Who can say that Burnett won't falter as well? How many starters obtained at the deadline lately have really made a huge difference to their teams?

I mean, Jeff Suppan anyone? There's the whole "moving from the NL to AL" part as well.

What? I don't get you.

You said that the Sox beating on Redding and May doesn't effect the Yankees' chances at the beginning. It does if they can't find SOMEONE who can pitch well enough to keep the Yankees in the game.

All i'm saying is, they aren't going to pitch again, and by the time they come back to that spot of the rotation, we'll probably have a solid enough pitcher by then to keep us in the game. The Red Sox haven't proved anything by beating on spot starters.

Brown is going to be healthy soon. As soon as next week.

And we tremble at your pitching staff. Isn't Arroyo your 2nd or 3rd best starter? And isn't your clo..well you don't have a closer.

With the way you guys are speaking, its as if the Red Sox are up 10 games. With our broken down pitching staff (that will be addressed by the deadline, and some starters returning), we're still only 2 1/2 behind.

Sorry but all the talk about how much the Yankee's suck doesn't do much considering they're only 2 1/5 back. We've had the same problems all year, if we're that close I really don't see why we should get sad now.

Some of you just loathe optimism don't you?

The Yankees message board on ESPN.com is always good for a chuckle after games like these. Actually, so is the Red Sox one after tough losses. Especially the guy that said the Red Sox were just padding their stats. What, you want them to bunt for the rest of the game?

Mets lose to a bad hop.

God am I pissed.

I blame the Mets offense more, who did NOTHING of Smoltz after the Wright HR. The Mets can't go on long runs because they just can't score enough. With Hudson and Hampton going the next 2 days, I don't see any changes

Agreed. The Mets have been one of the least clutch teams in the Majors this year, and tonight was no different.

Then again, the Braves missed out on quite a few chances to score as well. The game came down to which team got the unlucky break first.

I just caught the last inning of the Milwaukee/Washington game. That's the first time in my 10 or so years of watching baseball that I have seen a game end with a run being driven in via a balk, or as the announcers called it, a "balk-off" (walk-off balk).

I hate that mentality, if you score 9 runs in the first 3 innings you should play hard enough to end up with 27.

Congrats Palmiero. I remember all the talk when he was chasing 500 about how it shouldn't be enough for the HOF, and now I don't think you could find one person who'd argue against him being in it.

So after Rich Harden's near perfect game last night, Barry Zito has a no-hitter thru six tonight.

Even on the West Coast, with three different Fox Sports channels, I have to wait until ESPN brings the coverage of said game.

What the fuck.
