Best Pay Site for Songs

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if anyone could break down what is the best pay site for music. I was told that with Napster you can not convert the mp3's on to cds. Not interested in Itunes because I dont have an IPod. What others one are out there. Heard of WINMX, but not too sure what they are all about. Any info or help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have Windows Media Player 10, you can download music through MSNMusic, I use that service.

DO NOT, I repeat, do not buy songs off of buymusic.com. I have bought songs off them but they never downloaded on to my cpmputer and they just suck.

Even though you can find some better pricing structures than iTunes (Yahoo's launched or launching something that's like a dime less), the thing has become a bit of a cultural icon and because of that, there's now a ton of exclusive content on it that's actually quite listenable. Plus the library has exploded with a ton of labels and bands, although the bands that are slow to embrace technology (the Beatles), are still supporting the record industry's message of buying CDs (Madonna, the Beatles again), or are involved in legal fights with Apple Computer (the Beatles again) are noticeably absent.

a friend of a friend of my sister in laws step cousin told me try the following:

Blubster, Kazza Lite K++, or Overnet, but hey, what do I or they know???

I prefer iTunes, the one click solution is nice, however its not so pretty when the bill comes in. I have heard ok remarks about Napsters service, if you wanted to load up on music cheaply.

My first reaction is: Why pay for music?

But I'm curious. I'll be the first to admit I'm behind on the whole 'legal aspect' of downloading music?

For instance, if you use LimeWire, is it:

1) Illegal to even DL one song?

2) Illegal to burn CDs for your own personal use?

3) Illegal to burn CDs to play for friends (i.e. parties) ?

Could someone explain the total legality issues concerning DLing music? Much appreciated. I see tons of commercials with "Win a free download!" and such, and figured they were cracking down, severely.
