Gert T Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Hey I am off this summer and wanting to read some good books. Right now I am reading The Inferno by Dante. What are some other good books do you recommend? I am open to any genre. Thanks.
SuperJerk Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 The best novels I ever read were "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving and "The Catcher in the Rye" by JD Salinger. I aslo recently read "A Hope in the Unseen" by Ron Suskind, which is a true story.
gWIL Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 A Certain Chemistry by Mil Millington is great.
SuperJerk Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 What is "A Hope in the Unseen" about? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It follows an inner city kid as he tries to get into an Ivy League school, then through his freshman year. Kind of shows all the odds that are against him, and how hard it is for him to fit in.
KingPK Posted July 16, 2005 Report Posted July 16, 2005 Right now I'm reading Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas by Nicholas Pileggi, the book the movie Casino was based on. I've been reading a bunch of Tom Clancy novels lately, and I needed a break. I'm about halfway through, and it's pretty good.
Guest Frank_Nabbit Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Appocalypse Funny page turner.... disappointing ending but a real solid book. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. Easy, accessible, fun, and brilliant.
bobobrazil1984 Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 I just finished an awesome book "A Game of Thrones" by George R. R. Martin, probably one of the best, and freshest "fantasy" novels i've ever read. It's more king arthur-ish or shakespeare-ish than lotr-ish though.
snuffbox Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Jack Kerouac - On The Road Ken Kesey - Sometimes A Great Notion Hunter S Thompson - Rum Diary John Steinbeck - Cannery Row Tom Robbins - Another Roadside Attraction
Guest xSarahx Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 I'm a big fan of John Steinbeck. Cannery Row, The Pearl, Tortilla Flat, and Of Mice And Men are all good choices. Also the original Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is really good. The symbolism is pretty deep.
