Smackdown VS Raw 2006

Conway better be in there.

"Look at me..."

I concur.

Ah I miss the days of revenge/wm 2000/no mercy when they had pretty much every wrestler on the roster in the game

Yeah, but OMG BIG BLOCKY BODIES!?~

Isn't it much better now that we have somewhat accurate depictions of Randy Orton's nipples, Bob Holly's buckteeth and Eddy's bacne?

Because that's what I buy a wrestling game for... man nipples.

Fufill Your Fantasy match:

Why?

Remember how Legends of wrestling came out, then we got Legends in the WWE games?

I guess it's like that. WWE /THQ  s Rumble Roses. Although, RR, with the mud matches, suggestive moves, galleries, entrances owns WWE for shameless fanservice. They're going to have to keep it at a "T" level.

Dude, you get to jump off a bed!

Watch it have the same physics as the table, except it might "bounce" when you do a move onto it and not break.

Shit like this is a waste of space. Who the fuck even plays these RETARDED Diva matches/modes? Seriously. Are they trying to sell to over-sexed frat boys, or fat dorks who never get laid?

Really a minor issue, but next game I really wish they'd fix the problem with title belts and CAWs. It irks the hell outta me to be playing as the World Champ with a CAW and having this wide ass belt just floating around his waist. I wish they'd give you specific entrance animations to choose from for when your wrestler has a belt, so you could choose to carry it over your shoulder, in your hand or whatever. And if you choose to wear it around your waist, they should at least have a better dectection system so that the belts fit to your waist a lot better. As is, it looks goofy as hell.

Remember, they make their money selling that garbage to the average wrestling fan/teenager going through puberty/fat dork who never gets laid. As long as they want that, those useless modes will be put into the games. Iits like their version of DOA.

If they were going to do something like that, I would rather see a Diva storyline. Or better yet, some female Legends (Moolah in her prime, Wendi Richter, Madusa/Alundra Blayze, Jumping Bomb Angels.....hell, put Bull Nakano in there)

You're right... God help me, I loved those girls.

Although when the femme Japanese wrestlers hit WCW, some of those matches were downright brutal from a physicality standpoint.. ouch.

yes I forgot about Leilani Kai, but sheesh, she wasn't all that as a wrestler. She got over because she cheated a lot.

SmackDown 2006: Sleepers and Playing Possum

New details on a pair of original mechanics with all-new videos included.

by Jeremy Dunham

August 19, 2005 - When we had the chance to sample WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 a few weeks back, Creative Manager Cory Ledesma hinted at two brand new game mechanics that have been incorporated into every match type: Sleeper Holds and Playing Possum. Designed to give matches a more realistic feel and to deepen the amount of potential player strategy, the two new mini-games look like they could be pretty cool -- and we have videos of each of them to show you why we think so.

Below, we've included descriptions of how the two new game mechanics work as described by the production team so that excited fans out there know exactly what to expect. Thanks to THQ for hooking us up.

The Sleeper Hold System

The Sleeper Hold System is one of the many new additions to WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006's list of new gameplay features. Designed to further recreate the drama of actual WWE programming and mimic the in-ring behavior of WWE Superstars, the new Sleeper Hold System attempts to faithfully capture the setting and situation of a wrestler held captive by his opponent in a sleeper move.

Everything from the referee's rising of the captive Superstar's arm to check his consciousness, to the eventual three-count KO has been replicated by Yuke's. Keep in mind, though, that the new Sleeper Hold submission isn't a customizable grapple similar to the many selectable attacks in the game's Create-A-Move feature; every Superstar will have the ability to perform the new modified Sleeper Hold as easily as they would performing a pin. Essentially, once a player has inflicted enough damage upon an opponent's head, the new Sleeper Hold submission becomes available for use.

For example, if the player-controlled Superstar has a regular Sleeper Hold submission already assigned tohis or her move set, once the proper amount of damage has been inflicted on the opponent, the player's regular Sleeper Hold submission will be converted into the new Sleeper Hold submission. Once locked into the hold, the CPU or human opponent will have three attempts to escape the submission hold or perform a reversal in a desperate attempt to turn the tables on the attacker. If the player should fail to escape from the hold before the referee reaches a final count of three, the match will be lost by KO.

For those WWE Superstars and Created Superstars who don't have Sleeper Hold submission assigned in their move sets, however, players will have the ability to initiate the new Sleeper Hold System on their opponents by situating prone opponents into sitting positions and performing down grapples once the appropriate amount of damage has been dealt.

