the 32nd man spots. Oswalt's been arguably the best pitcher not named Willis or Clemens in the N.L. so good pick there. But a guy with a .693 OPS making the All-Star team is a joke. How was Podsednik even on the ballot? I don't care how many stolen bases he has, he's not that good. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 Well, so much for my 20-odd votes for Jeter this afternoon.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 It's my fault. I should have voted for Jeter more than once. Or Matsui. With is recent tear, he should have been selected by the players.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 With Podsednick getting so much publicity for the slot, once he passed Jeter he pretty much had it. Outside of the Yankees website, you wouldn't even know about the 32nd ballot around here.
Guest Mosaicv2 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 I happy PODsendik got the final all-star draw since it seems he's stolen 100-million bases this half of the season.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 Im happy for Scotty Po (being a former Brewer, and the reason we got Carlos) and hate the Yankees...but no Jeter in the ASG is fucking dumb.

Bored 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 And somewhere, Joe Buck buries his head in Tim McCarver's lap and weeps. While Tim dreams of his head being in Derek's lap. In other news Travis Hafner's OPS is over 1.000 now. Yup not good enough for the 32nd man ballot.

Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 Pedro pulls out and his replaced by Billy Wagner. Jimmy Rollins replaces Cesar Izturis for whatever reason. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From what I heard on the radio, since Izturis was a player's selection rather than a fan or manager vote, they had to replace him with whoever finished behind him in player voting rather than say, someone more deserving *cough MorganEnsbergcough*. That doesn't explain why the players' selections are protected like this but fan selections aren't, but oh well.

So I'm assuming Rollins was next in line at the SS position. In that case Bill Hall of the Brewers is having a much better season than Jimmy Rollisn. Doesn't always play SS, but he can if they would need him.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2005 I wonder who gets the start, though, Ramirez or Ensberg. I think it's LaRussa's decision, but since Ramirez was second in voting, I think he should get the nod. No bias or anything.
