I started a new job about 3 weeks ago but me and my friends are planning a camping trip upstate from next Sunday to Monday. Monday I have work and my co-worker informed me that I can't call in sick until I've worked there at least three months. My friend suggests that I tell them I have a funeral to go to but I don't know if that will work considering I don't like lying about things like thatand I'm afraid I'll get caught inside the lie.

So what do you think I should do? I really wanna go on this trip considering ALL my friends will be there and this could be the best thing to happen all summer.

If your "sick", your "sick". There shouldn't be silly three month rules about that sort of thing.

Show up the day before pretending to be sick. I'm talking faking coughing, headaches, dizziness, the whole shebang. Hell, bring fake vomit in and pretend to puke to sell the "illness". Make sure your boss sees you being "sick". If he has any heart, he'll tell you to go home and take a day off to heal up. Even if he doesn't, he'll figure you're still sick when you don't show up the next day.

My brother did this once (minus the fake puke) and went even further to sell the illusion. When he went back to work, he continued to act a little sick as if he was still getting over it, and even brought in "medication from his doctor" (I think it was just candy) that he took three times daily for the next couple of days.

That's just way too much effort.

I do not think they could legally prevent you from calling in sick.

I agree. It's likely more of a ploy to see who follows the company line and who doesnt.

Ok, you dial the number of your employer.

You say "Yeah, I'm not coming in today. Don't feel good."

Then you go in the next day, and they'll do whatever they're going to do.

I know this sounds crazy, but why didn't you tell your potential new employer that you had vacation time planned when you went in for the second interview / signing papers thing. Then you're covered because you know what way the wind blows there.

If he is a jerk and says "No, no way, too bad." you know this isn't someone who is going to care if you are sick or not, you'll get crap no matter what.

If he is a normal boss and says, "Well, if you had it planned..." you know this is a guy you can tell that you need a day here and there off. Just don;t abuse it.

The reason why they say no time off for a set period of time is to make sure that you aren't some fuck that is taking time off every other week and will actually be there to, you know... work.