Playing Possum

As true WWE fans are aware, brute strength alone will only carry a player so far inside the ring. The true greats in WWE history demonstrated equal amounts of athletic in-ring ability as well as a sharp, keen intellect. As such, another new addition to the SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 feature set is the ability to "play possum" or feign an injured state while lying prone on the mat, allowing players to take their opponents by surprise and secure a quick pin fall.

Think back to WrestleMania 21 where a seemingly incapacitated Kurt Angle played possum and was able to lure Shawn Michaels into a false sense of security before quickly springing into action and applying his signature ankle lock on HBK. This type of action will give players an idea of what they can expect from the new "Playing Possum" feature.

By successfully filling the momentum meter during a match, players will be presented with two options: attempt to perform a finishing move on an opponent or store a Superstar's WWE finishing move icon and use it at a later time during the match. Storing a finishing move icon will grant players the ability to perform a "Possum Pin" on their opponents. While in possession of a stored finishing move and lying prone on the mat as a result of an attack from an opponent, a "Possum Pin" can be performed by holding the Circle button and correctly countering any attempted grapple or strike from the opponent. If successfully performed, a player's downed, seemingly injured Superstar will quickly leap into action and roll the unassuming opponent into a much stronger and harder to kick out of pin hold

So, if you use the Masterlock, do they only get one arm drop like on TV? :D

I hope it doesn't suck like the chop system.

SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 Rosters and venues Confirmed(ign.com)

THQ has also confirmed the locations of its 19 different venues. Though it's still possible that a 20th bonus arena may still be included, 19 of them are definitely making the cut. What are they you ask? Well in no particular order they are: SmackDown, RAW, Velocity, HEAT, SummerSlam, Unforgiven, No Mercy, Survivor Series, Armageddon, Royal Rumble, No Way Out, WrestleMania 21, Backlash, Judgment Day, Vengeance, The Great American Bash, New Year's Revolution, ECW One Night Stand, and Taboo Tuesday. Sound good? Cool.

This year's character collection is one of the biggest yet seen in a wrestling game thus far -- with 50 different superstars and divas in all, and an undisclosed amount of legends to be revealed later. If that sounds like a lot, that's because it is.

Not terrible, far better than last year IMO. Be good to have Paul London in there (hopefully all his moves are included) and STEVIE RICHARDS!

Plus neat to have Charlie Haas still in, probably fit in well with the Indy CAWs I'm sure to make.

Only sad at the lack of Simon Dean, as I hope they would have included the Curb Stomp as one of his moves.

That's awesome, but with Joy and Jindrak and Haas and others being in the game, I assume Conway is still french and teaming with Grenier. Either way, about time Conway (and Grenier, to a lesser extent... hate the guy in the ring but his numerous tag title reigns kinda warratned a video game roster spot) made it in.

Also, One Night Stand's venue being there is all kinds of awesome.

Has anyone else noticed that this is the first time Victoria's not in a Smackdown game since she debuted on HCTP?

I guess because WWE didn't do much with her for most of this year up until her heel turn in the summer, and now she's once again nowhere to be seen on TV after her brief feud with Stacy Keibler/Super Stacy.

THQ should have removed the released wrestlers/divas from July, though, because they've been gone for a while now.

Haas & Jindrak ? Hassan & Daivari? Two guys who are fired, and two others who aren't even on TV anymore. Yet, no MNM, not that I care that much about them, but come on. Can we at least get a roster that MAKES SENSE?

EDIT: Also, as an aside, and I know it's a small detail but it matters.. did it bother anyone else [in HCTP at least] that wrestlers who had "outfits" during the ring entrance couldn't wear title belts? Ie: Cena, Flair, DiBiase, etc. It'd be nice if they gave an alternate "on the shoulder" animation for the title holders who had this sort of entrance attire enabled. There's nothing more stupid to have a champion come out and not have his belt. Reminds me of the old days of NO BELTS AT ALL, heh..

"Chris Jericho"

Great, he's in still.

He should definitely be in the PSP version, but probably by the time the PS2 version is out he'll be back in WWE anyway, so hope he isn't deleted.

I guess the roster additions/subtractions cutoff date may be done, though.

I wonder at what point does the developers decide on a character list, set the build after that roster, then keep working with what they have.

I'd set this roster in mid-April, which is still before MNM and before the big release.

It's weird that they can't just substitute Haas and Jindrak with two other workers so that the game storylines won't be interrupted (which is the only excuse they could have). I mean, No Mercy did it with Stevie Richards quite easily, even if it didn't look right.
