They fight over EVERYTHING. It's amazing, on par or maybe better than their Pillman match. That's a big thing to say, but it is. I don't want to say too much, but they basically do everything they both have in their arsenal.

It has two commercial breaks in it though, which makes it hard to judge.

I edited the topic title just a little so people don't complain about spoilers. Not that anyone doubter the match wasn't great or anything. I'm going to pop in the Pillman show and watch their match before Velocity (or mabye afterwards so I don't set expectations too high).

It's an awesome match, Regals best WWE match. I'm half way through a second time, there's not as many highspots though, but much more technical wrestling and fighting over every move, like every move could be their last.

Here's a report from the Observer. Does anyone know the exact time the match got in the arena?

Commercials.

-I've been waiting for this next match all week. I remember hearing about the

original match at the Brian Pillman memorial show and searching hard for a tape

of the show (since released on the Chris Benoit Hard Knocks DVD), and not being

disappointed when it arrived. I watched it again this morning so it was fresh

in my head for a comparison.

MATCH 3: William Regal vs. Chris Benoit

Collar and elbow tie up to begin. Josh mentions the Pillman show. Regal applies

a side headlock, but Benoit powers out of it. Benoit applies a wristlock. Regal

gets a couple of snapmares, but Benoit still hangs on to the wristlock. Regal

with an armdrag now, but Benoit still hangs on shifting to a hammerlock. Regal

now reverses into a front facelock, but Benoit takes him down...

Commercials.

We rejoin with Regal overpowering Benoit with a test of strength. Benoit with a

lovely bridge, that withstands some knees from Regal, before rising back to his

feet and overpowering Regal. Regal now bridges and tries to apply a headscissors

from the ground before nipping up. Still in the test of strength, Benoit

headbutts Regal busting him open. Benoit with a monkey flip, which finally

breaks the test of strength, and he hammers away on the ground. Benoit with a

series of knees to the head. Regal back on his feet, but Benoit takes him down

again with a dragon suplex. He sends Regal into the corner and then follows up

with a chop. Benoit with some more knees to the head. He attempts a German

suplex...Regal with an elbow...but Benoit finally hits it. Both men are down.

Back up, Regal with the knee trembler and a cover for 2. Regal with another

cover for 2. And another 2. A further 2. Yet another 2. Finally, Regal gives up

on the idea of pinning him and tries to apply the Regal stretch, but Benoit

reaches the ropes. Regal now with a chicken wing. He releases the hold, and now

applies a surfboard, which he modifies into a dragon sleeper. Benoit elbows him

to break the hold...

Commercials.

We rejoin the match with Regal connecting with a knee to the head of Benoit and

then schoolboying him for 2. Regal now with a backslide for 2. Benoit now

applies the sharpshooter. Regal inches towards the ropes, but Benoit drags him

back to the centre of the ring. Regal again motions towards the ropes and makes

it this time. Regal now delivers some more knees to the head of Benoit and

covers for 2. Regal applies a neck vice and then clubs Benoit with a forearm.

Regal now with a double underhook...Benoit blocking the suplex...Benoit with a

back bodydrop, but Regal hangs on to the double underhook. Regal with the

butterfly suplex for a 2 count. Again, he makes numerous pin attempts (four in

total), but can't put Benoit away. Regal with a standing dropkick for 2. Regal

sets Benoit up for a tombstone piledriver...Benoit rolls through it and has

Regal set up for a piledriver. Benoit opts instead for a shoulderbreaker.

Benoit applies the crippler crossface and Regal taps out. Well, that was quite

the match. I'd put it pretty much on a par with their match at the Pillman show

as they pretty much copied most of the spots and sequences from that match. Of

course, the commercial breaks hurt it as well. Easily the best match I've

recapped on Velocity (beating out Akio and London) and one of the best matches

on free TV this year.

Winner: Chris Benoit (11:58 - edited)

Sounds like the beginning matwork of their 95 New Japan match. In that they just fight for everything on the mat and it's amazing to watch.

Does anyone get the live feed without commercials? On DVD hopefully?

Wait...I've got it!

The Conquistadores could run in and beat up Simon Dean during a match...

..except the Conquistadores are actually Stevie and Blue Meanie...

...and so they all feud in their secret identities while being friends in their BWO identies!
